Noel Gallagher Tokyo Complete Extended Interview
Вставка
- Опубліковано 1 сер 2015
- My second interview with Noel Gallagher conducted on the eve of the 2000 world tour in Tokyo. This was the first time they toured with the new line up with Gem Archer and Andy Bell
Noel is so comfortable in his own skin, and speaks so genuinely in this interview. You almost never hear celebrity types speak like this - they always trying to portray an image rather than be who they really are
are you kidding? he looks so uncomfortable in this interview. Bonehead & Guigsy are gone, Liam's voice was deteriorating.... he's a man trying to come to terms with the fact that his band is no longer #1..... he's taking stock, at best.
Whataboooouttt kurtcoabaian
You know who else is like a soothing interviewee for me
Mac de Marco I think Mac DeMarco is the last real rockstar
What an interview. I have seen thousands of Oasis and Noel interviews, but this one has compelled me to make my first ever UA-cam comment. It's like he's just having a chat with a mate. Brilliant.
@Ryan Gillen Do you work for a Music Magazine or T.V.????Or how did this interview come about????
@Ryan Gillen Because i find it a good interview. And most Music Journalists ask stupid questions. And you dont....that is why i am asking.
@Ryan Gillen Aaaah alright.....i am a fan from the beginning.I thought you were doing the interview. But its a great interview.Noel is very open here.
He left 90s coke noel at home
Agreed. The interviewer did a good job matching Noel’s mood and vibe that day
that jacket is boss
Noel always looks cool as fuck
mrjamesgrimes That’s Liam yer thinkin’ of
Act up nah, Noel is cool too, not just liam
Retro adidas tracksuit top. Can never go wrong with one of those! Those guys just made it look even more cool! Lol
His fucking hair is what's boss. It makes everything below look better. Dead serious.
This is the most honest interview I've seen from Noel. He was clearly in a bit of a spiral of self doubt, probably because coming off the drugs, probably because the music world had changed around him, probably because the band was collapsing around him. There's always been this bravado which I guess comes from the sense that he escaped the dreadful upbringing he had so anything after that is a bonus, but he's genuinely vulnerable here. He has something to lose at this point and is in danger of losing it, and doesn't have the 'toot' to help charisma his way through it. It's fascinating and really just, I guess, normal human.
hard to comprehend this interview is nearly 20 years old
some scientists say that time "moves" faster with every year passed
Tiiiime keeeeps rolliiing byyyy
I think it's longer than that.
Different era now
Noel G always does great interviews, but I think this is the best one I've ever seen. And I have watched and listened to every interview I could find. He's a total straight shooter. This was a great time in his career to talk to him, and the interviewer was asking him interesting questions. I learned a lot about what he thought and how he felt about a bunch of stuff. I really enjoyed this. Thanks so much for posting this. Peace.
The most honest interview by Noel
love Noels voice in every situation
16:22 when he says that people don't like him anymore... This is the best interview, he is so sincere here, it is like I am standing beside him on this balcony chatting) I don't think now it is possible to get such an interview from him. He is more entertaining now and closed. Thanks for upload, amazing video
@d You honestly think that when Alan McGee saw Oasis play for the first time and signed them on the spot, he was planning a cultural revolution? Give me a break.
@d dunno about that man, blur wasn't really a part of the "lad" culture..
Definitely the best interview. You don't catch Noel like this now.
Cause he doesn’t exist anymore.
@@fshoapsI like his new band
Yeah you'll catch no one like they were decades earlier. If you do they should have a word with themselves
Probably because it was 25 years ago
Nice jacket
Morning Glory has sold 23 million now
This is a great interview. Really feels like a moment.
i actually met noel a few months after this and he had this jacket on
Most insightful interview I've ever heard from him. It's really interesting hearing his comments about Liam not being able to sing as well as he used to, cause I was wondering about that. He still sounds great in the studio, but that's the studio..not 2 hours of live singing
stonesthrow420 Totally agree! This is probably the best Noel interview I've ever seen and I've watched many. It wasn't the typical bravado thing, he actually talked about real shit going on in his life. Love this!
Fucking brilliant interview, one of the best one he's ever done. Love his haircut and jacket. Could listen to him talk for hours and hours.
one of the most candid interviews by Noel, ever.
brilliant interview, never heard him actually talk about liams voice so honesty. Loved Beady Eye but there was gigs when liam sounded completely done.
