"I don't feel comfortable embracing it [being called a hero] but I don't want to deny it. I don't want to diminish their thankful feeling toward me by telling them that they're wrong." What an amazing soul! I'm so glad this opportunity was captured and shared with us. The gratitude and respect is beautiful.
Oh but US Air tried to blame him for the damage done to the plane. Can you believe that? They hands down wanted to blame him for not trying to go to another airport. He would have crashed in mid Manhattan if he had tried.
@@GeorgetteB-p2n I mean, there has to be an investigation obviously if he could have made a runway and decided to put it down in the river then yes that is negligence. If you have two choices and you make the choice, that’s the riskier of the two just because you pull it off doesn’t mean it’s the right thing to do. Obviously, the investigation concluded that he was right .
That dude from first class who was terrified, you could see the gratitude he had for the cabin crew who stayed calm while he was frightened out of his mind, you cant fake that level of respect and affection he showed with that kiss on the cheek.
So true because many of the passengers from what i read were very young.A lot of them went on to be married and have children of their own. Some of the older passengers have grandchildren.Captain Sullenberger by doing what he did enabled them to still be here and experience these life events.
I love this, it's just simple and to the point. 60 minutes really still holding it together after all of these years. Can't believe they all made it -No less after 9/11-NYC needed this.
Honestly airline pilots and the crews should all be paid more. They have so much responsibility and lives in their hands and perform at a much higher level than most people will ever experience in their careers.
One of the most profound events in American History...It showed how we Americans, when presented with a situation which is life or death; We grit our teeth and get to work...As a USAF vet, I couldn't be prouder of Capt. Sully...
To see a room of that size FILLED with people from just ONE flight on a pretty typically sized airliner it really puts things in perspective what a huge lost this could’ve been 😯🙏🏾
Talk about emotional. How could anyone watch this without tearing up...such an amazing man and other worldly event that even Hollywood couldn't have come up with.
Could potentially be those families who weren't so lucky and it triggered negative thoughts. Doesn't mean they didn't appreciate this incredible feat of human instinct Vs a computer. Technology doesn't have instinctiveness
Can't imagine cold freezing water from the river good pilots glad all went okay in the end I hate to be in ice cold water god bless you all on that plane
I appreciate a lot Cp Sully but we should all know it was hard work humanly Including the Europeans That built The aeroplane but mainly let’s not forget that this was a miracle of God a miracle of God through Sully and rescuers
Still to this day I feel for the First officer and the crew.. Its always remembered as ''Sully the hero''.... what about the first officer and the cabin crew? They don't get any recognition. they also were part of that, that day.
@@alessandrovannini8989 yeah i agree i am syrian not even american or from the west but when i see a man that is brave and know what he is doing and so damn good at it i really have to respect such a man so much respect for captain sully
No doubt, Sully did a remarkable job and has proven to be a genuine hero. But, if I were in his shoes and pulled that feat off, I would have to admit I was saving my own arse too. It'd sound something like "I was riding the front of that F'n lawn dart and I certainly didn't want want to go through an inquiry about being the only survivor afterwards" 😂
January 15th, 2009 - Captain Sullenberger saved 155 people with his actions. On the same day, my wife's cousin's unborn child was miraculously healed both of a Dandy-Walker cyst in his brain while being born severely pre-mature without complications. I am thankful to Jesus Christ for the two miracles that were done that day.
With no disrespect to Sully has anyone else noticed with all these documentaries & at the end of the Sully movie how Sully quotes the same saying like he has memorised it. I have noticed this several times....guess the man ran out of new things to say as this event went on & on. He will always remain an honourable person nonetheless.
Capt. "Sully embrace there gratefulness if it would've been another crew, they might not have made it. as i said on the other page these people wouldn't have had a chance to hold their loved one they wouldn't of had the chance to go before the altar and Glorify God for giving you the skills and focus to save them by determination and working in perfect sink with your copilot
Sully is a warrior, who is as graceful as 2 ships passing in the night. I am SO happy for all the familes that they have all thier loved ones becuase of this General and his solidiers.
Of course he was trying to save his own life as well, BUT- he would not leave that aircraft until he was absolutely sure everyone else had gotten off. He went through the whole sinking plane twice, just to make sure.
Oh but US Air was trying to BLAME him for the damage done to the PLANE! I could not believe that they had ANY issue with saving every single life on that plane. They didn't want their INSURANCE to go up. US Air should have been totally ashamed of themselves for that.
It’s so funny to see that we fail to see that this was God who saved every body through Sully, and he was just a good pilot and did his job well but the miracle was the one that saved everyone
Kokolores! Es gibt nur 4 Piloten, die eine erfolgreiche Wasserlandung hinbekommen haben. Alle anderen, die es versucht haben sind kläglich gescheitert.
He destroyed a Plane by landing in the water and he's a Hero!? He's alive. The crews alive. Support pets and passengers are to. A little Wet but alive. Ah-Life!
It is unfortunate that Chesley Sullenberger sees himself as a hero in that he can stand in front of some of those who survived the ordeal and listen them say how great he is. Chesley Sullenberger is NOT a hero and should not see himself as one -- neither should anyone else. A hero is someone who knowingly risks his own life to save the life of another. Sullenberger did not risk his life for another. He was trying to save himself as well as his passengers. Thankfully, the bridges and other potentially destructive or catastrophic structures “cooperated” in that the aircraft missed them. It may be true that Sullenberger was able to do something that helped him miss such structures, but I suspect he was just lucky (or blessed). Sullenberger is not a hero, but he is unquestionably a great pilot. For that and that alone he should be honored.
Seriously? You have to think about all the things that happened in that 208 seconds. He had to think what was best for aircraft and passengers and had to quickly act, he took there lives into consideration first as a good pilot would. If he had thought about saving his own life than perhaps some of those passengers wouldn’t be alive. I think he can consider himself as a hero.
Lucky? You my friend are lost... lucky that birds took out both engines, the only 2 engines that aircraft had and You call that lucky? Saying that the bridges missed him? Honestly what are you talking about.. What he and the first officer had to deal with was a very rare unforeseen event that even training can’t get you ready for. You don’t know the first thing about being a pilot and the workload we have to deal with, what he and his first officer did was not only heroic but also a result of good judgement and piloting skills. That entire event could have easily went sideways if it wasn’t for the men behind those controls.
He is alive and just on the basis of that you r saying he was lucky..Thats people thought if anyone life is saved than they are lucky and if they died in crash then pilot mistake… You r just saying that pilot don’t have any roles in saving peoples life??? And he had risks his life too coz he was also not sure that landing in river will be safer and save everyone including him..He took risk of his life too to land there…. And the passengers whose life are saved are calling him hero than you dont have right to call them wrong..Thats their choice to make someone their hero or role model..

