No nonsense valuable tips! Logic Pro X can do so many things that it’s easy to overlook some (or many) of its powerful functions. Thanks for your videos, it is inspiring and a time saver to watch your content... Subscribed!
Thanks Mike, great simple instructions as usual, never used this in LPX before, one of my students was looking for the workflow and I didn't know, so you have helped two of us!
I've been a die hard Digital Performer user for many years. However, I've really been enjoying the latest version of Logic lately. Thank you for your very informative videos.
I was on Cubase for eight years before I tried Logic and fell in love with the workflow. It completely suits me more than any other DAW I have a tried. :) Sincerely Mike
Hello David, I am not at my computer right now, but if I remember correctly I use the numpad (numbers to the right side of a full sized keyboard), and the numbers above the character keyboard as screensets. That way it is differentiated. Sincerely, Mike
While the Step Input window is in front/focused, it takes over the number keys above the QWERTY row. That's one of the fussier things about this input method: it relies on that window being in front. Click into a different window, and your number keys trigger screenshots again.
I'm glad you like it, btw my complete Logic Pro Quick Tips series will be available on my instagram (100+ videos planned already). You can follow me there if you like: instagram.com/mikaelbaggstrom
Awesome tutorial! I was waiting for something like this as a lot of tutorials don't show you this - and who would have thought Prince William knows Logic and can also do an excellent Checkov impression LOL - great work sir!
I have looked all over UA-cam for this tutorial for a long time! Thank you, so much! Now, can I move the cursor to any point in a measure to stack notes? For example, if I'm inputting a piano track, I'll need to emulate a piano being pedalled - So, I might have to enter the bass as a whole note, then come back on top of that and enter the arpeggios as less and less length values to fulfil the measure. Just the same way a live piano performance would sound. [help]
Very Useful tips and amazing Video .. I found this feature in logic accidentally .. you dont have to right click to create an empty region you simply select the midi track and open up the step input keyboard and as you input the notes a midi region will be created automatically .... keep up the amazing work !!
Hey Mike thank you so much for teaching us on how to use the logic, ect. Could you please show me on how to play a fast string runs in a logic. Thanks 🙏
Yooo Mikael, is there a way to adjust the sensitivity of MIDI keyboard input? Like my fingers would barely touch a note on the MIDI keyboard and it gets recorded... very very annoying issue.
Thank you Christopher, and I am glad you found my video helpful. I have decent piano skills myself but I still love using this feature because sometimes you want to play very fast patterns or perfect chord progressions etc. =) Sincerely, Mike
Thanks Leon! =) PS. You can Join my community for composers (100% free): forum.professionalcomposers.com/ There is a section to ask questions about Logic Pro X too.
Well I “Forest Gump-ed’ my way into this video during my search for mixing tricks and BOOM! WOW! I had no idea about this! I track bass guitar for people and wrote off the midi stuff years ago as a feature in logic outside of my field. Not now. Thanks to you! This opens up new avenues. Thanks, man! Liked&Subscribed.
Thank you Doug, it sure is an amazing feature...even for myself as a fairly decent keyboard player for things like arpeggios, fast rhythmic parts etc. =) Sincerely, Mike
By the way Mike I forgot to mention that I'll do my best to share your UA-cam channel link to those asking, "what learning videos do you recommend for LPX?" A SHOUT OUT TO EVERYONE IN HOPES THAT THEY WILL DO THE SAME AS WELL, BECAUSE IF IT WEREN'T FOR SOMEONE LIKE YOU MANY OF US LEARNING LPX WOULD BE IN A WORLD OF FRUSTRATION. 👍
That's amazing Robert, thank you so much!!! =) - And I understand completely. Logic is a deep software, very deep. As someone who started many years ago, I still learn new things every week. :P Many thanks for your support, Mike
Great question Giorgio! =) - I don't think it is possible, but I have not tried it personally. Very nice idea though! I am also hoping for some improvements in the step input mode. Sincerely, Mike
Dear Michael, great video, thanks. Can I have a question? I create Piano Scores in Logix and I meet an issue which stopped me completely: I would like to record hands separately and than create normal piano score containing both hands. So I record left hand, than I press record again and record the right one. in a score I can see all notes but unfortunately I cannot here the first recorded left hand any more. so I cannot hear both hands together. I tried to copy the instrument (piano) and I recorded hands as separate pianos, but than I cannot see both hand in one score. do you have any idea how can I records both hands separately, one after one (so I easier to create notes than writing them) and also to be able to hear them than after together? thank you for your help! Sincerely, Adam
ok solved!!! my mistake was not to creating a midi region first. so to do this we need to create a midi region, empty, than I can record hands one after one and also here them.
Thanks for the video! But unfortunately I have a problem, even in chord mode, I can only play one note at a time. It won't even jump to the next space, so that I could record the next note. It just changes the first note. How can I change that?
Haha, well I perhaps don't have that strong of a Swedish accent as most people living here, since I have been doing UA-cam and teaching courses in English for many years. =) Perhaps I show a really strong Swedish accent just for fun in a video some time lol. ;) Swedish greetings, Mike
Tutorial is superb! But... i dont like this approach to do things.. open one window ... than the other. than this than that.. Logic needs to be improoved a looooot!! its still to much of clicking and fighting through windows to get something done. I have found so many things that are symply not good reachable.. yes.. you can customize to some degree.. but still old Scool in lots of features...

Hi, can this method be used with the musical keypad/typing feature in Logic pro X as I don't own a real keyboard ?!
Sorry, but I do not understand how you entered the chords. Did you play them on your midi keyboard?
Hi! Is it possible to insert the notes via a MIDI keyboard while sticking to the velocity selected on the SI keyboard (p, mp, f, etc.)?