His voice is pretty good these days.
Aye. Sounds good again these days though. No surprise with his aggressive singing it would later on cause issues.
Now Liam has just sold out two nights at Knebworth
great interview with a great interviewer, you can tell he’s a proper fan
that was a proper interview, probably the best i've seen from the earlier years, honest and very open from Noel
Great interview, really enjoyed this. It's almost pessimistic in a way, a bit sad to see him saying that Oasis had blown it in the late 90s. Was thinking that you'd never get Noel saying that in the British press at the time, where he was still cocky and that. Seems like he's really speaking his mind here
Noel really outdoes himself here, there's this combination of all the human traits and attitudes, all rolled into one, and they pop out one after the other. And he talks about stuff all musicians are fascinated by. But it's the vibe of the guy which overides everything....Cool, unassuming, humble, real. He's said some stuff about Harry lately I think could have been left out. But this is the great music man at his finest.
Good stuff Noel. Always love his honesty. Must have been a worrying time for him back then after Be Here Now. 15 years later and he's writing songs like "The Ballad of The Mighty I" and "While the song remains the same". He's still got it big time!!
xyzxyz997 and now he's written shite like holy mountain smh
Rob Wightman yeah, I got a shock when I first heard who built the moon at how much his writing had deteriorated. I still feel strongly that David Holmes has had a a bad influence on Noel creatively.
This is my favourite oasis era (99-02). I don't really care that much about the hyped years in comparison. They matured musically so much and their music had a darker tone in it. I guess that's why people did not really take it well.
Interviewers great, clearly actually into the band
Those are the best interviews, laid back, open, engaging. Couldn't imagine Noel blurting out no one liked him back home egos and all that. 😂
Best interview I’ve seen. Class!
What a great interview! thanks for sharing with us
Best interview I’ve ever seen with Noel ! Brilliant, hair is sick here too
I enjoy watching noel Gallagher's interviews, watching his body language give away clues of the future...for example, when he says he doesn't care if the album doesn't sell well, then he bites his nails, feeling anxious, in which he does want it to do well. It things like that, if you listen closely he tells and acts the true story of what goes on behind the scenes.
His best interview ever. So honest. You can clearly see he does not take drugs any more. To the point that he looks kinda depressed. Thoughts?
More “here” & “with it” when off drugs
Great interview. Thanks 🇨🇦
Really enjoyed that. Great interview.
Great sound on this interview.
huh brilliant interview, thanks!
the best interview i ever seen !! fullstop!! goodstuff
Best Noel Gallagher interview ever!
So calm, like he’s talking to a mate. He’s real. And good questions from the interviewer for once.
aww he is so cute he is like a baby owl ugh
this
First time I've seen Noel described as a baby owl. Alrighty then.
aahaahaahahh
Lol whatt
baby owl
God-like when he talks about his songwriting as off ~min. 30. Genius.
Thank you for sharing this vid!
thanks really good interview ..
Brilliant interview. The best. Honest, reflective and not trying to say controversial stuff.
The realist in the music industry. Doesn’t care about imagine, or any of that shit. He’s just him.
I don’t know about that he’s obviously a big Lennon fan I think he’d love imagine
Great to see noel more vulnerable and humble . Fatherhood probably made him more humble. I think when he met his wife sara in 2000. He was a lot happier. And went back to being more confident.
11yrs we had to wait for that solo album
Thanks for sharing aww Pls dont ever delete this
Hes hard on himself. Be here now is fuckin great. God compared to today its like a fuckin diamond. I always loved that album.
If it was mixed better and a little shorter, it would've been up there with DM and MG.
@@vita1ogy. Would have to rewrite the lyrics and drop DYKWIM and Magic Pie as well
great interview
Great interview
I seen them on this tour, in Landstown road was my first time to see them I was 16. They were unreal 👌 haven't seen anything like that day again musically and iv seen a lot of acts some day☘️
Wow. I stopped part way in and read all the comments before watching the rest. Everyone says the same - a very honest and sometimes quite touching interview. Do you think he points to a solo future a few times?
never seen this interview and Ive seen a lot of the earlier ones! respeck to the uploader x
LOL, waiting for the tape to rewind...The good days...
No time wasted listening to this lad.
Cool to hear him talking about Liam’s voice. Liam’s singing style was never destined for longevity, it’s “technically wrong” as a “voice coach” would say. Was only a matter of time.
