Sailing Supernova ⛵
I found this channel from your first Coco video. I wonder how many other people found it the same way. I've been binge watching from back to the beginning of your videos. The one thing I have learned is, boat really does stand for,
Break
Out
Another
Thousand.
Yea we have had tons of things break, but we save a ton by fixing them ourselves :-)
Hope you are enjoying the older videos, the Alaska ones are our favorites :-)
Rescuing Coco, won my subscription. If you love a cat you are forever my friend.
:-) Thanks heaps :-)
Yall, I feel so fortunate to have run across y'all's feed with the very first video being when you found coconut!🐱🥥 You both have such amazing smiles and personalities and obviously kind and generous hearts. I can't wait to go back and watch previous episodes of your adventures. Thank you for showing so much grace and love. 🙂🙏🏻❤⛵️🐱
Thanks heaps! We have some really good old videos from Alaska. We hope you like them :-)
It's quite amazing what 2 people can do together. You're both an inspiration and now a family of 3 😸
Coconut is looking so much healthier, and she's gotten very comfortable with her new family.
Be safe and keep on posting 💌
Thanks heaps for the kind words :-)
Coco has come such a long way since you rescued her from the Island :) Safe Travels
She sure has! still has a bit to go but she will get there :-)
Coco has made a remarkable improvement. Wishing you and Coco many wonderful adventures.
Thanks heaps for the well wishes, I just gave Coconut a nose boop for you :-)
Coco is my all time favourite sailing captain! I love to see her interacting with you two and she is so cute and obviously very smart!
We love having her around. she always wants to hang out and see what we are doing, she always hangs out with us we we are doing boat work, even when using power tools.
She is our favorite captain to :-)
Captain Coco ❤
That's great, D & Y! Fantastic upgrade. Also, I'm very happy to see Coco ❤! Just thinking if you had named her something beginning with "I," you could call yourselves "DIY," which is apropos, hahaha. Congrats on passing 15k subscribers!!! Seems like just yesterday we were waiting on 10k! You're catching on and deserve it!!!! I love your channel and always look forward to seeing your next project and adventure. Love to you all ❤ Lauren!
That would have been a great name! DCY just doesn't really represent who we are haha.
Super happy you are liking the videos :-)
Can you guys show more clips of Coco??, you guys are doing a great job, happy travels.
Sorry for the late replay, we are trying to make sure Coconut gets some screen time, its getting much easier as she just follows us around all the time now haha :-)
Coco looks amazing! And very cute!
She is such a cutie :-) and she is doing very well. still a bit to go but she is going to make it :-)
Such a cute coco. You guys are great rescuing her and adding her to your lives ❤
She has been a great part of our boat life so far !
Coconut looks so happy and content 😻❤ Nugget and Spazzy send their love and sealegs!!! Just a old dude from Pender Harbour BC ☮️😎👍
Yea she is doing great, her only job is to cuddle and eat, and she is doing great at both haha
31:10 You need a centre drill in that drill and HSS drills for steel is fine for fibreglass. It will just go dull sooner, but for your needs its ok.
Drill the centre hole first for steering, then use the big drill :)
Also not a lot of glue/silicon stick to coated fibreglass or plastic, so hope the stuff you used was made for it.
Ps: Coming from a former fibreglass professional ;)
Thanks for the Advice! The stuff we used was made for it fiberglass so we should be good there :-)
Coconut has a meerkat tail😂
Haha she totally does!
I love your new intro. I think you’ll get more subscribers. I think the two of you rock and have accomplished so much in a short amount of time. So happy to see your family growing. Glad Coco is healing well. She looks so happy now.
Thanks heaps, you don't want to know how long it took us to make that haha. but we set it up so it should be easy to change up every few weeks :-)
We are happy you are still enjoying the videos :-)
Coco looks so happy now that he's got a great home.
And we are very happy to have her :-)
Coco is a she...hence Pink princess bed
:-)
Over 1 million views for this years UA-cam vids of your travels from Alaska to Panama, well done, looking forward to your next adventures 🎉 👏💖
We can't believe it!! This is so crazy. We have been so lucky to get to share our videos for the past 10 months :-)
Your initiative to install solar panels and a large dish on your 1986 Catamaran, as seen in Episode 46, is truly commendable! Your commitment to sustainable living and enhancing your vessel is inspiring. And I am Floating Village Life, admiring your innovative approach to maritime sustainability.
