That 600 liberty Polaris motor is one of the best. Very reliable and will last a lot of miles. I have 2 2006 rmk 600 144's and I love them!
Agreed, I'm pretty impressed with mine!
Keep up the good vids👍👍
Awesome!
Hey Swanky! Glad to see you got around to the compression test. Does seem a little low but a difference in psi isn’t good. New pistons and rings will fix it up. Or sell her on and upgrade!
Bad warm up this week in the northeast has me bummed. Plus I’ve had flu. I’ll need to go far north to get to the good conditions.
I'm thinking sell it as is and move up to a longer track haha. Aww man that stinks, feel better! We are getting dumped on right now!
SWANKY CAT seems like a good plan. Enjoy the snow!
🤙🏼 keepin’ it Swanky
Ery day!
Looks like people think a hundred PSI isn't that good at all. But you're having fun so go ahead and trailer that thing up to Vilas County or we're getting hammered with snow and I'll see you next weekend. Keep it swanky!
Yeah I noticed that lol I'm ok with it, I really expected worse. We finally got dumped on down here actually! Trails were awesome last night for once!
You're getting snow today!
Lots of it!!1
My'n is 110 Psi Mag. 109 clutch side and I'm thinking about new Rings. I want the 120 at least. 120 for the Edge motor And 125 for the Pro X was factory But they run 110 octane in the Race Sleds.
Time for a rebuild those plugs we're soaked. 🤘🤘
Yeah I'm not sure why that was haha
Jk thats bevous he was holding the throttle to wide open
Its mag/pto sides. Mag meaning where all the electrical is being powered from. PTO meaning power take off ie. Clutch.
Oh yeah PTO that's right, like on the back end of a tractor, I should know that haha.
Well know you know where you stand on the engine. The miles have taken a toll for sure but nothing is stopping it from going another 2 or 4 more thousand miles. Its time to start thinking about the future and what you really wanna do with snowmobiling. Get a new sled? Get a used one? Fix that one since its been pretty good to ya. Get the wife a sled? Get a sled for 2? Ever think of getting a sled that goes off trail in the deep snow? Lots of options out there. Just have to decide what you want to do the most. thanks for the video
I'm thinking something with a longish track, nothing crazy. Possibly a Crossfire or Switchback, depends what pops up at the right price. Thanks for watching!
@@SwankyCatProductions those are nice sleds to pick from
That's crazy man 110psi not bad at all for that many miles. It's probably only 10psi or off the original psi anyway. And did u do a compression test on your quad. The one that wasent running properly?
Yeah I was pretty impressed and happy to see that! I think they are supposed to be 125 when new. I did test the qaud yes... I don't want to ruin the upcoming videos for you so I won't say anymore haha.
Haha alright sounds good man.
It could have 130 psi compression and it wouldn’t matter it would need new pistons anyway cast pistons aren’t designed to last that long wait till your high mileage cast pistons explode and find out for yourselves.
Blow- by is definitely happing. Its time. Does it still feel like its pulling ok? Or i should say the power there
No change in power that I noticed. I'm sure a rebuild would make a noticeable difference though.
I'd go ahead with a top end rebuild. My 01 SRX 700 is 125 on all 3 cylinders and I planned on tearing it completely down.
What are yours suppose to be at?
@@SwankyCatProductions no idea? Guess we should have checked the shop manual.
you need to test cold and hot to give you a better idea, my bet is 92 hot 100 cold like i said. To prevent tread damage, just tight the plug very lightly before waarming up and by that mean, the tread will stay intack. (i have 130psi cold and 120psi hot on a brand new chainsaw)
I agree with others...100 psi is too low. Anything under 110 psi is too low IMO. However its good that they are both close in results...that is a good indication they are wearing evenly. I bet with a fresh cyl hone and new rings your compression would be up over 120 psi. And there is going to be a noticeable change in power. BTW, when I do a compression test my engine is cold, both spark plugs removed, throttle wide open. Should max out at around 3 - 4 hard pulls. 2 strokes are fairly easy to rebuild, I'd recommend doing the rings and a hone and do a video for it too!
Yeah it's getting to be about that time, I think I'll try and milk it out the rest of the season and see if I find another sled I want. I might try it again with both plugs out just to see. Thanks!
Small engines can be described as flywheel or PTO side which in this case would be your clutch. The problem I can see coming with your engine is the difference in compression. One side will be working harder producing the big horsepower while the other is dragging behind. The temperature difference between cylinders is what will cause the problem. Just throwing pistons and rings in it is not the answer either. You have to worry about cylinder out of round, total cylinder wear and ring gap. Not hard to do but very important for longevity.
I suppose I am on the high side of the 10% difference rule... think it'll make it until the end of the season? Ha ha
@@SwankyCatProductions I'd run it for the rest of the year but then again mine hasn't been out of the shed in three years. No snow. :(
Time for new pistons and rings it's the best 300 dollar maintenance you'll do... you spend more then that on a new track with studs
Yeah true...
Anything below 100 is not good. Granted I would take that with a grain of salt since ALL compression testers read different. I've been told a two stroke won't even run with less than 100 psi ?! My last 600 ran fantastic with over 7k on it. It had 115 psi and was getting a little inconsistent with the typical cold start procedure. Me personally, anything under 110 psi seems to be a good time for new rings... why leave any horsepower on the table :-P @Imafarmboy2 is right, 10% difference between cylinders (which you have ... 100/110) is another sign it's time to do a top end sooner than later. Top end (pistons/rings) is cheaper than damaging the cylinders. Love your vids!
