I have been a Barça fan for 40 years, when FCB signed Maradona, with whom I "fell in love" after seeing him play in the World Cup that was played in my country, Spain. And Messi's influence has been so great that after he left, I no longer find motivation to watch football matches. Of the more than 500 games that I have seen in the Messi era with Barcelona, only about 20 or 30 have not made me enjoy myself as a child.

Maradona had metal plates in his ankles from a leg break by these daily intense hard nosed tackles. Tactics in Maradonas era were also HIGHLY DEFENSIVE and Maradona played in the best league in the world. It was an era where all defenders in that generation had the intense dirty tackling of a Chiellini on steroids but the feet of a technical midfielder. There were many and I mean MANY legendary defenders with stunning technique back then. Now days, all defenders are just failed footballers to play at the back cause they are big and strong. Most defenders are morons in the modern game. In Maradonas era, top scorers would literally bang in a .5 ratio and be hailed as great scorers. Now a .5 scoring ratio is seen as mediocre.
Both Maradona and Messi are greats of their generations but Messi is playing FIFA on Professional Difficulty, Maradona was playing on Legendary. An era FULL of legendary players in almost all nations. Not this min maxed VAR friendly, yellow cards for just having the front couple of studs off the ground. The only difference is that Messi is playing against better athletes, but with way less football intelligence and dirty play to stop him. Football has been min/maxed and turned into an xG orientated game. Everyone watches every little detail to get an advantage and most players play like clones. This has led to a decline of creative players. This means defenders today face less actual unpredictability than in Maradonas time. This means it's easier for a defender today to get bamboozled by a player like Messi, who is around Maradonas level. If Maradona were around today, at his peak, he too would have all the same stats if not better. He also would have had less injuries, better fitness and most certainly not in the 80's culture of cocaine partying, which was stamped out of sport.
I do respect your decision/opinion and not taking sides, I personally (my opinion) kind of feel like Maradona had it harder than Messi had it. Maradona was also a way better leader in the dressing room, despite being erratic. That guy was a legendary captain with balls of steel. Messi...not so much.

watching the final yesterday was like watching a movie with the happy ending after a rollercoaster of emotions and twists. I´m so happy for him and for the people of Argentina. If Messi wanted the WC he could have gotten Spanish citizenship and been part of the great 2008-2012 Spanish team but he has always been a proud Argentinian and even after being harshly, brutally and unjustly criticized by many of his country men saying that he was a fraud, that he wasn't good enough to be with his national team and so many other criticisms, Messi was mentally and phytologically tough to keep on with the dream of winning the WC not only for himself, but the country he has always loved. Messi is definitely one of a kind in so many ways. The GOAT!

Great video mate. a truly remarkable tribute to this sensational human being. You know what is the saddest thing about this footage. That one day not too far, he will retire and we won´t able anymore to watch this genius playing football. Luckly his achievements will remain forever for future and past generations. I´m nor argentinian nor barca fan, but yesterday I cheered for him and Argentina as it were my country. Lineker said it right, it´s not only about statistics and goals, but how he scored many of his goals, and his passes are out of this world.