Thanks heaps, your floating village looks super cool.
We are planning to put some more solar panels up in the next 3 months
@@sailing.supernova Solar batteries will be very effective, please try it!
We have lots we just want a bit more :-)
Next time please please please please use self tapping screws and then place silicone over to waterproof. Big holes equals big problems. Love you guys
We will give this a shot next time, We still have some more solar to put up :-)
Lovely little cat.
Yes ... both the puss kitten and the larger Prout 😊
Off Panama? Where bound?
Any regrets on the Prout? Have you done a full walk through?
Thanks heaps,
We have not done a full tour yet, but its on our list of things to do.
We are most likely going to stick around san blas for a couple of months before making our way to the eastern Caribbean :-)
Brian is wonderful!! Everyone needs a Brian!! Good jobs this week, Coconut must be very proud!
Everyone needs a brain for sure! he is the best :-)
Came across your channel with the castaway video. You were meant to go to that island 🏝️ So happy for Coco that she was lucky you guys found her! I’m just binge watching all your videos, sending safe travels from England 🏴
We are super happy you are enjoying the videos.
Coconut is such a little cutie! she is eating lots and just wants to cuddle all day :-)
happy to see the cat in healty conditios respeckt
Coco is doing great. She had her first sail today and it went very well.
My cat would do the same thing when she got really hot and start rapidly breathing, even opening her mouth, the vets checked her for a heart issue but her heart was all good. I recently linked certain medication she has to warning her up for a time soon after she has it. I would also put her in front of a fan or absolutely freeze myself in the winter by blasting us with a fan as she wanted to sit on me and cuddle but she was boiling hot bless. I hope little Coco gets better soon! You two are doing amazing at saving her life, thank you. ❤
(My cat was also abandoned and living as a stray, she walked into my garden to be fed, took me a long time to get her trust but she’s the most loving cat I’ve ever known. We took her to the vets because I was so worried about her rapid breathing, she got scanned for a chip and they found one, I was devastated but the vets rang her previous owners and found out she had been sent from her first owner to a second owner who had a big dog that she was scared of and “never fit in” and sounds like she ran away and came to me I was just down the road. The previous owners were happy for us to adopt her and take care of her many medical needs.) she’s 12 years old and living the most happy retirement she deserves now, travelling around the house on my shoulder lol)
She is now off most of her meds and is doing better, the AC has also been helping out a lot with her panting, Thank you for saving your kitty! seems like your heart points the same way ours does :-)
Crazy that your cat had a chip and the old owners didn't want her, she was meant to be with you!
Omg I love this channel!!!
Thanks heaps, Super happy you are enjoying the videos :-)
When mixing epoxy you gotta do it slow. if you do it to fast it messes it up and you add a lot of bubbles.
Ill try and find some of the slow hardener we just had the fast stuff from up in Canada
Alright you had me with the first coconut video. Now my wife and I are hooked.
haha good to hear!
Some of are best videos are when we first started and were sailing up to and around Alaska! if you have a chance you should check them out :-)
@@sailing.supernova I just may do that. Happy trails.
Great job on the solar panels so far, not to mention the laundry. Coconut looks great and I'm sure you'll all benefit from the air-conditioning being run more often.
For those who don't know helicoils are like little spiral springs that are designed to act as threads for bolts to lock into. They come in all the set sizes and screw into wood, metal, plastic or fibreglass. Often used by mechanics when the threads in an aluminium part are stripped to allow the bolt intended to go in the hole to be able to be tightened.
Now why couldn't Darcy just say that on camera haha, That is a great explanation :-)
Thank for your reply Yvette, I feel a lot better now. Give Darcy some vegemite on toast and then he really won't understand us Aussies.
He knows about Vegemite so i can't trick him with that.... I know because I tried haha
Love seeing Brian using the printer.
Yea he was amazing! He did so much to help us! he is such a great friend :-)
Great.
No need for a turnbuckle. Just use the rope and lashing and hitch knot. 😉
Yea that would have worked, We are still very new at all this so thanks for the advice :-)
Hi there, I get nervous drilling holes in boats 😮 A Quasar just came on the market in Pensacola. It needs a refit. If I was a bit younger, I would go for it.
