as an x220 owner, don't get any of these. They are falling apart. Plastic cracks, keys fall off, a genuine parts are extremely expensive. I'm tired of fixing mine. As much as I love thinkpads let's be real, they don't last and upgradability is just an illusion.

what i dislike most about the CS09+ models through today is how short the LCDs are. after T60 and W700 until P70 and now P16, no ThinkPad has had an LCD taller than 15.4" which was about the same height as 4:3 14.1". Even then P70/P16 are barely taller than 15.4". if you notice with X220, T420, T520, the sizing up only makes the laptop wider with next to no gain in vertical space. This is stupid. I hate it. 16:9 was the worst form factor of laptops in the history of laptops, maybe ever. I thank God Almighty that 8:5 is back. but we're still shorter than 4:3 15.1".

Personally, I actually prefer widescreen displays to 4:3 displays. Perhaps its just due to what I grew up on, or the fact that most of my computer useage is simply content consumption, as I don't have any practical reason to own a ThinkPad besides autism. 16:10 is my favorite aspect ratio, with 16:9 being second, and 4:3 being last. I can appreciate 4:3, and for reading web-pages and text and stuff I can see the appeal. But for me the sacrifice in width isn't really worth it. Its personal preference though. On devices like my T520 I don't mind it being 16:9 really at all, but on devices like the T420 and X220 it is a bit bothersome, as they have sort of a vertically squished look to them, with stubby palmrests that have a too-steep curve at the end. The newer CS13 devices were a lot better in this regard as they moved the keyboard up higher closer to the back of the machine which helped a lot with this. That is also one of the reasons I prefer the T420s to the T420, as the keyboard is mounted closer towards the lid on the palmrest, which allows more palmrest space, and also provides a better look in general. That and the display being more centered in the bezel rather than top-biased like a T480 makes the T420s appear a lot more attractive proportionally to me.

@ i think t420 and t430 are so shit because they are the office gremlin tier laptop. i also loved my t430s when i had it, albeit i put t420 keyboard on it. It had nvs 5200m and i played bioshock infinite on it! also did the QHD upgrade and enjoyed it for school. When it died i transplanted the QHD to my T420 and made do with a GTX 960 egpu. But i do miss that T430s sometimes. Maybe ill get another sometime

@@iliketowncars I rather like my T430s. Its a nicely built device and good looking too. Really it fixes almost all my complaints with the T420/T430, though it does unfortunately still use the stupid hinges, but so do devices like the T60, so I'll give it a pass there. Battery life has never been much of a concern for me (I mostly use my devices plugged in), so I don't mind the sub-par runtime of the device, but I understand that many would. Even back when I was in high-school and I'd bring stuff like my T520 or T440p to class, almost always I was close enough to an outlet to just use it plugged in.
I dont think the T430 is a bad device, but it is sort of a lottery with them. I got lucky with mine and it has the better hinges and a Mitsubishi palmrest and display bezel. Quality wise it feels a lot better than my T420, which uses the shittier plastics and while it has the better hinges, they are kind of worn out. The T420 is also just flexier and has more hollow spots in it. I could imagine a worn out T430 with the crappy hinges and crappy plastics being a pretty miserable device.
