Sadly I was in London on this day. I was glued to the old teletext and saw us go 2 -0 down. Then just after 4:30 it was 1 - 2. Nothing came up on the teletext so I eventually switched over to Grandstand and that inimitable voice rang out Oldham Athletic 3, Sheffield Wednesday 2. Will never, ever forget that moment.

I was at uni in Preston (it was a Polytechnic back then but the same thing). I had to listen on the radio, barely audible. StuartPyke on Piccadilli Key 103 iirc. Best commentary ever that was!

It would be amazing but it will unfortunately never happen again. We never give up hope though.

I was there. Great day. The only time in decades and decades that we actually won anything.

I still can't stop celebrating when Barlow was brought down as if i didn't know what was going to happen. And when Reffearn scores the penalty I'm still jumping up in the air celebrating. Man Utd and Man City can buy all the success they want but we did it the hard way - and for a brief few seasons. I'll take that. I really will.

This was fantastic. I support Norwich City so no link to Oldham at all, (in fact, more affinity to Wednesday because I was a student in Sheffield). However, to come back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 with a last minute penalty winner in a packed stadium. Superb second-half too. Teams tried to play the killer pass back then far more than they do now; meant they gave the ball away more, but I really do prefer that style of play. Oldham had two wingers in Ricky Holden and Neil Adams that were intent on crossing the ball into the danger area as soon as possible - of course Neil Adams went on to be very successful for the Canaries. He hardly missed a penalty in his career, (although ironically was subsituted before the penalty was given in this game). Bernard didn;t have much of a career, but he looked very usful in this game. Andy Barlow never made it in the Premier League but he had a fine game here. And that pitch invasion. You wouldn;t get that nowadays; Oldham fans would be pilloried across the nation for doing this. However, it just added to the sense of occasion immensely. A double-edged sword, because hugely enthusiastic crowds are more likely to lead to hooliganism but on days like this, well just wow.

Love this post. Adams is a legend but he never took a pen for Latics but you are absolutely correct. We played Norwich obviously a few times after this and the games were similar in regards to the style of football. The game was just better them imo, not technically but it was a real competition no matter your level. I know you are a Norwich fan but check out oldham vs Utd 1990 fa cup semi as a proper game of football from that era. Nobody can tell me football is better aniw after watching that game. I have posted small highlights but longervare available on here and well worth a watch. Non stop action.

30 years ago. Remember those Wednesday fans at the bottom of the stand so they could get on the pitch sharpish getting slapped from all angles. Was only a kid and loved watching the brawling. Really remember a Weds fan with a ponytail getting punched from every direction.

Oh yes I remember this game above the St Valentine's day massacre Feb14 1990 ua-cam.com/video/A3AVnVL0vBk/v-deo.html about even the final at Wembley a great day out just not the result I was hoping for. However despite playing pretty badly for the first hour we pulled off a great comeback to go up as champions. I can imagine that for most Latics supporters the pitch invasion was fun, but I was a ground steward covering the Rochdale road end. Can you imagine how much abuse and violence was hurled in my direction, I could not contain my delight when we scored the pen not very impartial of me and trying to stop the away suporters from getting onto the pitch was a nightmare.

Thought I had been drugged for a moment then when all of a sudden I swear I was seeing a woman strolling along down side of the pitch with not a care in the world pushing a baby in its pram as though she was in the park and not during the most important game of the season with the league title up for grabs what is she doing I'm laughing my head off its so crazy funny just realized it's a tea trolley not a pram