All the more reason to be happy we got the songs and performances we did when we did. On track forever.
it's age
@@zarni000he wasn’t even 30 at this point, age wasn’t really a factor in 2000
@@YoureMadCryAboutIt didn't say he's old but he was older. You age even between 25 and 30 you know...
@@zarni000 yeah but not THAT much. John Lennon had the same singing style/lifestyle as him, but he sounded just as great at 40.
@@YoureMadCryAboutIt no. Lennon had very different singing
Great honest interview
Great find!
This must be amazing I haven’t seen this much positive comments in a long time, I’m making time to see this.
You can tell he was really angry at the world on that time. Also he knew his glory days as a songwriter were over and he was so honest about it....Now you listen to his interviews and he is a totally different person....
How would you say he is different exactly?
@@thragblan if i were to answer this question wth my own opinion, because hes become a bitter knob head, always complaining and being crazy. similar to what liam was in the 90's. to me its almost like hes copying LG's wild days but it doesnt suit noel man, its just odd. in the interviews today he never sounds honest, just calls himself the greatest and the best and doesnt know his place.
This might be on one of the best Oasis interviews I have ever seen, all these many years...
perfect hair!!
From 38min until 41.30 min this is a good reason / example why i fucking love this guy
He is right, Oasis did completely change after bonehead and guigs left. Their sound and Noel’s song writing changed from supersonic to songs like Gas panic and so on.
I can listen to this guy forever 🍻💪🏼
Great interview, never seen this before. Love finding stuff on Oasis from this period as it was when I first got into them.
Having a kid I now know how hard it must have been for Noel to be away from his baby.
Well, Liam did go on to sing Some Might Say again in his solo career.
best quote of all time "it's like riding a bike ..y'know ya do forget how to do it" noel 2000
44 minutes any old skool Oasis fan must watch and will certainly appreciate.
Cool guy, cool interview...
I love hearing these interviews from back then and hearing him now. He is way more insightful than I ever gave him credit for back in the 90's. He is a brilliant artist and the thing is, can back up his confidence or arrogance with great product and at the end day all you can say is " Fucking hell mate, that's Fucking Brilliant". Great raw interview thank you for posting this...
very good questions
Good to know im not the only one with books and pages of lyrics that ''we all go to'' when in need of inspiration although im still yet to put one together i have stacks of lyrics i could organise into a song or Album lol Great Interview this is
15 years ago!!
No. 20!
Still One of the Greatest Music Writers
*The greatest
As a Leeds fan, I fucking love his jacket
Perfect blend. 👌
It's very interesting to first whatch the 1998 Hongkong album and now this one
Amazing
"it is about the fans, it is giving them a good record and a good night out ...gigs are a night out, listening to records is MUSIC" ... looove this lyrics and music writer - me encanta este tio!..the more i know him the more i like him. From all my best and favourites musicians, he is the first whose solo albums have not desaponting AT ALL, the opposite. Well done Noel; do you get to know about these comments by the way? ... hope so any way. You are really good sure you know... it makes me feel good the fact that i like your music, your taste, your feel, and attitude to it! grrr keep fishing for songs and record something soon .. need new good tunes for my running!
brilliant
Feb 2000 at a guess? Great interview. Seen a couple of comments about the jacket as well, I have to agree it's fucking great!
go back to listening to Ride, you horrible Oasis hater!
SOTSOG seems like a comedown on an album. I think Noel struggled to come to terms with the "magic" of the first 2/3 albums not being there anymore in these days.
Over the years this and Morning Glory have become my favourite albums. Yes, it was a comedown album, but there is something very raw and stripped back in it that I feel has aged extremely well.
I saw The Who at Shepherd's Bush Empire in '99. I think Noel was there the 2nd night. He's right, they were great.
Noel is the best song writer to come out of England 🇬🇧
if youre from manchester
Hahaha good one
Damn that was an honest interview.
Love it
Got a thick sound and dont go away is great all around the world dya know what i mean magic pie so many more
Can anyone tell me the model of the camera used to film this? I really like this type of film quality but can't figure it out exactly. Thanks.
