Great video Evan. Nice camera angles and great explanation. Your installation is really clean and easy to follow. I just finished installing the new V4.2 frunk lifts on mine that they sent me to do an installation video like yours. The control box is waterproof and I did route the emergency latch to the passenger footwell. The control box only has one big connection. Everything else seems to be the same as yours. I am hoping to post my video sometime this week.

It's not for the faint-hearted. I struggled too. But if i were to do the install again, yes i would say it is easy. (proficiency comes with repetition, but I don't do installs for a living, hence it was a challenge for me, initially.) it's all good
I just got my auto frunk kit from Hansshow and I had to install the brackets for the power struts on the hood. Also, we don't get all them plugs no more to the main computer box. It's all one plug now that goes into the main box.

Not what I would call plug and play, but excellent video.
After my install i am not able to close the Frunk from the onboard screen control. Did you have this issue? I intend to reset the car to see if that helps. Other features work fine.

Let me ask you, if someone pulls on the emergency latch in the wheel well, will it open the frunk? If so, it seems too easy for thieves..
Great video Evan, thank you. Been considering getting the power frunk for my 2021 M3. Can you tell me what the 'buzzer' is for please and if you can skip it from the installation?
it lets you know you activated the power struts and that the hood is about to open or close... Also when you hold the button down inside the frunk it can be programmed to open/close faster or slower. In this case you would listen for the beeps. 1 beep is the slowest, 5 beeps is the fastest. 5 is what I have mine on.

I did it in a couple hours.
It would take at least 2-3 hours (maybe longer as I cleaned the insides before starting the install). But only because one is not proficient with the install If I were to do this again, I am sure I could finish under 2 hours. It's not really difficult.l@@awginger
A little over a month till I have my Model 3...mine will be the 2021 refresh. So I want to see what it has to start with (I believe it comes with an automatic opening frunk, but I'm not sure it auto closes - I know mine will have an auto closing trunk). Once I see what it has, then I'll decide if I ever want to add any aftermarket upgrades.

I don’t have a Tesla, (I really want a Model 3) so I watched this for future reference. How loud is the whole setup? I didn’t really hear it over the music. Good video though!

Oh no, it beeps once letting you know it’s closing or opening and the rest of the proceeds if quite quiet
Thanks for the video. Very helpful. Question, at the end of the video you both open and close from the car screen. I did everything the same, but mine only opens from the car screen. Any idea what I may have done wrong?
Thank you! Umm all connections properly clipped in? Not sure why yours would not close on the screen. There is no canbus connection so that’s the only thing i could see.
@@EMtesla1 Yeah, triple checked all that. Perhaps its a firmware issue, I bought mine in December 2019 and meant to install in early 2020 (we all know how that year went). and just got around to it now.
If you reach out to Hansshow, they may be able to send you a SD card for a software update to that gray box.
I have the same issue. That was made known to me in an article I read from Hansshow prior to my purchase, and it's because of an official enhancement on the s/w impacting m3 from mid 2020. I reached out to Hansshow, but all I got were links for instructional videos that do not really address that particular issue. Hansshow was very supportive for other issues I had since it is the first time I had futz with the system and not proficient with the install. I hope there is a resolution but for now I just have to live with that lack of Closing feature from the onboard PC.
Nice install. But isn't the emergency coil for if you get locked inside the frunk not for general unlocking?
It's to open the frunk hood to access the 12v battery should you need to access it. The button inside the frunk will also open.

It will auto adapt and close as you slightly push it down

Very similar installation.. this is an 2018 Model 3
Can you open the frunk while driving with this device installed?
No you cannot
You definitely did a lot of affixing lol
Wires and struts all easy to do.. just the locking mechanism and hood latch can be slightly difficult. Take your time and you'll be fine.
Any warranty issue with doing this install?
Nope. Since it doesn’t connect into the system I’m told
