You're environment in flying your quad is really a new world for fpv. Wish this could be made as a simulator map too. Keep flying bro. I was thinking if you could fly also so in the ship as it moves?
Hey Patrix, i realy enjoy your videos. I bought myself a Mini 3 this week and i am offshore a few weeks each year.. so i can't stop thinking about checking our equipment in the water new year. Do you got any advice how to start/land in a secure way? Sure fpv is a different thing, but maybe you also tryed this with a non fpv drone? Keep up the nice videos :)
Glad you like them! I have some tips for you 🙂. When your mini3 takes of from a moving ship it will get a GPS fix and it will keep the drone on that fixed point relative to the Earth. That means if the ship is moving forward, your drone will move backwards as soon as it takes off ( actually it's not moving back, it just stays in place where it takes off) . I'm pretty sure you've seen quite a few videos of people taking off from yachts and speed boats then the drone just lifts off a bit, moves backward and hits something then backflips straight to the water. Here's my tip. On land, practice taking off and immediately moving forward to simulate the moving ship. Try it first on the ground then when you get comfortable maybe you could try to take off from a moving vehicle. Start slow, the driver needs to keep the speed steady. When you get confident, increase the speed in steps. Practice both take off and landing. Keep in mind you also need to move the drone out of the ship after take off. Practice also landing on the moving vehicle. The key is to be able to disarm the drone as soon as it lands. Build up your confidence before attempting this on a moving ship. Take note of the relative wind speed and relative wind direction. Make sure your drone speed capacity is well above those speeds. Keep in mind also that wind speed could pick up abruptly any time, you never know. That's all I could think of now. If I could think of something more, I'll add theme here. Good luck! 🙂

Hi! That's me anticipating a "fly away". I know my drone does not have enough thrust to push my hand even at full throttle, that is if I am prepared for it. You can see my right hand gripping the drone. Moving it causes the flight controller to react, and, if for any reason the quad should go haywire, this movement should be more than enough for it to go haywire NOW rather than LATER. When that happens, this sequence will commence: 1. My right hand will push the quad against the ground. This action also negates roll and pitch movements and therefore keeps my hand away from the propellers. 2. My left thumb has already been pushing the throttle stick to minimum to prevent it from going up during the process 3. My left index finger which never left the arm switch will now proceed to disarm the quad 4. If disarming does not stop the motors for some reason, my left hand will let go of the remote and proceed to unplug the LiPo battery from the quad, I have built all my drones in a way that I can disconnect the XT60 with one hand and the other hand pushing the drone against the ground. ONLY after everything goes well will I proceed to do a hover test. I would even rock the quad left and right before the actual hover. Watch closely and observe what I am doing. IMHO, it is safer as compared to plugging an UNTESTED drone and directly hovering it then suddenly "oops, fly away" Anyway, please don't try to do this. It is dangerous, it requires a lot of focus and strength and it requires the pilot to be calm when the drone goes crazy. Thanks for watching and hopefully I have given you a clue in that regard 🙂
