    You only need to order the parts that need replacing or you can buy the entire rebuild kit. It takes a few hours and a few parts that can be ordered through the links above. Disclaimer:

    Good job! Last year redid my 40 year old Charmglow grill. Solid cast aluminum. Biggest problem was finding a new control valve that would fit into the post that its mounted on. Found a guy in Pittsburg that had one. Looks great...works great! I love that you like to rebuild things and keep the old stuff working....rare in this "throw away" society we now live in. Keep up the good work and give the little guy a hug for all of us.

    Nice. I love seeing people fix things instead of just junk them. I"ve got a grill my neighbor gave me. A little work and it does great. I drilled the orifices and hooked up a natural gas line and just feed it from my house.

    Nice job. I love how you not only fixed the grill but you fixed the parts for the grill. My burners fell apart just touching them, lol. So I had no choice but to but the replacement kit for 45.00. It came with 5 burners, 5 heat caps and 4 crossover tubes. Not too bad considering I spent 550.00 for it 6 years ago. Thanks for sharing!!

    Great video! I found the same one in the garbage. I hooked up a tank to it and the burners worked perfect! Even the electric ignite worked!!! So I took the time and restored it just like you did and you should see it! It is beautiful! Beats the hell out of the grill I had. But I am gonna convert my old one into a charcoal grill because my grandma gave it to me. Once again great video man!!!!!

    I just completed rebuilding my Char-Broil 4 burner commercial gas grill. I purchased it over 7 years ago and my burners, cross over pipes and flame tamers were rusting out. I called Char-Broil and they found where I registered it, over 7 years ago, and they sent me 4 gas burners free!. I ordered the other parts and installation was easy. My grill is working great. Char-Broil was very nice and professional. I cover my grill after every use, but it does sit outside all year Char-Broil was really great. Thanks, JohnG.

    I disassembled everything... fairly easy. Used electrolysis on small parts and muriatic acid on big panels. Muriatic acid will leave stains on stainless btw. Either make sure to not get them on stainless steel or sand it off. Now it's like brand new.
    These grills are fairly simple and straightforward. Don't be afraid to take it apart to clean and paint. I used 2000' Rustoleum spray paints.

    If you are going to do this much work just, you might as well replace the burners. You can get a kit from $17.99 to $25, or $22 to $40 if you want shields and started rails included.

    The grill repair came out great. I had to replace the tents (Weber calls them Flavorizor Bars) in my grill last year. I don't have access to a brake, so I bought them from 3rd party vendor on Amazon.
    I was looking at a smaller 18" & 30" metal brake at Harbor Freight, the prices were cheap enough and the amount of times I would use it should last a while.

    • @doublewide6
      @doublewide6  8 років тому

      Having a small brake is handy. I'm not sure what the cost off-hand, but if you can use it a few times a year and it is not crowding out your workspace it is worth it for sure.

    Another problem area on these grills is the Grease Drip Pan will rust out. The Charbroil has a riveted in pan so it is not easily replaced. I just replaced mine by cutting out the pan and replacing it with a new stainless pan. The new pan has adjustable width to fit different width grills. There's a link for the 'tough to fix rusty bottom' in your description which doesn't have drain wholes for the grease to drip through. If you had that I guess you wouldn't need a drip pan.

    Nice job! What type of metal (stainless, etc) would you suggest to rebuild the little shelves that hold the far end of the burners? I've had several grills where these disintegrate over time. My current grill has them spot welded to the rear of the grill, so I was thinking of drilling holes and screwing new angle brackets in. Thanks!

    The correct size replacement parts are available on Amazon. Lowe's sells universal parts that don't work well. Burners, 'tent' grease deflectors all available, in stainless steel. The tent things last much longer if wiped off regularly to prevent grease buildup and burning off. Just need your model # found on the back of grill. The porcelain coated grates clean up real nice just by soaking in dish detergent standing upright in a bucket.

  • @rhinomite5203
    @rhinomite5203 5 років тому +2

    I know you 'repaired' all you parts but unfortunately that's not always the case. Your work might give you the stainless for free too. You can't really say this was a $50 dollar build/repair. Your video inspired me to check my 4 year old Char Broil and even at that, I had just ordered some new Grill Grates so I needed to get them installed anyways. I pulled the 'tents' and found more rust and rot so I started my list of parts. $192 and change later plus the cost of the Grill Grates, almost $400.......That's why most people throw away crap like this because another $400, or less and you have a whole new grill. I fixed mine and will use it for another 5-6 years but most people just don't have the time, knowledge, or energy to put into it. Definitely a 'throw away' world, pretty soon grills will be like microwaves and TV's, and you won't be able to understand the internals and be just that, throw away......

    A buddy of mine gave me this grill a year ago and I finally went to look at it and the inside is completely rusted out. It’s going to end up on the curb for trash night.

    Time and a little patience gets you a working grill. I like the black paint, too. I makes it look "richer" if that makes any sense.

      Thanks, I take more pride in anything that I had a hand in fixing. Now I'm excited to use my grill again.

      @@anafonseca8748 I had to remove and rebuild the rusted out areas. You can purchase replacement metal and angle iron at Lowes or home depot. I used a grinder and cut off tool to remove the old metal and to cut the the new metal.

      @@anafonseca8748 I had to rebuild the back wall of the unit lucky there was enough to rebuild. I used stock metal to rebuild the back wall and I used angle iron to secure the venturi tubes and flavor shields.

    Good move, brazing rod is terrible for patching holes. You'll end up with a massive blowout.
