He can't fly, so if he was in the wild, he might perish quickly. Idk about mating, providing for chicks and teaching them how to survive. Is that totally instinctual, or would he have learned that by his bird family, too?
My grandma nursed a raven back to health with her mother when she was little. He had a broken wing. He stayed for the winter and left in springtime fully healed. And as soon as the next winter came around, they suddenly heard a weird knocking on the window. Jakob was back to spend the winter in comfort with his human family. He repeated this every year.
Corvids are notoriously territorial it's no wonder he won't leave, even if he does, he'll always be back, and so will his children and generations to come. You have done a massive service to Bird-Human relations. Well done ma'am. :)
I started feeding birds a few years ago, got the usual blackbirds, tits, then nuthatches, a pair of coloured woodpeckers, with the jaybirds I started feeding tiny (frozen) pellets (1-2 grams, 2 each time) of minced meat. After about a year, it seems the jaybirds have moved on, about a 100 meters down the road. A pair of crows have taken over, it seems more or less just two. But last year they got a "child", very annoying, because it was constantly begging for food (even though just as big as its parents), and the voice of crows is really not the most beautiful. And this year there is another new one, almost as noisy.
Do Robins do that? We've had two nest on our front porch and I believe it's the same family building nest and getting all their worms from our yard. They leave in the Winter because we are in Michigan, but I wonder if the same Robin family comes back every year.
It's like having cats... They destroy the home, you have to completely plan your life around them (if you're a responsible pet parent), but you wouldn't have it any other way.
My grandpa had a pet crow when he was a teenager. One day, the crow got loose, so his mother went out to look for it. At one point, she saw some construction workers and stopped to ask the if they had seen a crow nearby. The construction workers laughed at her. But then a moment later, a crow came swooping down and landed on my great grandma's shoulder. She just said, "There you are." to the crow and left, leaving the construction workers speechless. I believe they had that crow for many years.
After moving into my flat 10 years ago I befriended a family of crows so 9 years and I've got their full trust their kids also sit on my shoulders as I feed them. One day I'm at work my ring doorbell alerts me to 2 lads trying to steal my motorbike but unfortunately for them the crows who I've fed for years began attacking these lads who had no choice but to give in. 😂🤣😂 I love how she reminds Walter that he’s a bird. It does sound like Walter is saying, “What?” a lot. What a beautiful friendship for a bird that may not have survived without some supportive humans around. ❤️
"He's a wild bird" Sure he is. He lives in your yard, wakes you up every morning, asks for pets, responds to voice commands, and hides from other members of his own species. Totally wild.
You can only consider an animal not to be wild when it's domesticated. Ravens haven't really been domesticated.. they're too intelligent for that. Pet isn't the right word. Companion might be.
What is this “at all costs” lazyass youtube echo.. If it’s between you and him I’d snap his cute little neck to save your life. Or do you prefer something else?
Are you aware that literally every bird species on earth not only deserves this level of love and respect but also they are all highly intelligent and capable of even more incredible things than what are seen in this video? please think about this beautiful gentle soul the next time you are eating a chicken sandwich, that chicken likely had the most miserable existence anyone can imagine, yet that chicken is no different to Walt the adorable star of this video, one day people will make the connection and we will cease to abuse these beautiful gentle souls
I'm torn, because I'd just let Walt inside, even if he's technically a wild bird, I don't think he'd be able to go back into the wild, he's pretty much domesticated at this point, and it almost feels like, borderline mean to ignore the poor thing when it's outside the window. You can wait all you like for him to grow up, but it sees you as it's mother now.
I feel the same. Walter will never be able to live out on his own, so why not let him free roam outside but come inside as well when he wants to. I wonder if it's a danger for Walter to come in and be around the husky, who she said doesn't like him...If that is the case, then I can understand why she makes him stay outside.
It was a damaged wild bird, and just because she works as a vet, doesn't mean she has a duty to adapt it into her home. But who else would, what was the alternative? Birds are a lot to handle if you live with one, it's a real commitment. So I think it's understandable that she tried to raise him into some kind of semi-wild crow. It seems ok for the bird imo.
I had a pet crow who I rescued when his nest got blown down in a storm. There were two others that didn't survive the fall, and the parents were not to be found. With help from the SPCA I learned how and what to feed him, and succeeded in raising him to maturity. Fortunately his troup knew where he was and came often to check out his progress. When he was old enough he flew off to join them, and that was that. Up to that point I'd rescued many lost and damaged birds, but the crow was different. He was far more intelligent and we had a far deeper connexion, right from the start. For the time that I had him he was very high-maintenance, but every second with him was worth it.
@@sroberts605 He chickened out from living with humans, yes. I used to leave peanuts for his troupe, and they came around till we moved. They used to follow me, silently, all the way up to the corner store and back. There's a way they behave around humans they trust that's very different from the "not nice to crows" variety.
He is so very sweet, we have Ravens here in the NE USA and they are so friendly and loving. They stay with you all winter like Guardian Angels. 7 am is about right, early birds they are, love them.

