Hi Joe, I hope it is ok to reply here, but I have a question on your video on how to access the wiring on an existing recessed can light. I have one that was installed when my home was built 30 yrs ago, and it suddenly stopped working. I have gotten so much misinformation. I had a repair person here who said there is power to the switch but not to the can light and that he would have to cut into my ceiling to get to the beams and do drywall repair and a whole production for an estimate of 250.00, plus the fixture. I called Home Depot to see if I need the housing or a new can kit. after watching your video. My existing light measures 7" from outer edge of white enclosure, to the other side. Home Depot told me they do not make 7" and I would have to buy a 6" kit, and have someone fill in the space with dry wall. I cannot believe there is no way to simply fix a recessed can with wiring that has gone bad. Any advice you could offer would be so appreciated!

Is there a black square or black round plastic piece inside the can near the light bulb area? There may be a temperature sensor that could have gone bad. Can you email me some pictures of the can light. preferably pics of the area where the light bulb is. Possibly with the trim ring removed. My email is [e-mail]. I might be able to help. I don't get home from work till late so you may have to wait till around this time in the evening for me to respond.
