    he’s on a list of players who came in the league too early. if he came into the league 15-20 years later he’s a perennial all star, franchise player. his play style wasn’t winning basketball in the 90s-2000s, was seen as a ball hog and a selfish player. but in 2021 every team wishes to have lead guard who can average 24 ppg and 8 apg.

    • @the1reef.243
      @the1reef.243 2 роки тому +20

      Maybe in the mid 2000s but everyone realistically wants a pass first PG like lonzo or jrue paired with a scoring wing. It wasn’t a coincidence that the nets made it to the finals as Kidd joined and Marbury left

      @@the1reef.243 you’re correct about that second point, same with the suns improving replacing him with nash. which proves my point, his play style wasn’t a winning style back then, today it’s the opposite now teams seek and build around point guard who have marbury’s skillset of scoring and playmaking.

    I remember when AI and Stephon entered the league, me and my boys were so excited, we were like 18 at the time. They were comin in wearing baggy shorts and untucking their jerseys, keeping a high dribble with a spinning ball, always looking to cross people BAD, trying to revolutionize the game. The vets were straight up hating on these two. Everybody said they shot too much, were reckless... The refs called a ton of carrys on them but they changed the game forever. They were the first point guards who wanted to score like Mike with their own style, straight from the concrete. I loved watching them so much, I copied them, bought the Starbury And 1 shoes and the Answers, some big ass And 1 shorts and huge tank tops with the faceless player 🤣
    Man. These two would kill in todays league, the game has changed so much, now guards can do whatever they want to do, these two, Kobe & Stevie paved the way for all the changes with regards to dribbling the basketball.
    Steph had a ridiculous windmill oop when he was with the Nets, was hoping to see that one but nevermind. Footage is rare, I still got a ton of VHS tapes from way back, 95-96 onward. Those were golden days. Thanks for the memories, Maximillion, you're the OG.

    You weren't winning a title with Marbury, but for those that weren't watching in 2001, in his prime there, he was as talented and unstoppable 1 on 1 as I've seen from a PG since that time. Marbury was the goat to me. Imagine him playing in the league today with weak this defense ( no hand checking, no cutting/bumping players off there route, etc) marbury was a no emotion face player im pretty sure thats where players like D rose , sga, cam thomas , etc get it from. He was simply dropping buckets, hardly complaining when he was clearly fouled made big plays , etc all with the straight face lol now thats what i call a STONE COLD KILLER. The rise (vertical) on his jumpshot was so beautiful to see and when it goes in most of the time it was all net so the arch on the ball was immaculate. The strength he used when cradling the ball to get in the paint was ungaurdable , not to mention he had every finish in his bag around ten feet or closer to the basket (floaters , euro, pull ups , right or left handed you name it) he was so skilled with his sharp crossovers wether it was halfway or what the refs call carrying it , his stop and go's ,his in and outs ,the spins . And dont get me started with how clutch he was when games were on the line . It felt like you just knew whatever he did it was going in . The league definitely tried they best to not give him his flowers ( barely made all star games , wasnt mentioned much when it came to best players in the league , they definitely tried to shadow him). Theres no player in the league i feel even before his era or now that could've stopped him 1 on 1 . Im sure whoever he had on an island already knew what time it was lol . Starbury averaged plus 20 pts and plus 8 asst for his career and whats crazy about that is at the end of his career they definitely tried to isolate him more (push him out the league )so he hardly played games which can easily subside your average numbers yet he still came out with 20 and 8!!! I bet till this day theres not even 10 players who did that in the history of the sport. The nba disliked him cause he dressed , acted , had a lot of tattoos for that era and he carried him self certain ways (like iverson) . Still He not only influenced the league but fans also and ofcourse the nba HATED IT 😂 . Man , I use to watch every game of his wins or losses and the outcomes were always the same ..... you can bet your last dollar and always win cause he sure had (20 plus pts , 10 plus asst each and every night ! ) i wish i couldve seen his games in china as well cause his game never fell off no matter what age he was always productive . No wonder he won 3 championships , and had a statue built of him out there !!! Marbury was so different he even came at micheal jordan saying his shoes were too expensive so he came out with his own sneakers that were only $15 to show the kind heart he had . Idc if no one appreciates his game and how hard they refuse to agree that he carved his influence on the league , and shouldnt be in the hall of fame is just completely HATING !!! Starbury you are and still is appreciated from me and im sure the real ones who loves the sport. man o man i wish at times you can turn back time ... cause i would love to see it all again !!! )
    Put some respect on his name , stop being delusional and give credit when its due . DUDE WAS A MONSTER a PROBLEM a MENACE or whatever you want to call it 💯🏀🗣

    I see a lot of revisionist history in the comments that seems to reflect a lack of understanding when it comes to the difference between having talent and being a winning player. The two point guards who replaced him in New Jersey and then in Phoenix, Kidd and Nash respectively, turned those teams into contenders immediately after missing the playoffs completely with Marbury as their floor leader. And while you can debate who had more physical talent between Marbury and Kidd, there is no debate on who had more physical talent between Marbury and Nash. When Marbury was the best player on a NBA team the team wasn't good. Highlights are nice, winning is what counts.

    11:42 I am sold Marbury had the deadliest stop and go in NBA history. Even better than Iverson’s.
    11:01 Look at Kobe not knowing how to defend him. He’s causally dribbling but the stop and go is so deadly he doesn’t know what’s coming. Small slow body movements got him playing 3 feet off of him 🤣🤣
    There a lot of athletic freaks in the NBA just as athletic as Marbury but you can’t teach that stop and go he had. The head movement with the the entire body in unison with the speed burst was always catching defenders off guard and making them flat footed on defense.

      @@melvinhhcp3615 if a player have a good organisation behind him, that can make careers. Look at golden state. What Klay would be on the kings? You could end like a buddy hield, who is also a great shooter but never will be a hall of famer, because you simply don't win

    • @melvinhhcp3615

      @@bartekino Klay > Buddy Hield on all levels. I understand your point though... Iverson was an explosive MVP 2 guard that went deeper in the playoffs than Marbury did. When Stephon left the Nets, they immediately went to The Finals in 02 & 03. When he left Phoenix, the Suns morphed into a 60-win team. Minimum 54-55 games. Steph was a good player, but he wasn't better than A.I. He would've been better off staying in Minnesota, or being moved to SG, like how Larry Brown moved Allen in his 2nd season.

    • @bartekino
      @bartekino 2 роки тому

      @@melvinhhcp3615 you never know, you just speculate. Of course is Klay better, but this is the developing. Stop this with marbury. We all know Kidd was the better player. Also Kidd would Kidd make the sixers champions. The sixers were a defensive powerhouse, that is the reason they were good, not iverson. It's like Larry Brown make the pistons and win with them. After AI was out of Philly, he never won anything. That is the same. Not in Denver, not in Detroit. Trade Curry to the kings and he would never be that legend, just a freaky good Scorer/ shooter. If you not win, you don't get respect. I see that in your argument. Morant win, Morant is the best. Trae lose, he is a loser. Your argument. My argument is, it depends on the team and coach you play for.

    • @melvinhhcp3615
      @melvinhhcp3615 2 роки тому

      @@bartekino Neither Iverson or Marbury won anything. Iverson still got further with his teams, than Marbury did with his. No hate. Just facts. Iverson utilized his teammates better. In Denver, A.I. wasn't the franchise player. Carmelo was. To my point, when he was there, they got dropped twice in the 1st round, I think in 2 sweeps (Spurs & Lakers). When Billups got there, the Nuggets went to the WCF. I'm not even a fan of George Karl. He's a terrible coach. But facts are facts.
