When speaking about Red Like Rose's Part II, you can dig into the lyrics and notice that much of it speaks about fairy tales and books. It's very dark and dreadful. However, if you remember in the show, Ruby says that Yang used to always read her bedtime stories and Ruby wanted to grow up just like the heroes in the books. But in the case of this song, those fairy tales don't end like they do in the books. However, you can make an educated guess that Ruby doesn't want to be a Huntress necessarily because of those books. Instead, the pain she suffered as she was little after losing her mother pushed her to create her own fairy tale with a happy ending, making sure that no one else has to suffer through the pain that she deals with every night. I have more I can add, but I'll stay away from spoilers, but there are a couple of lines here and there throughout the show that points to Ruby following the same path as Summer, but in a different way.
I'm not going to stay your wrong but we don't actually know for sure what happened to summer rose, they say she died in the show but we never learn any specifics and if I'm not mistaken they never even found a body, im pretty sure that grave on the cliff in the forever fall (i think thats the forest its in but I could be wrong) is just a headstone not a proper grave. So it'd be difficult for Ruby to go down the same path as a character that we don't actually know what happened to as of yet.
The foreshadowing in the songs is amazing, but also some songs in later volumes there are songs that reference or indirectly name drop previous songs, i hope you will catch them when you listen to them
Red Like Roses really needs to play as one whole piece for full appreciation.
And also for that goddamn transcendent guitar breakdown at the start of part 2.
Oh man, seeing music geeks reacting to RWBY music...I like it. I was a music geek, too. Obviously not as much as you guys, I only did band from 5th-12th grade...about 7 years. Did the trumpet, really enjoyed it. RWBY gets some good trumpet bits later down the line, too.

Yeah so the soundtrack realy adds to characters and foreshadows some stuff but there are some that are just there for fun like i burn which is just yang being well yang
So there is like atleast one rap section in a song each volume except v3 and has yet to be determined for v6 since we are still waiting on the ost to release

Also yeah wait till after v3 to do v2 and v3 soundtrack also use flyntofrwby for the lyric videos [he has ties to jeff so he gets perfect lyrics] especialy since 2 of his v2 ones have v3 spoilers which won't be spoilers if you watch them after v3 those spoilery lyric videos being sacrifice and all our days [also his art for the sacrifice lyric video does not represent the character that song is from but his lyrics are 100% correct] also forgot to add this but lamar hall does the rap sections

After seven volumes, Red Like Roses Part II is still my favorite song of the entire series.

I’ve watched many RWBY reactions and OST reactions, this was hands down my favorite one. In the past OST reactions have been a nice bonus but not something I necessarily looked forward to. I am definitely looking forward to your reactions for the rest of them!
Not gonna lie. SO MANY SONGS with Casey Lee make me tear up because you can feel the emotion and her voice is just amazing. The music in all of RWBY is beautiful and very artistic
Damn, this was really a nice reaction to the soundtrack, specially because we get to see how good or bad the songs really are from a musician's perspective, which is awesome.
Can't wait for you guys to get to the other volumes as well, since there is a gap of 1 year between each soundtrack, so by the time we get season 6 soundtrack in a month, she'd be around her 20's already. Can't wait to see how you guys will evaluate her growth!

Hey guys I know I'm a week late but just wanted to say I loved the review and didn't know if you guys knew that MANY of the songs of the Vol 1-3 were literally created with specific fight choreography in mind. Jeff and Monty worked hand in hand so that the major beats of the fight would match up with the major beats of the song. So many times when the song premiered in the show, that was literally all that was created at the time. THEN Jeff and Casey went back and finished the song afterwards for the soundtrack.
But yeah I enjoyed the review and hope you guys continue to enjoy both RWBY and it's amazing music!

One o hte other things to notice is that in itne future volumes certain of these songs do appear (and you did touch on this somewhat) as leimotifs or recurring musical references throughout the later volume OSTs.
"I May Fall" wasn't originally supposed to appear in V1 at all; it got used as the ending piece in one of the episodes in V1 inadvertently.
And yes, its Crowning Moment of Awesome is in Volume 3.
I really hope you do this level of breakdown with all the soundtracks. I'm really enjoying this.

