This is the perfect example of the butterfly-effect. Just imagine due to some unfortunate circumstances, Sully wasn't the captain on that flight. That doesn't automatically mean that the flight would have ended in a disaster, but the odds would go down. Now when we extrapolate into the future what may happen when the lives saved wouldn't be there. This quickly affects literally everything the more time goes on. Any interaction between people would have been different. So when you would compare two timelines, after all those years the world would look quite different. Though the same is true for almost every decision or circumstance. Keep in mind that a pedestrian being delayed by 5 seconds could mean that he gets hit by a car or don't. Even the slighest shifts in timing could prevent a horrible situation or could turn an otherwise lucky situation into the worst day of your life. So people who just heard about the crash / miracle would have reacted different Time is very fragile in some sense. On the other hand each outcome may have positive and negative consequences. I'm sure some people could have benefitted when the plane would have crashed. However you could never attribute it directly to this event. The butterfly effect gets very blurry very quickly and since we can only experience one outcome, we never know how it would have gone.
Whenever Sully takes the podium, it occurs to me that he is a very good public speaker. US Airways could have had a way worse public speaker as a accidental hero.
I've saved over 500 lives from San Diego to Virginia Beach and no one even knows my name. I've been injured many times in those rescues from being burned several times to being stabbed, cut, physically attacked and more. Sully saved 150ish lives in one period that was actually part of his job. I'm a Samaritan and I saved 500+ on 1 Sept. 1978 at the Royal Inn Hotel in San Diego. I just don't understand.
Every life saved by this young doctor is another life saved by Sully.
