Perhaps a happy accident, but I love placement of the Colossus, looking straight at the Volcano. First, it continues using the Volcano as a vista point in the City, but also, the statue is that of Helios, the sun god, and Vulcan is the god of volcanos. In Ovid's Metamorphoses, Helios spied Venus cheating on Vulcan with Mars. Helios told Vulcan of the affair, who created a trap with a net of bronze so fine it was invisible to the eye, and literally caught Venus and Mars. I love the Colossus there, watching over Vulcan.
I'm not all of the way through this episode yet, but I wanted to say how much i enjoy these "little detailing" episodes. The jetty reminds me so much of similar spots in both Sydney and Brisbane (Australia).
I would love the development team of CS to add multiple entrance/exit points to a metro station - so that you could have it on every corner of a junction
This build (I guess, the last couple episodes) have been so engaging. Verde Beach is so rich in history and backstory, it's sometimes hard to believe it's not a real place. The jetty is really the culmination of that work to date; it shows off all of the things you (and, your viewers) have learned along the way. Always fortifying your builds with real world knowledge of city planning has made your channel so fantastic. Keep up the good work!
24:23, you should remove the hedges for every other gap so people can "theoretically move between sidewalk to the quay. I know cims don't actually do that, but IRL, I think it would be unreasonable for those on the sidewalk to basically need to walk half the pier to get to the quay. Or somehow jump the hedge.
32:26 The rocks and dark spots are fine and would likely be natural. Beaches such as this are normally maintained by the silt and rocks flowing from the river, which then erodes into sand by ocean waves. But the Hamilton Jetty prevents new silt deposits. So, the waves would just wash the sand away leaving bare rock and gravel. You can even show this effect by raising the sand on the other side as it would collect more silt.
Without regular dredging, the side of the Jetty facing the river would probably get a ton of sediment build up over-time from the flow of the river. Making the ocean on that side be very shallow compared to the other sides of it would be good. It would also be cool, probably, if the end of the pier by the Ferris wheel, the quay walls stopped and there was a gentle slop into the water making that be a small public beach, occasionally used for beach volleyball tournaments but usually just as a typical beach only with more amenities than the rest of the beaches in the city. Also, since it was constructed, I've thought it would be hilarious if the mascot of the Hamilton Experience/Jetty, were a pig... I know it not possible to change in Vanilla, but still. The Hamiltons made their fortune as farmers and meat-producers and one of their most popular products was "Hamilton Hams." lol
Great video, Phil. To get your landscaper in you to come out again, I think the "parks" you created in the Hamilton Jetty need some privacy from the main road. Maybe some bushes with a central cut-out might be fine. You can see these well at 40:32
28:55 Overcooked is great! I played both the first and the second one with my girlfriend and it is so much fun. 32:26 I think you can just eliminate those rocks and live with a little bit of brown by the quay wall. I don't think it looks that bad.
Cpp, first of all, i think i had a little heart attack when you started to talk about what this built means to you, it sounded like a recap for a fairwell, and i was not ready for it, i enjoy this build so much and it literally has a dedicated spot in my weekly schedule, it's amazing what you have achieved and the way that the city shaped up it's incredible. Second of all, when you rebuilt the beach path next to the balloons i think you forgot to use the one with trees on it. And last but not least, i hope you're well and have a great time irl as well
I think it would be nice if the green space in front of one of the left expo building wasn't blocked off by bushes and was accessible for people to hang out there on the grass.
yay! love this build. this is another aspect of the game that i struggle with: landscaping, along with terrain "respecting." As a result my cities will invariably end up with "chunky" neighbourhoods, as I get lazy and need population. in my youth, i would spend hours and hours on The Sims, doing interior design like it was a real house, and i didn't even care about interior design irl... irl, i care a lot about city planning and landscape design, so I should be spending my 11 hour Cities: Skylines sessions detailing... but it drives me nuts. it's critical to make a city that is worth looking at, tho. my gameplay is mostly focused on the efficiency of operations, and when I go for beautiful, i never really like what I do. i know that a factor in my gameplay, is that my computer sucks, no matter what i set the sensitivity to, I can't zoom smoothly. all my camera movements are very severe and I can easily lose where I was just working, when trying to get a better look... it makes doing extra detailing very frustrating.