A suggestion - when you do the Volume 2 and 3 soundtracks, do the remixes of the older songs. They are quite different and truly amazing. I particularly love Volume 3's slow version of Season 2's opening "Time to Say Goodbye." As musicians, I think you'll get more out of the remakes than most and I'd love to see your thoughts on the changes and how tonal/tempo shifts can make a song truly different.

Austin Yun that’s how perfect pitch works.. Hz is an instantaneous difference noticed rather than a timber change.. especially with everything else going on in the background. After all this is a first listen for him and as a musician there’s about 10 different things to listen for to comment on 🤷🏻♂️
Jeff lost a would-be nephew and wrote Wings in memory of him. When Monty died a couple years later, everyone latched onto that feeling with this song.
Fun Fact: at the time of Red Like Roses Pt. 1 was made when Casey was 14
What I find really neat is that years later, Casey Lee Williams recorded vocals for the parts that her mom sang on the Caleb Hyles cover of Red Like Roses. It came full circle :)
I really liked the analysis!! Because i dont know much about music and stuff, i just enjoy it haha
But on the other part…. im here like "no, no.... wait… you are losing an important line here! Listen/read the lyrics!" hahaha but yeah, im sure you guys understood them well enough, like some comments say, some of these really make sense later in the series, and some others are left to open interpretation even right now on V6, i swear i hear songs from the first Volumes and im like "this applies now…." but its nothing confirmed.
Also, my favorite of V1 is "I May Fall", mostly for the meaning of the song and.... it pumps me up!! xD
I think the dminor is primarily to do with Casey's range at the time, because it allows for her head and high chest voices to co-exist quite well, and allows for movement up without obstructing her voice in a way that starting in say eminor would as at 14/15 you couldn't ask for a chest voice belted a or b (after key changing)
Said this another new reactor's video, but the one thing that has been consistently good through all 6 existing volumes was the OST...the music and the LYRICS, especially. Compositions and completely unexpected rhymes with choice of words that just really puts most modern musicians to shame.

Alright, first ever video I watched and my inner musician (very tiny musician, year and a half in high school then two years in college but only vocally) very much enjoys the breakdowns in analysis in the video. And I LOVE the middle dude! I like all three of you but I LOVE that guy! Amusing, enjoyable, informative, analytical. Fantastic video.
It certainly helps that he has perfect pitch.
The Red like Roses when it gets to the instrumental makes me think of Spanish Roses.
Really cool and interesting breakdown of an OST that i am a HUGE fan of. I think Jeff and Casey are insanely talented and the music they inspire/create is some of my favorite in terms of a complete soundtrack. Cannot wait to see what the future holds for RWBY and its music!

Red Like Roses part II is so "f'ing" sad with the whole context. Made me tear up.
So Lindsay Jones, Ruby's voice actress, says that whenever she has to do an emotionally heavy scene in the show, she listens to this song before going into the recording booth to help her get into Ruby's headspace in that moment.
This was asked during "Wings", but yah they have done 2 live concerts at RTX. First in 2014 and then in 2018, and dude it was amazing both times! Lots of tears in 2018

I’m surprised no one brought up that I May Fall’s pre-chorus is, rhythmically, a dark parallel to Gold.
That sort of thing happens a lot.
Sacrifice’s pre-chorus later parallels the end of This Will Be The Day’s chorus.

