Years ago I picked up a typebar , Sears Scholar II and that got me into the use of typewriters. It's a breakout item and seems very familiar. But now, I am like in the extreme, I like the manuals and the daisy wheels, but I never got into the electric typebars. I have three brands of daisy wheels, and a few manuals, but only Brother typebar machines.
Most of my first draft fiction manuscripts are typed on my electric typewriters (the IBM Personal Wheelwriter 2 by Lexmark) or an OLD manual Olympia portable.
I had two years of typing classes in high school. The second year we used electrics, had a room full of selectrics and a few typebar machines. I loved the Hermes 10.
Funny this showed up. I've was recently looking for a typewriter. I took college typing and used it in college, graduate school, and my work in the law. I used an electric Smith-Corona with the correcting tape and an IBM Selectric. Both were great typewriters. Now where to find a typewriter and support.
I learned in the sixties on an Underwood manual in school, of course. But a decade of professional typing in the seventies really spoiled me for little manual portables. I use a Selectric today, but also have that same Smith-Corona like that Singer, and it's an absolute joy to use.
What I appreciate most about old electrics with the manual carriage returns (my favorites) is they are great for journaling and letter writing. They are fast enough to follow your thoughts while still having a great vintage feel. I have a pink coronet and a smith-corona Electra 120 with a cursive font and they are perfect for longer writing sessions. I’d only buy 50s or 60s electrics. They started making them cheap and ugly by the 1970s.

I love the look of the Smith-Corona f5 series! Not exactly modern, but still very attractive, especially in that blueish hue! I did not take a typing class, but thanks to spending my career on a keyboard, I can still do 55+ WPM with an acceptable error rate, at least on a computer keyboard with the backspace. I'm ALMOST a touch typist, but not a "technically correct" touch typist.
Develop good touch-typing form through practice. Find an old typing instruction book, they are very useful. Also, there are old Navy typing instruction videos on UA-cam.