Coconut is looking good, she was a good rescue 😊
Please get South before the storms come. We lost a 1/2 boat to hurricane Hugo. She was on the hard at Nelsons dockyards, a dozen or so boats were blown over domino style. Ours was in the middle of the pile. That was the last monohull I was involved in.
Cuddles to Coconut.
We are planning to get south, we have to wait on stuff for Coconut before we can go to a new country, should have everything we need in 3 weeks or so.
If someone gets that boat they are going to get a good boat after putting in some work
To remove adhesive get a product called sticky remover, it will wipe off. It’s amazing.
We will look for some of this! Thanks for the advice :-)
Inspirational and fun , well done guys
🎉❤xxx
Thanks heaps :-)
Princess Coco looks pretty smitten with that SuperSolarNova aircon, wow, how many solar panels have you got now and how many KWH on a good day are you getting. 💖 see ye next Friday
we have 14 panels up, still have to hook some up to the battery so we are not sure on the numbers yet :-)
I see you have Ryobi 18 volt tools. Pick up a Ryobi 18 volt caulk gun. It is lays a very controllable bead and I think you will use it a lot and love it.
We have to toss some tools before we get new ones haha but we will keep this in mind :-)
Coco is our Hero
Coconut is such a little fighter :-)
It amazes me that you can make all those parts with a 3D printer how cool is that. You're very lucky to have a great friend like Brian. You're getting a lot of projects done, now soon time to a break for you 2. Coconut looks amazing what a spoiled little snit. Get yourselves some down time n chi-lax a bit. Till next week stay safe and God bless
Brain is so great! we want a 3d printer so bad now haha
Ahoy sailors, I am missing being at sea, 1993 was my last time, onboard HMS ARK ROYAL. Love what you are doing, I wish I was doing the same, but I am a Disabled War Veteran Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm. Ships cat good save, the RN used to have ships cats. Fair weather and good sailing. Michael.
Well thank you for your service. We will be sailing the whole world so when we are in a place that you want to see feel free to check out the videos :-)
It wasn't really a ship till we got a ships cat haha
Everyone is wadshin… 😁🇦🇺👍 14:57
Haha you know what i was saying :-)
36:55 Probably because you left it in the sun while hardening, it became to hot.
...or because you have a "too thick" layer in the the cup and it could not get rid of heat. ...or you used too much hardener :)
We were using the pump, so it was most likely the sun, Thanks for the advice :-)
I only got. 1 thing to comment on Pink Crocs coconut looks great cheers n beers guys Marty Qld
haha you don't like the pick crocs haha, Coconut is doing very well :-)
You guys are doing great. The foaming you are referring to happens when you have more harder. You are doing good with the fiberglass repairs....
We will test putting a bit less in, Thanks for the tip :-)
Goed zo jochie !!!!!Salut de Gwada. Wouter.
Bedankt Wouter! :)
You guys have a sweet little kitty. Please clean her eye bugger with a damp cloth.
We got wipes at the vet, we clean it about 3 or 4 times a day, one eye is a different color so it can look like it needs cleaning when it doesn't, we are trying to teach Coconut how to do it but she is only interested in eating and coddles haha
@@sailing.supernova i apologize for being nosy, I know you guys are taking care of her. I’m a cat person.
No worries :-)
Great video!
Thanks heaps :-)
Agree with one comment about hardener. Too hot? Using slow hardener? Also when rebedding hardware drill out for sure, but you need to remove some core under the top shell to prevent the plug just pulling out of the deck. Also, likely better to wet out the area with unthickened epoxy first then adding some thickening agent. Things are looking up.
Thanks for the advice! We will do it that way in the future for sure :-)
Yes, the foaming is caused by too much heat and/or using too fast a hardener. I almost always use the slow hardener and West System makes an 'extra slow' too. The extra slow is a different mix ratio so make sure to use the correct pump or mix by volume (3:1)
Also reduce temperatures by using shade over the work area. Cool the epoxy cans before use by placing them in a bucket of ice water, etc. @@sailing.supernova
Thanks for the advice, I guess we got used to working in colder Canada haha
Try using rivet nuts with butle tape when trying to mount something on the top. I've used them for a better part of 40 years. They work great!
That looks like it would work so well! Do you just place them in and fill around them with fiberglass ?
