If it stops blinking after ~10s something went wrong.
I found out the hard way that its working only with a USB2-Sticks on my B550 board!

I came here to help you all after seeking help to flash BIOS too...
I bought a MPG X570 Carbon Wifi to use with Ryzen 5600G which couldn't POST, showing CPU led on on EZ DEBUG.
I've followed all the instructions on the video, read tons of comments here, Reddit, random tech sites, and the only way I could flash BIOS to the current latest version (7B93v1H) in my case, was to leave the mobo with only the power cables (ATX 24-pin and both ATX 12+4-pin attached onto the mobo.
Then I followed to use a FAT32 formatted 2Gb stickdrive I have here with the latest ROM renamed to MSI.ROM, plugged into the right USB2.0 slot and and pushed the magic Flash BIOS button.
I've waited for around 5 minutes as reported until the Flash BIOS red led stop blinking, then after I hard power cycled it.
After it took couple minutes to show something on screen, blinking randomly some leds on EZ DEBUG (omfg I swear I've bricked the mobo lol) and then it successully went into BIOS screen - hooray!!
I failed on many attempts, such as trying on different USB2.0 sticks varying from 32Gb to this 2Gb I've used...I utterly decided to quit, until I tried the last time ripping all the peripherals, and boom! I made it!
So whoever is trying to make it, even if you read people succeeding they could flash with CPU/RAM/GPU, I recommend trying remove everything as I said above.
    Good luck!

I did this with a new Z690 Tomahawk wifi Ddr5 , as it needed updating for an intel 13th gen i7 13700k. The pc was a new build so board was bare except for power connections. The flash seemed to be successful, usb stick would rapidly flash for 5 mins. Then board would turn of then back on. After the reboot the red Cpu light would come on, on the motherboard & stay on. I kept thinking I had an error in the flash. But the flash was fine, it was lit simply because no cpu was connected. That does make sense when you think about it. But no one explains this anywhere, hope this helps another person

B450 MORTAR TITANIUM: There is no red LED, it is white and near the corner. Tried four or five USB drives, none worked. Then I remembered having an old 512MB USB and this worked. There should really be better compatibility with USB drives from this decade. Use the smallest USB drive you can find. 64GB, 32GB, 8GB are too big. I didn't check 4GB, I used 512MB. Format the drive as FAT32. Copy the BIOS files to the drive and rename it MSI.ROM.
You do not power up the board, you just insert the USB (lowest port in corner by button), press button, board will power itself up.
White LED near the back will start flashing repeatedly. If it blinks only three times, it didn't work. It should continue blinking steadily and if the USB drive has an indicator, it will blink too. The row of LEDs beneath the front of the board will light up white. After the flashing is complete, the white LED in the back stops (turns off) and the front LEDs beneath the board turn red.
Hope this helps. Instructions in the video are terrible.

Hey I still have problems and need help. I have the MSI b450 Gaming Plus and a AMD ryzen 5 3600. We first tried putting all in and starting it but no signal on the screen. After much research we came to the conclusion that we need a new bios. But with this flashing method , the red light blinks 2 times and then just keeps glowing. We let it in like 10 minutes but still glowing. Scrolled through the comments and some had the same problems but his solution was checking the bios and noticing he had the wrong bios but we checked like 3 times and we're pretty sure we have the right one. The USB-Stick ist FAT32. Someone help?

Got it working after some time. Using a z690 Tomahawk DDR4 Wifi. Tried 3 USB sticks, nothing worked, the red led stayed on instead of blinking. What worked for me:
Usb 2.0 - 8GB. Formatted with Rufus (a tool on windows) to MBR and Fat32. Selected not bootable in Rufus. After that, reformatted it in Windows, Fat32 again, drive name without blanks, 4096 bytes cluster size. Downloaded the second most recent BIOS again (figured maybe the most recent is broken). extracted the bios file and renamed it to MSI.ROM
Copied the file to the root of the usb stick. Cut the power of the Mainboard. Put Usb Stick in flash usb port. connected power again. Pressed the flash button (pc was turned off). The led flashes a couple of times and then the pc turns on. If it does not turn on or the led stays red without flashing: it's not working. My cpu and everything else except GPU was connected. No other usb deviced connected.