This is just SD Beta Video filmed back in 2000, pre HD so not so much stylised, just old unfortunately, if you're looking to make your film look old and dated there are plenty of filters that you can use in post
Open and kinda laid back interview. Love that Adidas jacket. Some good interviews from that time man. Jon Savage with Kurt Cobain etc. 👍
Loved Kurt's interview in 2000
@@DaveTaste Dammit! Just the 7 years difference. 🙈😂
@@Cairo98_ 😂👍
The world's changed so much since 2000 and that period, and not for the better. Such a brilliant time to be around and that music scene, before auto-tune and myriad of other technologies had really kicked in. Noel's always been a great in interviews and still is!
If you listen to him then compared to now it’s evident his persona has changed.
Thunderbirds are go!
I never got the Beatles comparison but noel did say I write songs that sound like the Beatles and the stones.
It's very interesting to see how Noel's English has changed over the years... Today it's a little different and more comprehensible than back then 🤔👍
Be Here Now is a great album - always thought Noel was overly harsh about it
agreed!
I skip most of it nowadays. It could've been an amazing album, but it just falls flat. Funny enough, I skip a lot of Definitely Maybe too nowadays. Morning Glory is the shit though. I even think that Sotsog has aged pretty well. I think if they had took a break, perhaps BHN would've ended up being merged with the best songs from it, and they would've dropped some of the weaker (most) tracks from BHN.
@@mikejenkins4924 I thought Shoulders was a disappointment tbh, not bad just a bit underwhelming. they lost that raw powerful sound. it sounded very tame and studio bound (to me). Be Here Now still has that fizzing energy
@@CS-mo7xp I agree with you, but that is why I like it. It is such a comedown album. Bhn on the other hand, although it has energy, the compositions are just not as interesting, plus everything sounds overbright, with an overabundance of major chords. Apart from a few songs, it is an album that I think has dated the worst. Definitely wouldn't consider it a good follow up to WTSMG. If mixed with a few of the songs off of Standing, it could've been another masterpiece, especially with a few of the A-sides swapped out for B-sides.
Nah, lot of drivel on it. Some good tunes though yeah
Great interview! Worth the watch. Here is a much more mature Noel. Maybe having a baby made him grow up a lot at the time.
Marc-André Giroux he stopped taking coke
I thought Liam's voice on the Familiar to Millions DVD concert was still great by this time. Surprised to hear he couldn't sing "Some Might Say" anymore. I think it's also the 1st time i've ever heard Noel admit Liam couldn't sing a certain song
StrettyHS 313 I think the chorus was a bit of a stretch - it was a slight strain even in the mid-90s. That said he sang it well enough On Jools Holland in 2000 and again at Finsbury in '02. But yeah, I've never heard Noel say anything like this before...
dave790 I just listened to his Knebworth performance of it. Don't think anything after that beats it. Top notch. I think 2002 was the very tail end of his voice being great. Personally to me, I don't think he sounded very good at Finsbury.
Yeah it is blinding. Main Road that year as well. I liked his vocals in 2002 but it's not for everyone. There's been the odd show since. Even now, with rest, he could sing well at a one-off show. But even then they'd be no way he could pull off Some Might Say.
dave790 2005 American show on here, he sounds pretty decent. But the 2004 Glastonbury performance he sounds terrible (Especially during SCYHO) just gotta catch him on the right day I suppose. 1996 is the year I would dream of him recapturing though haha. Quality.
+dave790 yeah he also sang it at the Bern festival in 2002 as well
18:03 - 18:08;
What was the name of that band? I couldn't hear it.
I really admire Noel in that he's very intelligent he doesn't mince his words he says it as it is and isn't afraid to put his opinion across even if he knows people will hate it .
He's basically very honest and says it as it is and that's a rare thing nowadays seen as a lot of famous people employ people to write what they should say in interviews and to the press, but Noel doesn't give a shit and he's definitely not that pretentious and up his own arse .
He's never lost that quality or attitude towards interviews and press, he really is a breath of fresh air when it comes to celebrities who are solely concerned about their image and what boring shite comes out their mouth.
Noel is a real one he's never given a fuck and still doesn't give a fuck 😊
Im here for that jacket.
Oasis did change the world but they don't get any credit for it
Lol changed the world wtf 😂
Like a song can change the world ? no its just a song it doesnt change the world
@@alantracy6757 it can. your just closed minded.
Just an ok band really
I can see a liar is a rocking tune not bothered about the lyrics
Noel seems very grounded in this interview, compared to interviews 5 to 6 years prior
