I’ve received many requests for a video of the chest workout that Mike Mentzer put Markus Reinhardt through in 2001. In this video, Mike explains why warming up is important, and then has Markus demonstrate how he warms up under Mike’s supervision prior to starting the workout. The workout consists of two exercises, the Pec Deck taken to positive failure, and a set of incline presses performed in Rest-Pause fashion for 4 reps.
Mentzer's resurgence over the last year has been down to his enduring integrity and truth, but also to John Little for helping fan his flame through this channel.
Thanks for your post and for your kind words.
@@HEAVYDUTYCOLLEGE Thank you for putting up his content for me to discover!!
Legends never die

Mikes resurgance has been nothing short of amazing and gratifying to my mind. Remember 50 yrs ago there was no science, no studies. We all owe a debt of gratitude to a highly intelligent individual who brought logic reasoning, and structure to bodybuilding..
Okay, this video sheds more light on what master Mike Mentzer refined. I was warming up with good mornings, lateral stretches and twists before doing a couple of moderate warmup sets and then hitting the actual exercise. And, I didn't realise it was okay to drop the weight in order to get the reps. I have to be careful with loading as I train solo.
And yes, this type of training really taxes the cardiovascular system!
Great channel. Keep it going. Thanks!
I run all Mike's work out!!!! Every 4 days I lift
Thank you so much. Mike is helping me change my life
John thank you so much for these videos. Mike's knowledge has been incredibly helpful in my bodybuilding journey
Awesome!
He was a body building hero to us all. It's so sad he never lived long enough to tell the tale.
Thanks for all your work John. I am going to start the Ideal Program this week in my home-gym. I am only going to use a bench, dipping station, pull up bar and free weights. I will be recording my workouts and post them on my channel.
You could call that a Treasure Chest of of a workout! 🙂
"if we did 20 sets like that we had to have you leave in ambulance" :D so true, i've do Mike's program for almost 3 months and counting and never felt so strong... leg press from 220lb to 330, deadlift 150 to 225 its ridiculous!!!
Awesome
Four months for me and up over 300 in the deadlifts.😮
Heck yeah!
I tried Mike's program and I lost my muscle mass. It's the worst program.
@@a7mad.3wwad Your the first that I have heard this from
I am still doing the one and one. One warmup and then one set. Taking a fifth day off here and there. Great leg workout the other night but had a little cramping in my hamstrings but all good.
That’s what I do too. I’ll do some joint rotations and dynamic stretching before I begin, though. But the 1:1 is the same.
@@CousinJesse1 I think that day I skipped stretching.
Do you have footage of Mike Mentzer competing in Superstars 1982 MEN'S PRELIMINARY 3 against Lou Ferrigno? It is something that would be very interesting to watch.
I do not. I wish I did. Hopefully somebody out there has a videotape of it so that we can all see it.
Only two exercises?
Hello, you save us with these videos. But i cant find information about how to focus on weaker part in this program
Peep his seminars will Bill or head to the channel and check his older uploads they go into depth in different aspects.
i found in book@@BullyBreaker
Hey, can, Can you post a Mike Mentzer workout with just free weights? Thanks.
He likes machines because you load up more weight, lower risk for injury and you can squeeze out more reps and push to failure efficiently.
@@chadmiesterDonovan yeah, i just need a free weight adaptation because is the only thing i have at home for a quikly training.
Albert "Al" Beckles is still alive and his is 93 years old. What a longevity!
Is someone from the news generation of bodybuilder is going to live until 85 years old?
I tried this training yesterday and I can say that the pain is terrible. I will see if there will be growth over time and let you know the results.
updates?
Can we use the same training method with calisthenics? for example dips, pull ups and push ups each 1 set to failure and taking 96 hours of rest before the next workout.
Yes but you have to start doing them weighted pretty fast
Thank you@@onetrueone
Hey! I was that guy on the stair master in the background! I remember this day!
That’s pretty cool! What do you remember about that day?
@@HEAVYDUTYCOLLEGE Just kidding that wasn’t me. Lol
I was probably 14 when this video was made
@@danski6694 My bad.
@@HEAVYDUTYCOLLEGE no no not your bad! MY bad!
I am just fucking around
Can someone explain rest pause here in more detail?
Mike explains the Rest-Pause protocol in this video: ua-cam.com/video/7TxZqfQF58A/v-deo.htmlsi=BlqobocroRWMX9ul
Hey guys do you believe that a chest workout of an incline press and a cable fly is enough?? My chest is relatively good and i would love to do only these two exercises
Cable flys then to incline. That's all I am doing. I found Mike's routine 30 years ago and chest workouts have not changed.
@@OurTimeIsOut and have you seen good results with it?
@@billagap3213 It works every time. Less is better.
Just do a light set 30 reps warm-up, take a one minute break, then do the heavy set for 6 - 8 reps or to failure, then straight to your superset, That's it. Repeat on your next body part.
Keep your reps low for warmups. You don't want to get tired or reach anywhere near failure, you want almost, if not 100% of your energy ready for your heavy failure sets.
I have been training with Heavy Duty for maybe 3 years. I was 75 and in 2 years I have gained 90 kilos, from 200 pounds for squats to 400 pounds for bodybuilding. The system works
Your 75?
75kg i think
Any tip how to gain weight with high metabolism?
Eat more
Eat more and rest more. Look into Dr. D'Adamo and Dr. Chaffee.
Eat every 2 hours wether you're hungry or not. Drink a protien shake 1 when u wake up. 1 after or before workout and 1 before bed. Drink lots of whole milk and eat bananas
who is this bodybuilder..what is his name.. he survived torture in this video.. did he win any contest?
It's Markus Reinhardt
I was wondering that too?
markus won absolutely nothing