27:08 I know you have a specific road type there, but switching road types adds in a crosswalk which could look good right in front of the boat museum if you get the node right
Oof, I've finally caught up with Verde Beach episodes. I basically binged through the playlist for the last couple weeks and I enjoyed the hell out of it! It's truly impressive how you've managed to create such a beautiful city with only vanilla assets. Also loving the history/lore, definitely adds to the immersion! I came across your channel with CWC series which is still my favourite CS series out there, but VB is a close second definitely. It did grow on me with every episode. Especially since the beginnings were sort of rough if you compare to how great you ended up making this city.
Oh gosh those Cruise Ships. I love it. Laughed so loud. I can only imagine the tour guide: "This path was created by the mighty Phil. Using docs is a thing of the past."
So pleased you saw my comment about adding benches back under the London Eye asset in the last episode, loved the detailing you made to the area. Now tourists can sit and pass the time while ferries line up to pile into them! Seriously though, definitely agree this particular build has been really fun to watch, especially knowing you are enjoying making this! Think this has been my favourite build of yours to date. Thanks for the content! Have a good day!
I agree with the landscaping, it is a nice cathartic thing to do. I played for 7 years and just do landscaping a few years back when I stumble upon your channel.
great episode as always ;) quick tip for rotating props: simply right clicking rotates objects by 90 degrees. so a double-click (180 degrees) is perfect for, say, placing benches at opposite ends of squares/parks. keep up the great work
The cruise ships have inspired me to comment, for the first time, about how I ended up falling out of my chair laughing. I love this channel, keep up the great work!
I love the paved area in the middle of traffic it seems like a great drop off/ pick up and meet up place for people using taxi/uber services to gather with friends and family to explore the jetty
Just a little thing, but rather than the "Hamilton Ski Show", how about "Hamilton Waterfront Showcase", or "Hamilton Waterfront"? Since it's a World's Fair they could do all kinds of shows there (ski, fireworks, choreographed shows, etc.). I had to pause the video when the second boat skipped the waiting line and went ashore....I was laughing so hard. Great video Phil!
I do enjoy this build along with Clearwater County for different reasons both you and Biffa have heavily influenced the way I build and they way I think to build. You are the reason that I detail more now and I have learned a new level of aestheticlly pleasing looks to my cities.
My favorite episodes are, like this one, those focused on detailing and beautification. One of the best parts of the game for me is designing spaces likes parks, campuses, and airports that are functional, at least semi realistic, and unique. Episodes like this help give me more ideas on things to incorporate into my own builds. I love the placement of the colossus. You may have other plans for them already but the jetty could also be a nice place for the floating gardens as gardens and greenery are a major part of Verde Beach and they would be something that the exposition could showcase in a unique way. Those small rocks are something I use a lot and in this case I personally prefer them to the brown, particularly on the beach so I would bring them down into the water, possibly adding a couple slightly larger ones in as well to mix it up if possible. I may be wrong as I typically play with a number of mods that could impact this, but I believe it wouldn't be too bad to just elevate the terrain enough so that it is above the waterline, wait for the water to clear, place the rocks, and then lower the terrain beneath the waterline so it can fill back in. Additionally, it's minor but I think it might be interesting to move the hot air balloon tours over slightly so it is closer to the Hamilton exposition and feel almost like an extension to it. It also would allow the terrain to slope towards the road a little more naturally. The asset looks like it's mostly tents and a simple fence, so I could imagine it wouldn't be too bad to move such a thing in real life, particularly since the owners could justify it as a way to make the balloons slightly more visible and reachable to tourists visiting the exposition. This would also allow the park gate onto the beach path to be directly adjacent to the intersection on ocean street and next to the crosswalks which is something I always like to do. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens with the island next time!
The Jetty is shaping up real nicely but I've felt like it's missing something and I finally realized what it needs is a proper fairgrounds. You have a couple parking lots and some courtyards but really not much space to set up temporary events such as fairs or music festivals. If it were up to me I'd remove the hotels from the jetty and add some tourist commercial areas in the main downtown area, which would encourage more people to visit some local attractions within the city that might be less touristic on their way to and from the jetty. Leave that northern wing of the jetty for a large park that's just an open field where you could set up stages for music festivals and such.
To fix the dark edge along the quay and beach you could extend the stepped quay all the way into the beach. Also absolutely loving this series, keep up the great work. : )
The plaza detailing is fantastic! Letting good be good enough really did round it all together without giving you a headache. The mirroring effect really does tie it all together.
