Thanks for the tutorial, I got more from this than 3 years at Uni
Literally same!
Wow, I can't tell you how awesome this is. Lighting is a topic wrapped in black cloth and hidden in a box and dumped at the bottom of the sea, so thank you for shedding a light!!
This is by far one of the best tutorials I've seen in years. Not that other people post stuff that is not worth my time. It's that this was good. Hats off!
Honestly, mate, this video is amazing! My Uni gives me these others based on older versions of Maya which do an alright job, but these show a level of artistry way beyond those! I look forward to seeing more of your work as time goes on, especially if there are more videos on lighting. Keep being awesome!
Thank you so much for this tutorial, my professor talked about this for four hours over complicating it and you were able to make it so much clearer. Once again thank you so much
Possibly the first proper video on lighting theoriticals I've found. Thanks a lot for this wonderful share !!!
Thanks NewAge! I'm so glad that people are finding this useful!
Brent you're a lifesaver, I've been pulling my hair out trying to figure out why my area light is so weak it's barely visible, simply turning off normalize and voila it actually finally works properly, always the way - one little tick box.
Wow, you made the best lighting tutorial ever. You should start taking donations! I'm sure people would appreciate your efforts. You were able to cover more than my lecturer at uni
Thank you so much! I'm glad you are liking it man. Your wish is my command, I've included a donation link in my banner on my youtube mainpage :D

hi Brent, how are you ?
your tuts are really amazing,,,,,,,,,,,,
can you make a tutorial on making a realistic glass that has fingerprints and smudges on it?(in any software and rendering engine).......................
I am really trying it hard but not getting that realistic smudgy look...................
my render looks kind of powder been added on top of glass but not that smudgy look.
thanks,
Bhuwan sharma
Hey Bhuwan, yeah I think that's something I could do. Look for it in a future tutorial. Thanks for watching!
thanks!
amazing work
really thank you for being in the world 😂😂👍👍👍
It's my pleasure
Gracias :)
Thank you
Glad it was helpful Joy
That's a clean one, what are the best render settings to avoid noise in the scene especially when there's fur elements in the scene?
How did you import the 3D head scan? Maya 2020 isn't able to read stl files :( .
ua-cam.com/video/bz03vOzR8Sg/v-deo.html
Is it possible to show the showcase-final thoughts in a different video but a bit slower? To study more the steps. Thank you.
quality content
Thank you Rahul!
very nice
Thanks Alvaro!
Very very useful, thank you so much :) Tho I couldn't upload the object downloaded from MyMiniFactory to Maya. Could you suggest me how to do it? Thank you very much
Thanks Brent. You are a good teacher. How can i share my own follow-along with you.
Sure!
Thats a functional tutorial.
I was underestimating arnold for a long time. Btw I've heard they are making ArnoldGPU. Any options for upgrade from verion that I got with my Maya?
Yeah, Arnold is really an incredible renderer. Very easy to get up to speed and get good results. I've heard that Arnold is developing an XPU pipeline soon. Which would be a combination of GPU and CPU
ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! i tried to download the burst of david but for some reason my maya wouldn't let me, could you tell me if you downloaded it in a different way?
Thanks! Make sure you activate STL addon in your plugins.
thanks for the vid! any new link to the lighting guide pdf please?
How are you using the myminifactory meshes in maya. All I find are .stl files that Maya doesnt open?
You need to make sure that you have the stl extension active in your Maya Addons
Great tutorial. how do i decrease the noise?
Adjust the samples by incresing them
Hello there, cool video. Could you explain how you set the parameters for the rendering? thanks
Hey Carlotta,
I'll try to explain how rendering parameters in the next video. However, I'm not doing anything overly complicated.
Cheers!
Brent Le Blanc thanks a lot, sorry I’m a self taught so everything is difficult for me cause I have no teachers 😅 but thanks 😁😁😁
thyank you for this tuto! may i know your system config?
Great tutorial Brent! I noticed you turn off your Render as you make changes to the light. Is there a reason for this? Like to save on memory or Maya's stability.
Thanks Cheyne! I turn it off and on for stability. Sometimes I've noticed that Maya will crash when I'm toggling settings with IPR active. Just a habit I suppose.
@@BrentLeBlancCG A good habit too! :) I quickly added this to my workflow after several crashes. Cheers!
Would a widescreen or dual monitor be better?
What is the render settings for this tutorial? Is it at default ?
at 8:08 i didnt have the transform do u know why?
So blocker can be used for creating light beams. But is there any other way to create light beam?
You mean a light beam with volume? You would first need fog for the light to illuminate
In my Maya (2020 version) I don't see the 'New Group' option. Do I need to enable it anywhere?
Not sure if this is still available.
anybody know how he got the renderview on the right? i can get that window but it doesnt update real time i have to keep rerendering
Are you using Arnold renderer? Also how fast it updates may depend on your computer hardware. As far as renderview placement, there is some guides online on how to modify your setup. Clicking through panels etc.
how did you do a vertical render? going crazy over here xd
In the Render Settings you can set any resolution you'd like if you set it to custom size. Then you can just type in a portrait aspect ratio. Hope that helps!
May I ask where you got that real world scaled human model? It looks pretty handy
www.myminifactory.com/scantheworld
@@BrentLeBlancCG Thanks
How do you import stl files into Maya? Kinda new to this still
I think it's just a normal import dialog
Real world scale. So are you assuming the grid units are meters or cm?
I suppose I should clarify, what you should do is pick a scale and stick with it for everything. You can always rebalance your lights to the scale of your scene, but I've always gotten good results setting the scene scale to cm, then adjusting my grid so that it shows Meter Squares, 10 cm Squares and then 1 cm squares. There is really no "right" way to do it, just maybe best practices. I worked at a studio for almost a decade that had its own scale preferences that were not at all world scale, but everything was consistent across their entire asset library. However, when you are trying to match real footage with camera focal lengths and light intensities I think its advisable to pick something like cm or meters and model objects accordingly. When you are modeling furniture or similar objects you can usually find blue prints or dimensions listed and would be very easy for you to match if you are using proper scene scales. Good luck!
could you upload the scene? could we use it as a prefab?
I don't tend to upload my assets, but I may do so in the future. Thanks!
I wanna know where you get that attribute editor
It’s the third icon on the top right of your screen...right beside the user info. Rather, when you click on an object, some panels appear on the right side of your screen. There’s Channel box, Modelling toolkit and Attribute editor. Hope that helps.
16:26 story of my Maya Career
Hey "Unrecognized error" even after enabling that STL plugin idk whats the issue , even after restart -Maya 2020 student version
Hmm, not sure tbh
