I actually tweeted Casey these guys reactions back when vol 1/2 ost reactions came out and she liked the tweet. No idea if she had been sent them before but I choose to believe it was me who connected them because it make me feel important and in the end.....thats what tweeting people is all about.
The Path to Isolation... I like what Bruce picked up on for Weiss songs. When Casey was reacting to Murder Of Birds reacting to an OST (volume 5 I think), Casey actually says that she sings Weiss songs in a different and unique way to all the other songs she sings.
Alex Abraham uses a program called Voxos to lay out the choral elements of the score. Even if you hear something that _sounds_ Latin, he's never actually used the language. It's just random syllables. That being said, "A Note From Ilia" is definitely one of my favorite score tracks from Volume 5. "I don't name 'em, but... sure!" HA! Well, I mean... Volume 3 saw him get more creative with his titles. Volume 5 was a bit... weird in that regard. All in all, this is so cool to watch and I wish I'd discovered you guys sooner! I absolutely adore the score for RWBY, so it's really interesting to hear you all talk about it.

In regards to what Matthew was saying at the start of All Things Must Die, that main melody is a combination of Cinder and Raven's themes. "Black out the sky" is Cinder's melody that we've heard all throughout the show, and "All things must die" is the main part of Raven's theme that was introduced in Volume 4 and was obviously used a lot in Volume 5.