In concert, they have performed at RTX a few times (the one I caught was fun), but don’t remember if Wings was on the playlist.
I swear she sometimes sounds like how Barb (Yang) would sing if Barb could sing, particularly in the Yellow trailer song.

you guys are spot on that the songs don't have to be rooted in what is currently happening. i just want to point out that red like roses 2 is more about taiyang and summer (ruby's dad/mom). i find it compelling that summer's part is sung by a man and taiyang's part by a woman.
the sacrifice trope is inverted (its usually the man dying for the woman), and the inverted lyrical roles convey that taiyang and summer can understand how the other person is feeling.
With the foreshadowing it’s shallow enough to be slightly confusing if it’s for future volumes and after you see what’s happening in future volumes you go back and listen and say oh wow this was foreshadowed here and I just totally missed it cause I wasn’t looking for it.
Ok so I never really listened to gold that carefully but it’s interesting it highlights the Fall just a bit, and isn’t to far from I will fall in the soundtrack also while yang picked ruby up in the past, in the future it’s not yang who picks us up. So it’s interesting it throws forwards and back within moments
Also pulled the on time you’ll fly lyrics from wings, I read this as yang, background motivation, and also directed at ruby and to a degree latter Blake
The reason he didn't notice when Casey's mom started singing was most likely due to his perfect pitch

She hasn't gotten over losing her mother, and the pain keeps her moving forward. But much like Jaune, there is a price to be paid for this single-mindedness. This song hints at that VERY strongly.
Season 1 Ruby is 15 the rest of the younger cast are late 17 or 18 years old, the Huntsman Academies are University level institutions, so if you are in the US Ruby skips High-school and goes strait to Collage.
You might think that Summer rose would be proud of her daughter.. But she stated in the song that she didn't want ruby to follow in her footsteps. To fight in vain... Against Salem

you guys were saying "for whats it worth" in reference to red like rose pt 2. I think its "pt 2" because the original red like roses was less of a character song and more of a trailer song to get people interested in the show. since red like roses was the first people had seen for rwby.

So obviously this doesn't matter much anymore but i wish they did the actual Red, White, Black, and Yellow trailers instead of just lyric versions because without the visuals there, the meanings of the songs are not there as much

I do not like Red like Roses, it is missing something because I have watched the Red trailer over 200 times. So when the song plays all the gunshots, footfalls in the snow, and the working of the bolt are not there and it really matters to me. just sayin'
I actually feel like Red Like Roses Pt 2 is a Yang song, not Ruby. There's a lot of anger in the daughter's lyrics, which is A) something Yang has had problems with, B) something i don't think we've ever seen out of Ruby, and C) I don't think Ruby was old enough to have many memories of Summer to get mad *about*
That volume 2 scene where Yang tells Blake about going to look for Summer - Ruby was *very* young - young enough that Yang brought her along in a wagon instead of walking with her, and it probably occurred once Taiyang was 100% certain she wasn't coming back, and who knows how long before that she'd left.
We know that Ruby is only 2 years younger, and like you said Yang was old enought to take care of her sister. So ruby has memories of her mother like when she use her special power. And one of the lyrics say " I wasn't dreaming when they told me you were gone", so when Taiyang and Yang said it to Ruby. And if this was Yang song i don't think she could say"You were the one I needed, and you left me" because Yang need to take care of Ruby, so she didn't only need Summer, maybe Raven but this song don't speak about Raven.

Not gonna lie From Shadows always felt the weakest to me out of all the trailers but that’s just me.
They said great Opening means great Season, for me my favorite Opening 1,2&3 also my favorite season 1,2&3. The rest of it you can tell the different. RWBY now is dying, for example toxic relationship, unfinished/injustice character development( Adam Taurus ) no emotional backstory. There are many video explain why RWBY now are dying.

@@SirsMadamsEntertainment I don't meant the show is dying and they will stop the show, what I meant that the problem in this show make it less interesting. That's why you should watch the video explained why RWBY are dying. There are tons of video like that explained about it. Even some of animator and staff of RWBY are quit because of toxic environment.
Most videos explaining things like that are done very polarized go get clicks with gotcha headlines .. they aren’t about constructive criticism. They latch onto anything that looks negative and amplify it to have content.
If only people would put that kind of effort and attention to things in the real world that need fixing instead of going to that effort for an animated show.

Also like, Volume 5 has my favorite opening. Volume 5 is my least favorite volume. Volume 6 has my least favorite opening, that volume is my favorite. You’re making generalizations that at their heart, are false.