What an absolute sweetie Walter is. I've befriended a couple of ravens myself, they always wait outside the backyard door for food around noon. Very intelligent creatures
how do you do it? I have a few Jackdaws in my backyard that seem to enjoy the food we bring them but hate the fact that we're usually around when the food is there.
Ravens & Crows are one of the SMARTEST animals but most don't know this or care even! They can talk! ALL animals/birds etc. are smart if you watch them &/or spend time w/them! Side note Bees play for fun in their hives when not working so IMO its important to respect ALL life! Wonderful video! ❤❤❤
Lol @ Walt's mum saying "out of all things to bring me, he doesn't bring me any money " 😆 can't see NOBODY telling Walt's story but her , i was lol-ing from start to finish. Thank you GeoBeats for sharing Walt's story with us. Did brighten my day for sure. . .
He's stinking cute, adorable. There is NO WAY I could leave him outside. The minute he started pecking on the glass and looking at me, or singing, the word "sucker" appears across my forehead and in the house he's going :D
If Walter is a raven, then it might explain why your dog and he have such a good relationship. In the wild, wolves and ravens go hunting together, and the wolves even let the ravens play with the pups. Maybe it's hardwired into genetics. Or maybe they're just really nice. Idk.
It might actually be hard wired - both species were known to scavenge human remains after battles. So each might see the other as a sign that food is about
I raised two orphans years ago and ended up modifying a window so that they could get in the house without us having to let them in. It was 3 full years before they left here for the winter. But they would only be gone for a couple months and come back before winter was actually over. This went on for another decade. They were awesome!! Smart and funny and best friends with my 98 pound pitbull(big baby). I miss them💖

My brother raised a Crow and named him 'Cawsbee'---SO smart--and my brother built a large floor to ceiling cage so that Cawsbee could sleep at night safely with lots of room. My brother did release 'Cawsbee' in the nearby hills; I thought it was a kind but not safe as Cawsbee was a happy/noisy/bossy guy we all loved and he was free in the yard daily. He seemed to think we were his tribe. I always wondered how the rest of his life went...
This was adorable!! 🙂Thank you for being so kind to Walter. He might not technically be a pet, but I think he'd make a superb one. 🙂 Thank you for sharing this; Walt seems like a good guy.
Years ago, back in the 1970s, I met a fellow in North Central Florida who raised "Parakeets" (AKA Budgies) for a living. I was way into cage birds, back then, but this man's own pet bird was a crow that he'd rescued and hand raised. That bird was obviously as smart as any dog that I'd ever met. It was an amazing experience. Thanks for your lovely video.
Pheasants are reared locally and released to be shot. One moved into my garden 5yrs ago and stayed (lucky bird). He pecks at the back door in the morning for his breakfast - 8am - same time I get up, which is nice

He’s been brought into the family and doesn’t understand why he’s been left outside- he’s attached and wants to be with his family. Please continue to love and care for him. Always be kind ❤❤❤
Absolutely! They sound like he's just being a nuisance. I'd be happy to take over for them! I could've. Recently got a fledgling but the parents were getting upset, first clue. I wasn't sure if it was or not cuz to me it looked full grown, the feathers just looked too short which was my second clue. I put it back for the parents to take care of, figured they'd do a better job. Problem was, was that it's just hanging out on the ground, just makes me nervous cuz it can't protect itself.
What's funny about corvids is they're smart enough to know that they're a pain. This is not a wild animal trying survival tactics. This is a family member
I hope Walt finds a nice momma bird to have a bird family with. That would be hilarious to see a train of birds walking around the lawn outside. Hopefully the birds wouldn't permanently leave given that Walt probably will be grounded the rest of the way.
These birds are very smart. I made friends with one several jobs ago. Our parking lot was next to a field. He or she would see me coming out of the building around noon everyday and fly over to my car and wait for me. I'd spend a moment talking to it.. telling it how beautiful they were, talking about my day...then we'd go our separate ways till next time 🐦⬛
I love your presentation of Walt & Mouse❣You are his family & Walt is a lucky & also smart boy. Thank you for adapting Walt though you didn't know he'll stay forever ❣🐾❣🐾
What a mess. They tie up to being caretakers (can u go on vacation?) The bird wakes them up every morning but they can't have him in the house (too much crap then all around, he is not going to use the bathroom). Too big bird for a cage. So he roams around the house and wakes them up every morning at 6'45... I would not enjoy that :) Sometimes better to leave nature to itself. A dying bird is a meal for the puppies of a fox mother.
What would you do about Walter in this situation?
What _can_ you do? He's clearly chosen where he wants to be. Just have to accept it and love him.
He can't fly, so if he was in the wild, he might perish quickly. Idk about mating, providing for chicks and teaching them how to survive. Is that totally instinctual, or would he have learned that by his bird family, too?
I'd let him stay since he shows no signs of social endeavor towards other birds and is not really able to fly that far (i assume)
I'd let him choose where he wants to live ❤❤❤
I would keep him and love him for as long as I was able. He's so cool and sweet.

