I was thinking of getting the 590 retrograde. Seemed like a good price. Then I see the 590a1 retrograde is superior in everyway. All metal trigger guard. Lighter and shorter Trigger pull, better reset.
Only issue is the price difference🤔
IMHO, the price difference includes Sights, Trigger Guard, Safety Tab and Barrel Thickness. You decide if the price difference is worth the features you get. I have both, I like them both.
The 500 retro is literally a picture gun used for the 1999 mummy movie. Might have to get that one just for that reason

I like the XS sights, i have them on my Marlin 1894 and Ruger Scout. On the Mossberg i like the original sights better, because the are protected against bumbs.
And that is cool, I just prefer the ease of adjustability on the XS sights, Mossberg ships some guns with these XS kits too for a reason, but they are more expensive to make.
I think both shotguns are great! If you don’t plan on shooting heavy loads and you just want a very nice shotgun for plinking, hunting and home defense, then the 590 is great! If you want the Improved sight and extra steel construction, then the 590A1 is great! Neither of these shotguns are better than the other as they’re differences only compare when giving them hell like rough housing the gun or shooting heavy loads.
Yes indeed, both are GREAT shotguns, happy I got both of them. I changed the sights on the 590A1 and went with the XS Systems, LOVE that custom change!!
@@yrsued thank you for the feedback! I normally don’t get such haste reply’s after commenting so late. I’m a serious gun collector and I go for quality firearms after a couple of mistakes during my childhood when buying guns. I wanted to get a Chinese Narinco 1897 shotgun but those damn things are overpriced now and it’s unfortunate that I may never get a Winchester 97. but I wanted to get a solid shotgun that I could trust with my life with and I think that the M590A1 will suit my style and my task for it, considering that I was planning on spending 1k on a good shotgun to begin with.
I think I might get one of these as a self Christmas gift this year and I look forward to getting one, especially with your response and fantastic video being a perfect advertisement to get one of these! again, Thank you!
@@diplexnormal3353 Speaking of Norinco 1897 being silly overpriced... In the early to mid 2000's, I picked one up, the Trench Gun, I fired les than 5 shells with it, put it away. A couple of years ago, I decided I didn't need it anymore, it was like new, box and Manuals, My buddy put it for me on GunBroker and I sold the dang thing for over $1200.
IMHO, today, Mossberg makes the BEST pump shotgun in the market. The 590 is a GREAT fighting Shotgun, ask anyone.
The 590A1 is My dreamed shotgun, we allways need a metal safety tang, metal triger guard, a tic barrel, ghost ring sight and a BAYONET LUG 😂👍🥇.

I would leave it in the retro-grade trench gun configuration but add a sling but that's just me and perhaps customize another example a little bit !!!
I didn't change the stock, I did change the sights, because I wanted the XS Kit on it!! I like the XS kit MUCH better for my needs
@@yrsued I kind of want one now but the cheapest I found so far is right at $700 dollars and some retailers are asking $900 to $1000 dollars !!!
@@jeffreyelliott622 Well, $700 for an A1 Retrograde is a STEAL!! MSRP for one is now $1,018.00, so, $700 is over $300.00 under MSRP!!

A man of his word! You told me you would do more shotgun content! Good for you! Just picked up a 590a1 with 18.5" bbl and the sights you showed. Also just got a 590a1 spx with the bayonet! Only thing I have changed on both was the addition of the Magpul Stock. Guess I'm getting back into my shotguns like I used to be?

I love the ghost ring on the 590A1...but do I love it $250 more? Prob not.
The $250 is not just for the Ghost Ring
YOu have:
Ghost Ring Sight, Ramp Front Sight, Steel Trigger Guard, Steel Safety, and finally, MUCH Heavier Barrel.
I explained all of this on a previous video, I didn't think I needed to say it again here, I think I should have.
That's a fine weapon and I have it, a little heavy and a little too long, in the stock, in my opinion, got it from Bud's right before the pandemic along with its little brother the shockwave nightstick, both in 12 gauge and both In wood, congratulations !!!
I wanted something longer, I like the 20" Barrel!!

Thanks Yamil for the review of the Mossberg 590A1 retrograde. I'm really considering that shotgun. Also when you have the ability to do so can you review the new Winchester SXP Defender Trench. I'm really considering both guns. They have the classic old school style to them that I love but with the modern technology that makes them even better.

Why don’t put the new sights on the 590 , since it doesn’t have one.
I put an XS Bead on the 590, maybe later I will put another rear sight on it.
Mine did not come with a ghost ring rear sight and only has a bead up front.
So you got a 590, not a 590A1, I did a Video on that one too!!

Lean it a shotgun to offset some of the recoil. Use Federal Flite Control 00 Buck, at 10 yards you will get a single hole.
I know, sometimes, with the 20" Barrel, IMHO, it doesn't expand enough!!
@@yrsued The worst I've found were Remington. I still get a very good pattern with the majority of Federal Flite Control buckshot pellets at 60 yards staying right on a human sized target. I've put down quite a few 4 legged animals up to full grown cattle usually with a handgun and one shot. I almost had to take out a buffalo on a major state highway until we chased it back into it's pasture. I was ready with a 12 gauge using slugs but, glad I did not have to.
@@rtaggs8178 Sometimes, the same ammo performs completely differently on different guns, I've seen that on Gunsite Media events!!
The spacer between the lug and heat shield where you put screws on, is it made of metal or plastic?
The two I have are plastic and I think they ship a longer one that you must trim to fit.

That depends on where you buy from?? MSRP is one thing and retail or online pricing is another thing. Whatever price I tell you would be totally WRONG. I don't even know where you live or purchase from.
Do you feel a weight difference with that heat shield ?
If there is a difference, I know there is, it's nothing I can feel by just picking up the shotgun or even compare it with another shotgun. Not enough difference to make a difference.
How did you manage to find one in stock and do you think they still have them in production even now
They are being made and I shot this video over a year ago. It wasn't hard!!
I appreciate the reply and I’ve had so much trouble looking for them but don’t have much gun stores so it’s a lot harder hope to get one!!

Where did you find this in stock?
Mossberg is shipping these every day, they are not impossible to find. C2 Tactical in Scottsdale is finally starting to stock guns, the last time we filmed there, they had several shotguns and AR's. Quite a bit of handgun stock too.

They are both different, but the A1 is a little beefier!!
I don't think it's a standard but pad. Could be wrong, but I think it's a retro but pad from back in the day.
I don’t know what you call standard…. This is the buttons Mossberg shipped with my gun, to me, that is standard
@@yrsued lmao. I was just saying its a retro pad and that's one of the upgrade on this model. Lol.
@@claytoncarter4071 because pad technology has greatly improved in recent years, they are putting the best materials on these. Back in early 2000, Remington Synthetic But Pads were melting inside your gun safe!! I have two nasty black stains from two butt pads that got stuck to the bottom of my safe!!

Lol As a mossberg fanatic who knows what the standard mossberg but pad "junk" as to which you just referred, the retro pad on the 500, 590a1 and 590 retro are a nice upgrade. But even above that, it's the nostalgic appearance that I harken back to my youth. As does the wood furniture does for me too.