Eloquent as could be...
Such an eloquent and humble response.
Saved not just the passengers but the countless generations that will follow

That's a lot to carry. A lot of emotions to carry with you. I hope Sully and Jeff are doing well these days.
What a Legendary Pilot and Crew. To perform under that immense pressure is special. Well done.
It's gotta be so gratifying for him every time he sees the passengers
Super remembered this I was students and in hospital canteen when we are so glued watching the news very dramatic rescue..
We talk in this country about sports figures and even entertainers being heroes. No, this is an example of what a REAL hero looks like.
Tears watching this video. Amazing job Captain Sullenberger!
The little dude thanking Sully for saving his daddy 😍
I am going to watch the movie again.
A true Captain and hero.
Thank you for bringing my daddy home 😭😭😭😭

It's sad that our society admires celebrities more than actual heroes.
I saw the movie starring Tom Hanks (who is one of my favorite actors) today and was so moved by it! OMG, what a wonderful story!!
I love this, it's just simple and to the point. 60 minutes really still holding it together after all of these years.

I thought the same. We all needed this story, especially after 9/11 but NY especially ❤

Give that man the Medal of Honor!
You have to be in the military to receive the Medal of Honor. Sully was a civilian pilot for an airline.
I don’t know Sully, but I love him for what he did.
May god bless u our captain ❤

It's those damn birds!

it's simply astonishing how Sully kept this aircraft in one piece... I have seen aircraft hitting the water and the results are not pretty!
I think Captain Sully saved me on that trip that day.
❤❤❤ Cpt. Sullenberger ❤❤❤
I just saw the movie last night in a hotel room in Woodstock, Georgia

Greatness

And to think the FAA & airline wanted to throw this man under the bus. Incredible.

if this plane had gone down in 2023, half the passengers would be tiktoking as the jet approached the water

Sully is exactly who he should be. The last person he wanted to be was a “celebrity”
A big giant like for the crew and passengers but 1 big giant dislike for Katie Couric!
Bro should never work a day I’m his life again. Give him billions
😀
The way this lady interview pisses me off
Just for the record! That's it how hucking works ... just as a reminder in times of stupid corona hystery ...

What
Allah saved you all .. Mr. Sully just did his part in excellent way.
how do you know it was allah? It could have been Jesus Christ.....or Budda....
Don't forget bacon. Captain Sullenberger had bacon with his eggs that morning for breakfast, that gave him a good start to his day. Hurray for bacon!
Wait!!! I thought allah believed all non muslims were infidels and should be killed.
I wish from this people thanks God first and know about the god more and go in right path. God put this pilot to survive all. And give them big chance
It’s so funny to see that we fail to see that this was God who saved every body through Sully, and he was just a good pilot and did his job well but the miracle was the one that saved everyone
I agree he used Capt Sully as an instrument through him his grace and mercy allowed everyone to come through this experience and survive.
Why doesn't God do this more often tho?
Yeah, yeah, just another excuse for losing your luggage...
Too much????? 100 Pilot done the same and in the sea where the condition much harder.