I love this build, but I've loved them all. Honestly I think Verde Beach is my favorite of your series, I love how real and vibrant the place feels. And having it be mostly vanilla means I understand it and can figure out how to apply these principles to my own game to make what I make l build feel special too.
I really love the rocks! I think you should drain the water and extend them. Also, I think you should turn the hot air balloons tours so the long edge goes along the road (by putting a small access dirt road), because otherwise it’ll probably always be somewhat bumpy and ugly 😬
@32:30 you could use a water intake pump at/near that location to temporarily lower the water level, place your rocks, and then eliminate the pump. I think it would look better if the rocks extended into the water.
The jetty needs a lot more rock work on both sides where the sand meets the wall. This prevents erosion. Vary the boulder size and orientation. Start with the largest boulders and fill in around them with smaller ones.
Coming in months later, maybe the Hamilton jetty could use a taxi stand in some of those open areas, esp near the parking lots. Perfect spot for them. And don't know if you've used it yet, but one of the concert unique assets could go in some of the open areas in front of the other unique buildings.
Loving this series, I never miss a episode, It would be great to do a city tour episode and go over when everything, get close to the ground and just take in Verde beach vibes!. Nice pina colada whilst watching the city roll by 😅😅
I would love a first person camera view since early episode of VB. You put a lot of effort landscaping it, it must be very beautiful area to walk or drive😍. Beautiful VB as always, great work Phil!
I'm not exactly sure where your transit lines are in the area, but at 6:44 in the video you talk about an awkward area that could work really well as a type of expanded bus stop. It's right on a main road and close to the attractions.
I tried doing a pier like this and it ended up looking okayish.. haha loving the Verde Beach look and can't wait to see what you do in the next area! Cheers
Those cruise ships were very eager to visit the new Hamilton Experience! And I don't blame them, it looks like a great destination. (Though I think one of the hotels closed during the city tour.) Speaking of the cruise ship harbor, as a vanilla/console player I don't understand why some buildings have built-in roads and others don't. It would be way more flexible if they would remove the built-in roads.
good lord! that ship pile up made me laugh the loudest that I have in the last 2 years. Thank you CPP for that!!! although i don't know if you had anything to do with it😁😁😁
Shovels in the ground? Mining company? 👀 Also, maybe you should add a crashed cruise ship asset to commemorate the bumper ship disaster of 2077. That was hilarious!
It would make a lot of sense to add a festival area to Burning Palms, you could possibly put it inside the camping area and charge for people both entering the park and going to the festival
I do like the rocks because naturally the rocks Helps to prevent the water from washing out the beach it slows down erosion. Although the game doesn’t do the erosion but having rocks there makes that look like natural.
Phil, yanno cruise ships only beach themselves when they're absolutely stressed and unhealthy. And you're laughing. I can't believe it-- all jokes aside loved this episode! I'm playing Verde Beach catch up and it's been great.
Havent seen the previos episode, but the park plaza with the 'expansion' around it via the paths and bushes is so simple yet so genius, im gonna steal that idea if you dont mind :D
I think you could solve the commercial zoning not growing problem, by zoning residential in the middle (looked like the most valuable) and hotel on the water front in the outside. For the beach you may make it just longer. The boat museum might be more shallow. Merci.
You might find it inspirational (as I do) to check out Few Candy for some landscaping tips. I LOVE the way she uses plants in small spaces, and she's able to do it with a lot of variety. Lining every border with evenly spaced trees is definitely the easiest way to do it -- and the most appropriate a lot of the time -- but that's kinda what's happened in the entire city thus far. So some variety could go a long way, haha. Also, it seems like you've blocked pedestrian access to most of the little green spaces near the expo center, which seems weird. I know it doesn't matter for the game, but IRL those would be little areas I'd expect to see people sitting, reading, eating lunch, laying out, taking their dogs, etc., even though they're tiny. Regardless, great series! Been watching since Verde Beach ep. 1, and I'm always excited when you put a new video out. Great job, as always! 🙂
Phil has given Few Candy a few shout outs in the past. He's a fan of her work just as we are. I think the challenge we'll have in Verde Beach is that this is a vanilla play through with no mods.
I love the build! I remember when the Original Hamilton Experience opened, we had a fireworks show and got to bare witness to the true pomp and circumstance of the Experience. It would be nice to have a city tour with the fireworks. And two, where does the whole world market and exposition start and end? I think a cool asset would be some big sign signifying that you truly have entered the Hamilton Jetty.
