My favorite youtube channel because it's just this guy taking Blair Witch-style videos of himself slowly being driven insane by his pet raven. Every update he becomes more slightly unhinged, and S A M grows in power.
I had a pet crow for 25 years. He was extremely intelligent and kept us all laughing at his antics. He used to walk (more like hop) with us to school and then fly home when we went inside. He had a few words he had picked up that he would repeat often. He also had a really funny laugh that he learned from an in-law. He would sit on my mom's shoulders and she would hand feed him. I really think he believed she was his mate. He was such a character, the local newspaper even wrote about him. He was a lot of fun but I would not do it again because it was such a huge responsibility.
so having a male raven is basically like having a roommate where you can hang out and have fun together but not get too touchy-touchy or else it becomes gay and uncomfortable

@@CollectedEve crows or ravens, not sure which, most def steal eggs from nests, even baby chicks. I see them all the time attacking in trees, and the birds are attacking them back trying to defend their nests. I always try to scare them off when I see them near where I know there are nests /babies.

I was horrified when I saw a Toucan do this once in the wild. At first I just assumed it was trying to get a bug or something, but it was a small bird & people in the area said it was common for them to raid smaller birds' nests for eggs or chicks. 😨
Beautiful bird. I nursed a crow back to health back in the 80's. After he finally left the yard he would come by every couple days and drop off coins, nails, bits of copper and even a watch one time. lol. They're wicked smart.

I'm trying so hard to get them to come to my yard. I hear the little shits, I know they're in the woods and like right next to my property but I need them HERE in my life rn. I have rehabilitated and worked with so many different birds, from pelicans to bluejays and even have a friendly screech owl who roosts with my chickens at night, but never gotten to know a crow.

I’m glad you put this info out. Having an intelligent bird, parrot, corvid, whatever, is like having a permanent 8-year old that you can’t drop off at the grandparents’ or daycare when you need a break.
I’ve owned and raised parrots, with the help of my parents, as a teen; if you work a full schedule, have school, or are otherwise unavailable for large parts of the day, you need to have other individuals available to help care for the bird, especially a young bird.
If you’re like me and aren’t able to take up this kind of commitment but still love corvids, just befriend your local murder. Give them peanuts (unsalted), eggs, leftover gizzards, etc., they’ll eventually come to think of you as a friend and visit you where you can admire them naturally.
Listen to the video and don’t get a raven, crow, magpie, or any other corvid, get a hermit crab and see if you can handle that first.
Sam is totally mimicking you while you talk- hilarious. I've been trying to befriend the crows near my house. It's taking a couple years for them to notice me. Now they watch me and send scouts to spy on me. They are so smart.

Yes! I love them. They are shockingly smart. There is a lone crow that hangs out around my house and he always comes walking around in the yard around the same time every day. He knows he will get food and I've only seen him for about a month now, but he's pretty trusting already

@@neophytetheprodigy2187 Eductaed guess here, but human nails don't grow back either if they are ripped out completely. I don't know about ravens, but a parrot's beak grows constantly (that's why they love to chew on stuff), so if you'd only cut off a bit it should grow back. Sometimes when a parrot's beak grows too long you even have to trim it.
Back To Form a bald eagles upper beak got shot off by illegal hunting and it couldn’t grow back so they had to try and make it a prosthetic beak. I’m guessing no if more than a centimeter from the tip is taken off it can not be grown back, chickens get debeaked all the time as chicks to stop pecking others and they never grow back.
I didn’t fully grasp that until the 20th time he told us.