@@metube6299 you can recognize their communication patterns which bird calls is only a part of. The extent to which we can replicate their language is very limited. and "...would end with our car surrounded with birds..." sounds like a bunch of hungry food promised birds.
Ravens are smarter than most people think. Give them baby toys or puzzles where they would find food and they'll quickly learn. They can also mimic words.
And they can use tools for both finding food as well as protection, as well as recognizing human faces. Very smart
very Smart mine drives me around in my car like a Shauffeur.
iq of 90 probably i forgot
This is a crow not a raven
I know they use tools to perform fairly complex tasks. I seen one take a cracker and use it to catch a fish.
"you call yourselves a dog? you don't even have wings!" - Walter probably.
Walt is just precious! And that dog he hangs with, looks like he stepped from the walls of an Egyptian tomb! Just gorgeous. Looks just like Anubis! 🥰
I wanted to comment about this dog when I saw your comment. He might be a pharaondog, they are pretty rare
@@shadowhund Didn't you hear her: IT'S A MOUSE! LmMFaO!!! ;) :P :o)

@@NewFrontier17 a podenco is different from a pharaondog. I had the pleasure to know both..... Pharao and podenco
😂🤣😂 I love how she reminds Walter that he’s a bird. It does sound like Walter is saying, “What?” a lot. What a beautiful friendship for a bird that may not have survived without some supportive humans around. ❤️
I thought he was saying “Walt” when they say “Walter?!” He tries to mimic them and says “ Walt” he can’t get the “er”
he says 'woof'
Yeah, I caught the "What?" thing, too! This was so funny, and the name Walter suits him very well. Hahaha!
"He's a wild bird"
Sure he is.
Companion might be.
as Dominic would say, He's family.
Neither have cats been domesticated so your last two sentences apply to cats also@@VixxiRaven
The concept of a pet is completely made up by humans, the reality is these non-animals are adopted family members
I think it’s because it’s illegal to own them as pets. They might be using that language to not get legal problems.
Waltuh.
Put your leaf away Waltuh.
I’m not playing fetch with you right now Waltuh
“What?!”

"He's technically not a pet"
Now you just need to get _him_ to agree with that statement.
"He wants to come in the house. YOU'RE A BIRD!"
Priceless haha. I know she sounds annoyed but you can tell she wouldn't have it any other way.
There are such wonderful people out there. That take care of animals in need. Bless all of you people.
He needs to be kept and protected at all costs! He’s a special bird that must be cherished ❤
Thank you; I feel the same. Family is a group with a strong, positive bond: human(s) + animals. I think Walt is a family member. He's so precious.
What is this “at all costs” lazyass youtube echo.. If it’s between you and him I’d snap his cute little neck to save your life. Or do you prefer something else?
Are you aware that literally every bird species on earth not only deserves this level of love and respect but also they are all highly intelligent and capable of even more incredible things than what are seen in this video?
please think about this beautiful gentle soul the next time you are eating a chicken sandwich, that chicken likely had the most miserable existence anyone can imagine, yet that chicken is no different to Walt the adorable star of this video, one day people will make the connection and we will cease to abuse these beautiful gentle souls
go walt!
@@sum1majik598 How is that the same tho? That is like saying if you eat a salad you steal food from herbivores.
Yeh, not happy with this veterinarian's treatment of him.
She raised him in the house, does she think he realizes that he should live outside, No, he doesn't'.
Yeah 😭
Crows and Ravens are super smart birds. It’s fantastic that you took care of him and he has a place to come home to.👍👍🇨🇦
"technically not a pet" haha this is 100% for legal reasons only. He's awesome and you guys did an amazing job.
" . . . he's technically not a pet. He's just an annoying wild bird." Spoken with love.
But he _identifies" as a dog. 😃🐕
@@originalismisacrock166 Let's enter the "dog" in the Iditarod sled race in Alaska. Who knows, he may like it.
He rules
Amazing. Did he leave cold turkey (so to speak), never came back?
@@sroberts605 He chickened out from living with humans, yes. I used to leave peanuts for his troupe, and they came around till we moved. They used to follow me, silently, all the way up to the corner store and back. There's a way they behave around humans they trust that's very different from the "not nice to crows" variety.
Thats a beautiful story. You are blessed . Thank you in their behalf, you're a good soul .
I love Ravens....GOD BLESS these people for adopting these beautiful animals!!
He is so very sweet, we have Ravens here in the NE USA and they are so friendly and loving. They stay with you all winter like Guardian Angels. 7 am is about right, early birds they are, love them.
he is a pet when you let him in the house, and you love him because he crawled into your heart. Ty for taking care of him he is adorable, this is a real precious story
Nice pun 😊
It is amazing how intelligent Crows and Ravens are and how easily they learn to mimic people’s voices. They are also little thieves!
"You're a bird Waltah, you can't act like a dog and cook meth in our back yard Waltah."
I've never been able to befriend any of my local ravens but they do respond to noises that I make with their own unique response noises.
Walt has the best of both worlds. Outside and inside. What a sweet life to have an outside pet! He is a cutie pie! Enjoy + love him!
That is one of the cutest stories I have ever seen! Is it me, or every time she called his name, he answered with "WHAT"? It was hilarious 😂.
Vegan for the Animals ❤❤❤
All life is precious.
Apparently bees dream as well! Go bees!!
I know there Smart one told me He was Smart.
Most birds are literally dumber than worms lmao
Idk.
That's interesting. Thanks for that.
@user-ye4bu6xh4c Canines are also very messy eaters ,so the crows follow them for all the tasty scavenging
Could work but this is an Australian Raven.
@Middleseed easy to identify an Australian Raven... they say Good on ya Mate Alot
It might actually be hard wired - both species were known to scavenge human remains after battles. So each might see the other as a sign that food is about
For some reason I really love the name Walter for him.
He has such intelligent eyes. He is truly a pretty bird and an unexpected blessing.
That "bruh" after "in the morning" 2:30 is gold😆