As much as I adore this build, I really think the collosus is in a bad spot. It looks like due to the height of the buildings around it there are currently very few sightlines to see the collosus from a distance, and when you can see him you would only see his back, not his face. I think placing a different floating asset there (like the floating gardens or even moving the boat museum) would work better in that spot and achive the goal of raising the land value. I feel the collosus could be moved to the edge of the harbour district, and extending the pier around the bus terminal could to make space for the collosus would be a better option. This would allow for better sightlines of the collosus itself, and allow people from all over the main beaches of Verde Beach to see the collous's face. Plus those at the worlds fair would have a really awesome monument greeting them whenever they looked out at the verde skyline. Especially when on the wheel.
I respectfully disagree regarding the Colossus. While different, I feel like we can compare it to the once temporary Eiffel Tower in Paris. The Eiffel Tower was built for the 1889 Word's Fair and wasn't meant to be a staple landmark for generations to come. I feel like the Colossus statue is much the same :)
@@robsadler5605 See, I dont hate the collosus as an idea. I love the model and use it regularly in my own C:S builds/ Its the positionion of the collosus that makes me feel like its positioning is not as grandious as it could be. The eiffel tower was original criticised because it was so destincly visable all over paris. It literally towered over everything around it. Its somewhat the opposite problem here, instead of the collosus towering over the surrounding land as an awesome monument, its only really visable from a few destinct vantage points, and within those vantage points its hard to see its face unless youre on a boat. As I said, i feel this is a wasted oportunity for such an improtant and cool monument.
I still think a music Festival would suit the worlds fair very well, and given all the doomsday Events that happend in Verde Beach, why not make it Metal and call it the "Verde Apocalypse Dance" :D You could even make it an entire District around, i dont know, a gigantic meteor crater maybe ? ;)
I really think that there should be less palms or tall trees in the front of the exposition. It blocks the view of the buildings and the area with the paved parks. It feels like it is challanging to appriciate the buildings themselvs as would be expected from a worlds fare. Other then that, this whole area is so nice!
Hi! Fairly new here, having only recently discovered the channel after I picked up CS again two weeks ago! I got a new PC with very similar specs to yours, and it now runs like a dream! I enjoyed Tutoria and love Clearwater County, but this is my first 'dip' into Verde Beach! Loved the video, but thought I'd pipe up about the subway station placement on the Jetty lol It may make sense from an 'in-game aesthetic' PoV, but from a functionality, accessiblity and pedestrain safety PoV it doesn't really, because pedestrians going to or coming from the station have to cross several (more and likely) busy roads/intersections to get to the station. This would also disrupt vehicular traffic flow. A more 'sensible' location might be on the Exposition Centre side of the boulevard? Alternatively, a pedestrian bridge?
Can’t stop laughing at the Hamilton Jetty cruise ship pile up of 2077, where all the ship captains went a little loopy. 🤣
I stopped working just to stare lol

21:10 This is the best thing happened in the city. Not so best for the people on the ship and the rides.
20:56 the Hamilton Experience is so fun, the captains of the cruise ships couldn't wait to go there
I'm surprised Captain Schettino is still alive in the 22nd century
I'm not all of the way through this episode yet, but I wanted to say how much i enjoy these "little detailing" episodes. The jetty reminds me so much of similar spots in both Sydney and Brisbane (Australia).

That's a great idea!
The ships beaching is possibly the greatest CPP moment of history!
You should name the harbor at the Hamilton jetty Siempre Verde! 🚢
Nod to the evergreen ship! 🤣

And don't know if you've used it yet, but one of the concert unique assets could go in some of the open areas in front of the other unique buildings.
Thank you for releasing this video, I needed your voice. Depression is awful
Your laugh is contagious 😂
I don't even know what that pathfinding was but it was hilarious
34:56 i think its because the cobblestone roads are considered bridges to the game and thats why the entrance isnt working? maybe?
The Cruise attack was freaking funny hahahaha
Loving this series, I never miss a episode, It would be great to do a city tour episode and go over when everything, get close to the ground and just take in Verde beach vibes!. Nice pina colada whilst watching the city roll by 😅😅
I'll do that in a coming one!
The cruise ship pile up got some of the most genuine laughs out of me that a UA-cam video has failed to do for a while
I would love a first person camera view since early episode of VB.
Cheers
Gorgeous!
I would travel to Verde Beach just to visit this pier/jetty! 🌴🌴🌴
the boat museum is a little to high up, there’s a big drop to the boat out front!