haha loved all the editing when Matthew was going off his tangant! and ofcourse as alway love all the experience and knowledge you guys bring to the table with your music reactions, and it's also fun to see that Casey also appreciates it! Keep going at it guys, the next volume is a woozy and the soundtrack is another banger, with both some very classic RWBY style songs and some amazing genre departures. This was one of my favorite Soundtracks for many different reasons. Triumph: I loved the harmonies and how as you put it, it's much less crowded and more tight. I love how powerful it sounds. That even though our heroes have been through hardship, everything they went through, everything they lost is powering them, driving them to keep moving forward. Casey's voice in particular was amazing and it's great to hear how fat she's come. Also this had some fun lyrics like "Yeah I'm a girl but I'm also a gun" and "This is the moment, this is the day, this is the time and we came here to slay". Such a good intro. Ignite: I personally loved the integration of the Quote from the Yellow Trailer being integrated into this song, "Scathing eyes ask that we be symmetrical. One sided and easily processed. But every mishapen spark's unseen beauty is better than its would be judgement." And how it communicates that Yang is not going to conform to society and expectations that other people put on her, which is a good juxtaposition to Weiss and her song(s), since initially she was always forced to conform until she broke out of that and "shattered the mirror" and forged her own path. I absolutely love the horns and how they were integrated with the rock as well as the rap section of this song. It is one of the top 3 most diverse songs in my opinion and it just works. One of the best parts is the Rapping section with the horns going in tune with each line and keeping that energy until it transitions into the final verse for one more powerful push until the end. Path of Isolation: As you may know, this is essentially the starting point for all the Mirror Mirror songs. And there is a returning leimotif at the end, when it goes to "Mirror Mirror save me from the things I see. Who is staring back at me. A stranger from my mind has filled my heart." It's the same one from the second half of Mirror Mirror. There was so much in this song that adds even more to Weiss's character. It really makes you feel like you're lost in this fog and have no one. The line , "It starts with the unexpected loss of something dear. The warmth that comforted and cradled just disappears." We could assume based on Volume 5 that the loss of her Mother being present in her life and her becoming a recluse and an alcoholic is what created her being isolated and the Mirror. And it's really cool seeing or rather hearing where it all started and how different Weiss is now compared to how she was. Smile: This is one of my favorite songs in the series. And also one of the saddest. The beginning with drum beats, in my mind, signify Ilia's memories of her Parents. But after the beats stop and it transitions to a more rock song, I believe that's supposed to communicate that Ilia's parents died and her memory of them is slowly getting more and more corrupted as Adam and Sienna's influence slowly creep into her mind as she joins the White Fang. And it just gets darker and darker as the song progresses. The lines, "Pretending you're just like them. Live there like a Princess in the Kingdom of Selfish Men" and "You might think that they're changing. You'll pray that their hatred is waning. That's when it hurts most to find. The story unfolds. Their cruelties exposed. You'll be glad you're not their kind!" really hit me. I cried. This showed us more of what was going on in Illia's head and I'm really glad this song existed. And I'm also glad that Ilia got a second chance. All Things Must Die: Now this is an interesting song. It actually is from the perspective from both Raven and Cinder and uses leimotifs associated with both of them. The first 10 notes in the piano as well as "Black out the sky. All things must die" actually uses Cinder's theme that we hear alot in this serie. However after that in the lullaby section, we hear a leimotif that actually comes from Sacrifice, but without the bass and mostly just piano, and alot of people associated Sacrifice with Raven in the beginning of Volume 5 since she doesn't trust Ozpin and in the song they say how they won't be their sacrifice. What's interesting is how this song integrated leimotifs from both Sacrifice and Cinder's theme into All Things Must Die, as if they're proclaiming, or even promising, that the other person will die to eachother. A fitting track for a deathmatch between 2 Maidens. This Time: While this song in particular might not stand out for the reasons Matthew pointed out, I do a agree with Bruce on it being a very positive song and having a very positive message. To add onto that, if you listen to From Shadows and This Time which is From Shadows Part 2, it's actually amazing to see how the 2 songs and Blake as a character has evolved. From Shadows does have this underground Rick sorta feel but ends with this sad piano sound, which signified Blake leaving. However, This Time begins with that same Piano Melody from the end of From Shadows and transitions into this War track which also harkens back to her speech and her and the Faunus protecting Haven. I love how powerful and positive this song is and how it's a progression of Blake's character. From Shadows was very angry and vengeful but also sad. Which makes sense since it's from the perspective of Blake and Adam and how they'll take back their freedom, by force. But This Time says that we'll have freedom but not in the same way as From Shadows. The line "We turn the Spite to Love" was great since Blake said that to her Adam represents Spite in her mind. And to me it meant changing that Spite and repairing the damage that Adam did to the White Fang and the Faunus as a whole. I love this song. All That Matters: I personally like how this song that indicates that there's doubts in Yang's mind on whether or not she can trust Blake again after she left in Volume 3. But she's still willing to give her the chance. It's completely understandable. Their relationship was damaged, mainly because of Adam, but also for Blake leaving without telling Yang anything. And we've seen Blake deal with that and how Sun helped her realize that pushing people away to protect them is not the way to go and that pushing people away is "worse than any anything the bad guys could ever do to us." And it'll be interesting to see how or if this relationship does get repaired. I really like the instruments that were used in this song that sets the overall tone of the song. I don't think any other song, not even Home feels or sounds the same as All That Matters, which is really good. Gold Acoustic: it was very such a treat to hear this song again in a new way. And it really fits this Volume, because Yang cares so much for Ruby and would do anything for her. I loved how much Casey's vocals carried this song. It was just her voice and a guitar. And that's all we really needed. Score - Ilia's Letter: Honestly one of the better and more underrated themes, which also has the leimotif of Smile. I love the vocals in this score especially. Score - Mayday! Lancers: I agree with this song ending too fast and wanting more lol. For me, the parts with piano really gets me. I always just associate it with Weiss being a badass. The instrumental of This Life Is Mine in this score is absolutely my favorite part and I really wish they kept the transition into the last verse of This Life Is Mine in there, which was in the Chapter, but not in this score lol Anyways, thanks for yet another awesome reaction and analysis of this Soundtrack. And also sorry for this comment being way too long lol

LOVE That Score!! I've said it many times, I would LOVE to see a spin off show with Yang on a Motorcycle riding through Remnant like Clint Eastwood in the "Man with no name" movies!! You can title it "Armed and Ready"
A note from Ilia and Mayday made me realise how underappreciated the scores in RWBY are. Granted, the songs are much easier to find, hence most people will only listen to them, but the scores can bo so damn good too...
Like Bruce said, I'm in love lyrically with This Time. "But first blood must spill like the wine at a feast. The calm only comes once the carnage has ceased." Gets me every time.
All of the songs from all of the OSTs are my favorite and I love how you manage to just point out all the little bits and pieces that makes me love them. The lyrical creation is great as well. For example, in Ignite, Jeff references lines only seen at the Yellow Trailer created years and years ago. That's some attention to detail

