Ngl, I thought this video was years old. But seeing it so recent, brings a smile to see that old thinkpads are still making an impact today. Keep up the good work!
BTW the keyboard mod for the xx30 series works for all of them. I switched my x230t keyboard to the classic style, and with a little bit of extra software magic make it work perfectly.
The USB 3.0 ports in the W520 are the only instance of such specification in a second gen Core iX I've ever seen. Until now, I believed every chipset from that era was still stuck on darn slow USB 2.0
Yessssssss Great Video!!!! I own the following that i daily drive, Thinkpad X201, Thinkpad T500, T520, T430, T540p, and all run Linux!!!!!!! Thinkpad for LIfe!!, Greetings from Cape Town
I'm a Thinkpad T-series fanboy. My wife and I have T520 laptops in addition to our desktops. I even use a T420 with a large HDD stuffed into the DVD slot as a poor man's file server on our home network. The only changes I've made to the Thinkpads is replacing the HDD with an SSD. My first Thinkpad was a T61 the first that came with a wide screen display, sadly it finally died this year. I'm thinking about getting a T480 or T580 as our next laptop upgrade, but will likely stay on Win 10, but that is a different discussion.
I am currently only using a T430 with Windows 7/Arch. I will probably keyboard mod it since i once used a friend's t420 and fell in love with the keyboard. Anyways, it still holds up better than a macbook from that era
My T530 is a very nice computer. Big and heavy so I don't think it got moved much in its previous life. Core i7 and big 15" screen so it is a pleasure to use.
It saddens me that the time remaining of useful amazing Thinkpads is drawing to a close, if we can get Framework laptops into a Thinkpad Chassis I'd be happy.
hands down the best one for the cult mentality if you wanna call it that is the x220 it's perfect although the lack of libreboot support is a massive downside it's not entirely free in that sense
im curious, is the thinkpad disccord still a thing? i got a few thinkpads that id like to price check with the community, cuz they have been sitting for years

X220's USB3.0 is provided by a dedicated chip, not from the chipset, hence only the i7 model has them. I suspect that's the same for W520.

The X230 with the CD-ROM option so it can swap with extra battery pack, with X220's keyboard, IPS screen.
No external Antena? Are you even on the spectrum bro ( ´,_ゝ`)
Is the classic keyboard swap easy to do? I saw some videos in youtube. Thought we need to cut the plastics etc.

Any T440p's?
im curious, is the thinkpad disccord still a thing? i got a few thinkpads that id like to price check with the community, cuz they have been sitting for years
T430 modded gang!
t420 gang
T480
Run Linux on a w520....
I always thought the xx20 series was overrated. like either get a W500/T410/X201 or a T530/T430/X230, the T420,X220 is in such a weird place
the best of the cult is abandon the cult, the best for you, these old pos laptops are ready to be recycled
T480