"I don't know what is happening..." I cracked with those ships trying to go wrong way!
Those cruise ships were very eager to visit the new Hamilton Experience! And I don't blame them, it looks like a great destination. (Though I think one of the hotels closed during the city tour.)
Speaking of the cruise ship harbor, as a vanilla/console player I don't understand why some buildings have built-in roads and others don't. It would be way more flexible if they would remove the built-in roads.
good lord! that ship pile up made me laugh the loudest that I have in the last 2 years. Thank you CPP for that!!! although i don't know if you had anything to do with it😁😁😁
Honestly, I think the beached cruise ships were kinda cute XD
Thanks for the entertainment~
Thank you!! And thanks for the support!!
Gladly :-)
Good way to start the morning
Good way to go to bed for me in Australia hahahaha 🇦🇺
Good way to spend the afternoon for me in europe 🇪🇺
21:10
When the captain has had one too many drinks
Shovels in the ground? Mining company? 👀
Also, maybe you should add a crashed cruise ship asset to commemorate the bumper ship disaster of 2077. That was hilarious!
It would make a lot of sense to add a festival area to Burning Palms, you could possibly put it inside the camping area and charge for people both entering the park and going to the festival
I love all the detailing and focus on pedestrian feel in this episode! Great stuff
this is defo the best build ever so relaxing to watch it all come together
I think there would most definitely be firework shows at the water ski show. So maybe a barge out there would be appropriate
Excellent job, when the ships crashed into the pier I actually thought the jetty was over the path, does it always re-route like that?
Honestly, can we all just take a min and just appreciate the City Planner grooves?
Best episode ever
A Rolling Stones reference is always a 100% score
thanks for the trees between the edges of road and building tip too
I do like the rocks because naturally the rocks Helps to prevent the water from washing out the beach it slows down erosion. Although the game doesn’t do the erosion but having rocks there makes that look like natural.
Another great video. I really like that you keep things vanilla without the overuse of mods.
I was just thinking about my last post... I think it'd be very interesting to challenge Few Candy to do what she does but without any mods :)
I think it's used elsewhere but the city arch over the collector around where the quays begin may do this and be a nice addition.
Those cruise ships lol. They are offering the Hamilton XTREME XPERIENCE
Edit: do not drain the ocean water to put down some rocks pls
If anyone is curious. If you delete the road, then landscape. You can put the road back and the landscaping remains. Extremely handy on roundabouts.
I would love it if you could put a little segment in each episode where we follow a random Verde Beach resident
The cruise ship ride was amazing!
Just wanted to let you know you inspired me to pick up this game and I am absolutely love it. I will say you make it look a lot easier than it is.
28:55 that's so real. I often stop blinking when I play cities skylines and my eyes go red:(
I still think a music Festival would suit the worlds fair very well, and given all the doomsday Events that happend in Verde Beach, why not make it Metal and call it the "Verde Apocalypse Dance" :D You could even make it an entire District around, i dont know, a gigantic meteor crater maybe ? ;)
Those cruise ships running ashore really cracked me up.
I really think that there should be less palms or tall trees in the front of the exposition. It blocks the view of the buildings and the area with the paved parks. It feels like it is challanging to appriciate the buildings themselvs as would be expected from a worlds fare. Other then that, this whole area is so nice!
Love these episodes! Do you plan on playing cities vr?
Hi! Fairly new here, having only recently discovered the channel after I picked up CS again two weeks ago! I got a new PC with very similar specs to yours, and it now runs like a dream!
I enjoyed Tutoria and love Clearwater County, but this is my first 'dip' into Verde Beach! Loved the video, but thought I'd pipe up about the subway station placement on the Jetty lol
It may make sense from an 'in-game aesthetic' PoV, but from a functionality, accessiblity and pedestrain safety PoV it doesn't really, because pedestrians going to or coming from the station have to cross several (more and likely) busy roads/intersections to get to the station. This would also disrupt vehicular traffic flow.
A more 'sensible' location might be on the Exposition Centre side of the boulevard? Alternatively, a pedestrian bridge?
I stop blinking when watching you build Verde Beach!
Amazing episode! look forward to seeing the next one!
Although the aesthetics are key, I think the aesthetics of seeing people walk through the main gate give it a more lively feel to the area
CPP: Landscaping
Myrtle: Yes, kindling
my landscaping brings all the boys to the yard, like damn right, it's thicker than yours