I love weiss' progression just purely through the music not even the lyrics. She starts with a subtle almost rock sound but with piano almost aggressive with path to isolation. And then down to almost purely piano with mirror mirror pt 1, its my turn goes back to a sound much like path to isolation, then back down to almost purely piano with mirror mirror pt 2, and then this life is mine just is her whole progress in one song and turns to a nice rock sounding song showing she found her self no longer held dowm by her familys expectations of classical and slow and docile (hi i cant spell)

Smile is probably my favorite RWBY track of all time I don't know how to explain it, but the smooth transition from the soft beginning into the real meat of the song makes me shout at stuff. The meaning behind the lyrics sends quakes within my body. This Life is Mine is a close second since it also hits all the same points I feel when I listen to Smile but man, I really do sing along when this track plays.

Is there a term for how you can enjoy seeing others geek out over something you don't understand? 'Cause that's my experience with this. Anyway, from watching these reactions I get the impression that your relation to music is somewhat like what we programmers like to believe our relation to code is (but isn't, really): That it's something to be appreciated for its construction. You know, the old programmer smugness: Code should be read and only occasionally be executed. The only difference is that you're actually good at this while we are all just stone-age folks banging bones together, in comparison. So we all suck and nobody likes what anyone else does while y'all can appreciate recurring elements and draw comparisons from Sacre du Printemps to System of Down (IIRC from one of the other reactions) in a single argument.
So they may have said more on it after the song but “all that matters” was amazing and really dissonant to shippers I think. It was to me, because it’s amazing and beautiful and pulls on your heart but the scene at the end seemed like yang had forgiven I wouldn’t have expected her trust to be so broken. That broke my heart, I didn’t want the two of them to be broken and I wasn’t expecting yang to be. I thought her and weirdest talk had started the mending and her accepting her return had demented it to see yangs heart through this song and how much it had hurt her sucked.
@@kathryn2752 Don't worry about it, it's not exactly something someone not fairly active in the RWBY music community would know off the top of their heads. And don't get me wrong, Jeff usually does like to leave songsat least somewhat up to interpretation even when there's a specific character meant to be showcased. Sacrifice is probably the best example of it. At first we thought is was Cinder, then more info came up and most thought it was Salem, and now after V5&6 the general consensus is that it's meant to be a Raven song. We know that it was written for one character in particular, but there are enough overarching tones that we can't be 100% on which. And then there's songs like _Not Fall in Love With You_ . Most of the fanbase thinks of it and treats it as a blksn song when in reality it's a song Jeff wrote back in his boyband days that he just decided to toss in, or _All Our Days_ , which is a song from him to Casey.
God Empress Jaune yeah, but usually you can assume. But songs like Indomitable can’t really be tied to a show character, and yeah Sacrifice I think the general consensus is Raven but some still believe Salem
There's like 5 score tracks from the V6 OST that are REALLY good, but if you have to pair it down to 2, it needs to be Silver Eyes and Protecting Each Other. Honorable mentions for A Delicate Balance and The Apathy. Casey actually wrote a bit of A Delicate Balance I think.
All things must die is a duet between cinder and raven. Equally (tho in my personal opinion its more raven the cinder especially bc she won the fight) the slow parts make me think cinder, especially bc it sounds salem. The faster parts make me think raven. Much more harsh. They share a lot of opinions so its easy to make a song about both of them at the same time

45:20 Jeff is really good at matching the music to the character. He does the same with yang's super high energy music and Lusus Naturae in volume 4 being super all over the place. And with another song in volume 6 that I won't spoil.