Walter is so precious! And your Pharoah hound is gorgeous!
This is the FIRST time I've ever seen a raven playing tug of war with a dog (and winning too)!

They actually play fetch in the wild with wolves
Thank you for caring for him ❤🥰
Walt makes a great story, but his momma has one helluva a sense of humor. A pair made in heaven.
I miss them💖
Yes, Walt is a wonderful addition to your family. A bit of a pain but what he gives in return is priceless. And of course, Walt lucked- out having you as his care-giver benefactior . A win/win . 👍❤️
Walt is adorable, and Walt's mum is hilarious. One of the most engaging narrations I've heard in ages. 🤣
Walt is awesome! Thanks for taking care of him.
Love the raven, he’s a character! But can we take a moment to admire how beautiful that dog is!

"You're terrible guard dog."
"Ah!"
This bird I'm in love with.
He's terrific!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you, Ma'am.
he was dying and you saved him. He is in awe of you
Years ago, back in the 1970s, I met a fellow in North Central Florida who raised "Parakeets" (AKA Budgies) for a living.
Sounds like an awesome companion. Ravens are extremely smart animals.
Walter is COOL! Both the bird and the humans are Blessed with such a special and rare relationship! Crows and Ravens are VERY smart!

Ravens make wonderful mates they really do. They are highly intelligent. Just love them. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
He’s been brought into the family and doesn’t understand why he’s been left outside- he’s attached and wants to be with his family. Please continue to love and care for him. Always be kind ❤❤❤
YES!
Whenever she calls his name, it totally sounds like he is saying "what?"
Lovely he is amazing.
He's not really wild anymore. He bonded to humans and a dog. I think you handled it great though. Great story.
I love that Walter is spoken to like the curious, intelligent being he has become with the care you have given him!
That was cool,, God bless your heart 🙏💐💒👍
You raised him on the house. LET HIM IN THE HOUSE!
Poor guy just wants to be a part of your “kindness”.
What's funny about corvids is they're smart enough to know that they're a pain. This is not a wild animal trying survival tactics. This is a family member
They sometimes get really smug about it too. Just to annoy you for a while as a prank, but then tries placating you by acting cute and cuddly later.
She's got a great sense of humor, so freaking funny and sweet.
Walt really zeroed in on the “AH” part of his name and made it his whole voice. What a good birb.
What an honor to have a friend like that. Well done, Doctor!

These birds are very smart. I made friends with one several jobs ago. Our parking lot was next to a field. He or she would see me coming out of the building around noon everyday and fly over to my car and wait for me. I'd spend a moment talking to it.. telling it how beautiful they were, talking about my day...then we'd go our separate ways till next time 🐦⬛
I swear I heard him say "get up" through the window!! 😂
I love your presentation of Walt & Mouse❣You are his family & Walt is a lucky & also smart boy. Thank you for adapting Walt though you didn't know he'll stay forever ❣🐾❣🐾
Hes so adorable he considers u his mom and family
Well clearly he doesn't want to leave. He feels happy, safe and content with you guys.
I would not enjoy that :)
Sometimes better to leave nature to itself.
A dying bird is a meal for the puppies of a fox mother.
