- THEO DE BLIC’S TUTORIAL: STEEP SPIRAL
The steep spiral is always hotly debated: dangerous or not? Fact is: it is a highly effective descent manoeuvre. No other technique allows such high sink rates as a proper steep spiral. But you also have to master it!
In this video, Theo de Blic demonstrates with an ION 6 what needs to be considered in order to fly a spiral safely - from the initiation to the sink rate control to the exit. And above all: which dangers to avoid.
Rating: HIGHLY WORTH WATCHING - best several times!
Hint: We recommend to practice spirals first over water during an SIV.

Thanks a lot 🫡
Thanks a lot, really really useful, well explained, well filmed and perfectly design of the whole tutorials. 👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻great!!
as always, perfectly explained Theo! Thank you!
Great explanation :) Thanks.
Best explication!!!! Thank you!!! mercy beaucoup
Thanks!
thx
Thanks for the detailed review. Do you have a video, where you make use of the steile spiral in a real thermal ?
In a thermal everything is the same the main difference is that the sink is reduced by the thermal's strength. But I don't have a video sorry
If I am in a twist and in a spiraly motion while confused about directions can I grab brake lines above the twist and do the messy "both brakes spiral exit" ?
Well this is a very bad situation to end up in. And chances are you can't brake it enough by grabbing and pullinb above the twist. But if you can this would do the job. Otherwise I really would say to pull the rescue in this situation
Hello i´m a beginner and fly a A glider (supair eona3) I learned that i hav a small contact on the outside in a nose spiral, dose that mather?
Hello,
It’s not a big problem to have a small contact but it’s better to be hands up because having a small contact does not slow down the spiral nor does it help exiting. And often people think this contact is enough to exit so they panic because it does not. So it’s better to be hands up and brake outside when you really want to exit or to control the speed of the spiral by controlling the rotation but just keeping a small contact is useless