I suggest you try auto fibre glass repair kit for holes. The paste ready mixed variety. An just add hardener.
We used two part epoxy, we buy it in bulk to save money, the auto stuff works great but its just a little to much money because the just sell small amounts of it :-)
Great job! Love the 3D printer.
We do too, We want one so bad now haha
Mistakes are normal
Yup, and we make them all the time haha
❤
Thanks heaps for the support
❤❤❤
Thanks heaps for your support :-)
Thanks guys, we really appreciate all of your efforts. Stay safe y'all, GO COCONUT. 👍🏻💙🐾
Thanks heaps for the support :-) Coconut is loving all the cuddles and food :-)
Thank you. You don't have to make the loop through the turnbuckle eye. A slightly longer loop and then put one end of the loop through the eye... and then pass the far end of the loop through the end you passed through the eye.
haha you should have seen Darcy's face when he read this haha. well at least we know for next time haha
Good job!!
Thanks heaps :-)
I never really liked those big solar panels on a boat. The potential of shading and low production is so high. Hope you get the power you anticipated
It's going better than we thought, the new panels work very well when shaded and it has solved our power problem for good, and we use a ton of power. I think if you look at some of the newer panels you will find they do really well compared to the oder ones. And when they are in full sun they put out so much power!
@@sailing.supernova how much solar do you have in total now ?
@@TheCornucopiaProject-bd5jk around 4000 watts, not done yet though
@@sailing.supernova 4kw is a lot. You have electric engines?
@@TheCornucopiaProject-bd5jk nope. We have an all electric galley and we just put in ac for the kitty. Solar is the only charging we have. Our alternators don't work. We would like to have 5000 watts of solar but going up to 4000 watts was a big jump, so we are going to wait a bit and see.
Have you showed your sleeping area?
For removing adhesive get some "goo gone".
We picked some up... but didn't know it was a knock off brand.. so we bought goof off.... it does not work as well haha
Hey guys I'm enjoying the content from Australia.
I'm no expert but I've seen information about 3D printing and they said that the material used is not water proof. Not good for water ingress to the cabin. Have fun Trevor
The box was printed with ABS and thats supposed to be much better, we could paint the lid and that should stop any problems :-)
Happy you are enjoying the videos :-)
to many holes in your roof etc silkaflex will last a year at most at sea then need renewing else it will let water in
We ended up just gluing the panels to the roof
y'all dont have spinnaker?
We don't, we need to get one but we also need to learn how to use one :-)
Where are you guys from? Your accent sounds kiwi/aussie?
I'm an Aussie and Darcy is from Canada :-)
You could actually fibreglass in bolt stays for the solar, use nuts to clamp onto the brackets, so fibreglass bolts into the deck thread side up hey presto permanent stay bolts, just figure though if the solar where to be removed for any reason they're a trip hazard, I'd say why would you remove solar, but technology advances, solar will, but then you could just cut them off level should that be in how long the future
Thats a really good idea! We may use that next time :-)
Is the 3D printing PLA, if so it will need to be painted to protect from UV and may still deform in the heat.
its ABS, but we will still keep an eye on it :-)
👍👌👏
Thanks heaps :-)
why because all boats flex yours no different , i believe
We are hoping the glue will flex with that boat, so far it has been ok :-)
✌🏽✌🏽
Thanks heaps for the support :-)
❤🌅🌊⛵⛱️🚣
Thanks heaps :-)
Y'all swingers?
haha nope, but to each there own
I noticed you have taken my comment down.(Aussie Slang) I guess it was something to do with the UA-cam video. Sorry if I did the wrong thing. Regards,David.
We don't take any comments down, sometimes UA-cam will take something down without us knowing, We watched the video that was commented on the aussie slang song, i loved it! but Darcy just can't get some of the slang haha.
No need to apologize you did nothing wrong :-)
I have subscribed to your channel 3 times in the past 3 weeks but for unknown reasons I get unsubscribed by you tube.
We are not sure why that is happening, Some other people have told us that to. We really appreciate that you re-subscribed each time :-)
I just finished watching all of your videos and enjoyed all of them. I’m so glad I found your channel.
Super happy you enjoyed the videos. If you like we have an extra full length video on Patreon every week. But we will always have new videos every Friday on UA-cam :-)