I love how powerful and positive this song is and how it's a progression of Blake's character. From Shadows was very angry and vengeful but also sad. Which makes sense since it's from the perspective of Blake and Adam and how they'll take back their freedom, by force. But This Time says that we'll have freedom but not in the same way as From Shadows. The line "We turn the Spite to Love" was great since Blake said that to her Adam represents Spite in her mind. And to me it meant changing that Spite and repairing the damage that Adam did to the White Fang and the Faunus as a whole. I love this song.
All That Matters: I personally like how this song that indicates that there's doubts in Yang's mind on whether or not she can trust Blake again after she left in Volume 3. But she's still willing to give her the chance. It's completely understandable. Their relationship was damaged, mainly because of Adam, but also for Blake leaving without telling Yang anything. And we've seen Blake deal with that and how Sun helped her realize that pushing people away to protect them is not the way to go and that pushing people away is "worse than any anything the bad guys could ever do to us." And it'll be interesting to see how or if this relationship does get repaired.
I really like the instruments that were used in this song that sets the overall tone of the song. I don't think any other song, not even Home feels or sounds the same as All That Matters, which is really good.
Gold Acoustic: it was very such a treat to hear this song again in a new way. And it really fits this Volume, because Yang cares so much for Ruby and would do anything for her. I loved how much Casey's vocals carried this song. It was just her voice and a guitar. And that's all we really needed.
Score - Ilia's Letter: Honestly one of the better and more underrated themes, which also has the leimotif of Smile. I love the vocals in this score especially.
Score - Mayday! Lancers: I agree with this song ending too fast and wanting more lol.
For me, the parts with piano really gets me. I always just associate it with Weiss being a badass. The instrumental of This Life Is Mine in this score is absolutely my favorite part and I really wish they kept the transition into the last verse of This Life Is Mine in there, which was in the Chapter, but not in this score lol

I love weiss' progression just purely through the music not even the lyrics. She starts with a subtle almost rock sound but with piano almost aggressive with path to isolation. And then down to almost purely piano with mirror mirror pt 1, its my turn goes back to a sound much like path to isolation, then back down to almost purely piano with mirror mirror pt 2, and then this life is mine just is her whole progress in one song and turns to a nice rock sounding song showing she found her self no longer held dowm by her familys expectations of classical and slow and docile (hi i cant spell)
I think Yang has a real good amount of music attributed to her, it's part of what makes her and Weiss an amazing pair musically, see rwby vs fnki

I don't know how to explain it, but the smooth transition from the soft beginning into the real meat of the song makes me shout at stuff. The meaning behind the lyrics sends quakes within my body.
This Life is Mine is a close second since it also hits all the same points I feel when I listen to Smile but man, I really do sing along when this track plays.

Anyway, from watching these reactions I get the impression that your relation to music is somewhat like what we programmers like to believe our relation to code is (but isn't, really): That it's something to be appreciated for its construction. You know, the old programmer smugness: Code should be read and only occasionally be executed.
The only difference is that you're actually good at this while we are all just stone-age folks banging bones together, in comparison. So we all suck and nobody likes what anyone else does while y'all can appreciate recurring elements and draw comparisons from Sacre du Printemps to System of Down (IIRC from one of the other reactions) in a single argument.

So they may have said more on it after the song but “all that matters” was amazing and really dissonant to shippers I think. It was to me, because it’s amazing and beautiful and pulls on your heart but the scene at the end seemed like yang had forgiven I wouldn’t have expected her trust to be so broken. That broke my heart, I didn’t want the two of them to be broken and I wasn’t expecting yang to be. I thought her and weirdest talk had started the mending and her accepting her return had demented it to see yangs heart through this song and how much it had hurt her sucked.

@@kathryn2752 Don't worry about it, it's not exactly something someone not fairly active in the RWBY music community would know off the top of their heads. And don't get me wrong, Jeff usually does like to leave songsat least somewhat up to interpretation even when there's a specific character meant to be showcased. Sacrifice is probably the best example of it. At first we thought is was Cinder, then more info came up and most thought it was Salem, and now after V5&6 the general consensus is that it's meant to be a Raven song.
We know that it was written for one character in particular, but there are enough overarching tones that we can't be 100% on which. And then there's songs like _Not Fall in Love With You_ . Most of the fanbase thinks of it and treats it as a blksn song when in reality it's a song Jeff wrote back in his boyband days that he just decided to toss in, or _All Our Days_ , which is a song from him to Casey.

There's like 5 score tracks from the V6 OST that are REALLY good, but if you have to pair it down to 2, it needs to be Silver Eyes and Protecting Each Other. Honorable mentions for A Delicate Balance and The Apathy. Casey actually wrote a bit of A Delicate Balance I think.

Equally (tho in my personal opinion its more raven the cinder especially bc she won the fight) the slow parts make me think cinder, especially bc it sounds salem. The faster parts make me think raven. Much more harsh. They share a lot of opinions so its easy to make a song about both of them at the same time