Yeah I suppose your right, time for a rebuild pretty quick here. I'm thinking I'll try to milk it the rest of the season or until I find another sled. I'm thinking I'm better off selling it cheap "as is" rather then rebuilding and trying to recoup that cost. Can't imagine there is a huge market for sleds with this many miles haha.
@@SwankyCatProductions Dude I bet your cylinders are still in awesome shape ! Send them to millenium or a shop in Canada called CVtech ! Both cylinders honed is about $150 ! And a complete top end kit SPI pistons are about 170 ! You are back to a brand new engine for about $300 !
twadam...... lies on that theory!!!! My 97 zr 440 had 75lbs on each cylinder and it ran... fired up on one pull but you needed to give it full throttle to get it to move... rebuilt the motor and now have 125+lbs on each
Swanky I’ll buy that sled from you bro
lies ive got an old two stroke outboard puts 90psi per cylinder fires up first pull
Mageneto and pto is what people call the different sides on older sleds, just what I've been told
No I think you are correct!
@@SwankyCatProductions I just always heard people say that,so if I'm right or at least somewhat right I atleast helped you out a little bit.
good for 13000 miles but the one on strap side seem to be a little low soon you dont have choice to buy a newest how your resarch goes on that side?
Yeah it's about time haha. Eh alright, I'm kind of holding out for a Crossfire 800. Seems like you can get a decent one with lower miles for around $2,500. With my short season and rough trails here I just can't see spending to much more lol.
Where’s the link to the compression tester? I need to get one and I’ll help you out
Oh man sorry! Here it is, thank you!!! www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07D2CG1TT/ref=as_li_qf_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=swankycatprod-20&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B07D2CG1TT&linkId=fd8846327eb8ab7fe2e234c99e46ce9d
SWANKY CAT ok thanks man it’s ordered!
Yeah new pistons and rings, should be like 120+psi .
Way cheaper to do a top end before somthing let's go.
Yeah true... wonder how long it'll last as is haha.
@@SwankyCatProductions honestly it could last years, all depends on how the pistons and wrist bearings are holding up. The real thing I would watch for is something that may cause a lean condition and due to the power power from lower compression it burns down.
Now you know. Was it in spec or low?
A tad low, I think spec is like 125.
Buy a 80s phazer beater sled for messing around
Have you seen the one Syxxes fixed up? Pretty sweet!
teste my 93 xlt 580 with 21000 miles on it still at 130 on all 3 cylinders
Wow that's awesome!
@@SwankyCatProductions yeah i was pretty shocked by it😅😅 kind of was scared to have a 50 psi cylinder
What's the compression range supposed to be for good compression? You never said.
110psi to 130psi is good
@@tommygleason238 I Agree with Tommy Gleason My 700 is 145 psi
I'm not sure what mine is specifically but I would go with what Tommy said. It was 125 when I got it.
Yes I will also help you out as I need a compression tester also
Put the link up and I will purchase
Oops sorry, here it is, thank you!!!

I’d rebuild.
I would too if I wasn't lazy haha. I'm hoping I can milk it the rest of the season yet.
I hear ya. I’d likely do the same.
@@SwankyCatProductions did it last the season lol
And yes, have the top end rebuilt.
I'm thinking more along the lines of selling it as is haha. I can't seem to find another sled I like though.
@@SwankyCatProductions I've heard the new indys are real nice.
The top end was obviously rebuilt right before you got it most top ends are only good for 5,000 miles max i wouldn’t trust the original pistons with that many miles on any 2 stroke even if it does still run it may still have good compression you’re not supposed to run pistons with that many miles on them. Now once you rebuild the top end for the third time the crank will most likely seize up shortly after you would be a lot better off to rebuild the whole engine with that many miles on it I wouldn’t even be riding that sled at all till it has a reliable engine no point in blowing it up and doing more damage than needed.
I've actually talked to a number of people who have gotten over 10k miles out of a stock motor. What exactly would the previous owner have had to gain from telling me it was never rebuilt? Seems a fresh rebuild would be a selling point... Lying and saying its all original when its not makes absolutely no sense.
SWANKY CAT a rebuilt top end isn’t a selling point for everyone that leads some people to believe that the top end blew and was replaced so the bottom will blow soon. And what makes no sense is trying to get 13,000 miles on a stock engine that’s just asking for it to blow up and cause unnecessary damage and be way more expensive to repair you obviously don’t know what preventative maintenance is
Ok bro.
Im at 1:00 of the video and im guessing 100psi :0)
Only like 110psi that not to good
So...was that in spec?
No... supposed to be about 125psi. Good enough for a few more miles though ha ha
@@SwankyCatProductions Ahh, yeah, not too shabby.
Your test is not good dude... You have to remove the other spark plug or your compression in the cylinder will not tell you if you have a problem or not... In other words you are bouncing on the other cylinders compression... Average compression for the liberty engines should be above 110 psi !
Yeah I realized that after I did it haha oh well. I might check it again but honestly if it gets me thorough this season I'll be happy.
@@SwankyCatProductions mineral oil is your friend
Wuuuut?
@@SwankyCatProductions to bump up compression in the cylinders mineral oil is thicker than synthetic !
110 is not good.
Not great no, but not bad for that many miles. Still runs so I'm happy haha.