Thought i repost this helped some poeple in another vid
    1st. I needed a usb 3.0 8gb is what I’m using,
my usb 2.0 would not work.
2nd. Just Format the drive into fat32
NO I DID NOT NEED TO MAKE IT MBR like everyone else im on win7 and win10 i did this yesterday works fine....but u can try if needed
3rd. Now we have the Usb3.0 formatted to fat32 just slide your bios file into the usb then rename it MSI.ROM,
make sure you Move the Right file over not the .txt file
    4th. Once renamed to MSI.ROM
Now you must setup you motherboard, all I did was plugged in was the 24pin for the motherboard, and an 8 pin, or 4pin (depending on your motherboard) for my cpu power, no I did not have my processor in, or my hard drives.
OR you can it also worked for me with processor and hard drive in after testing... although i needed to Flick my psu on and off for it to realize it was updated, but Still Worked!
5th. Then hit you bios flashback button it blinks red for maybe 5-10 minutes then the red light stops blinking, and that means it’s finished your motherboard should automatically restart after it stops blinking, but for me it did not restart the first time i updated my bios so i just waited for it to COMPLETELY STOP BLINKING then I turned my motherboard off and on, and its the same thing just a manual restart had worked.
Hope this helps u figure it out
Only the Motherboard Power, and CPU power, was needed for me when doing this literally do not know why it didnt like my old Usb 2.0 so I’m hoping that this is the issue your running into

Just an FYI. A friend of mine recently purchased an MSI Bazooka B550m board. He could not get this process to work at all. He purchased the mobo and a Ryzen 5600G for a new build. He removed the DIMMS and CPU and still could not get this process to work. Turns out that he had this board pretty much installed and hooked up to the front panel connector. I advised him to remove pretty much all the other cables except for the ATX12V and CPU Power as shown in the video. Once he had the board with just the PSU connections, this process worked. So there must be some sort of circuitry or electrical connection which does NOT allow the flash button to work if the Front Panel connector cables are connected.

This saved my bacon! Pc worked fine after being put together, booted great. While I was waiting for the Windows 10 media Creation Tool to finish I played with the BIOS a bit. Set my RAM to 3200 and thats when I got the solid red CPU LED and it didn't boot. Finished the Windows 10 Media Creation tool process, copied the latest BIOS update to the same USB drive, renamed it, popped it in and flashed within about 4 minutes.
Now I have a working system again! Such a handy feature! I'm unsure if clearing the CMOS with the jumper would have helped but oddly enough I can't locate a jumper to clear it anyway....so this worked really well!

Actually, the mobo is designed to reset the CMOS settings, if the computer fails to boot 5 times in a row.
Hard-crashing it (power button, hold) will make it work faster.

Okay so, I tried updating my BIOS using Dragon center and I really regret it. My PC rebooted but with the CPU light (EZ Debug LED) turned on. It wasn't there before, so I knew there was a problem. Turns out, the BIOS update failed. Now to sum it up, my PC turns on but there is no display. To fix it, you need to have a bootable drive (you can just use Rufus), and of course, the flash bios button in your motherboard.
    1) Extract the BIOS file to your bootable drive
    2) Rename the BIOS file to "MSI.ROM" (you may delete the txt document as it's not needed anyway).
    3) Ensure that your motherboard has its power supply connected (I didn't remove anything in my PC like the SSD, RAM, etc... so it should be fine)
    4) Connect the bootable drive in the USB port of your mobo under the flash bios button.
    5) You won't turn on the PC or anything. Once the bootable drive is connected, wait for 5 secs and press the Flash BIOS button until red blinking lights appear. The lights should stay for awhile as that would mean that the BIOS is being updated.
    6) Your PC should automatically boot up indicating that the update was successful.
My PC is working fine now. I'm running a Ryzen 3900x on an MSI x570 Gaming Edge Wi-Fi.

Can we install bios in a bricked motherboard with this method

  • @45eno

This is what worked for my 5600x B450 Tomahawk. I forgot to check bios after removing a 3700x from the system. Dropped in the 5600x and no post. System powers up but the CPU LED remains lit.
Without uninstalling any of the hardware, system was fully built and ready to work. I tried a USB 3.0 32gb flash drive. Quick format, FAT32. Downloaded the latest BIOS file , renamed it to MSI.ROM. Placed only that file on the flash drive. Plugged it in and without powering up the PC I pressed the flash button. It blinked a few times and then went solid. I let it sit for 5mins and decide as it wasn't blinking it was likely hung based on what I read about solid light.
Found a old 2gb USB 2.0 drive, quick format, same MSI.ROM bios file placed on this drive. Plugged in the flash drive and pressed the Flash button. This time my fans powered on simply from pressing the flash button. The flash drive started to blink and so I left it alone for a few minutes while I cleaned up tools and PC bits from the table. I heard the system within 3-5mins minutes reboot on it's own. Sure enough CPU light was now off and took a good 30-60secs and I finally saw POST screen.
    TIPS
    1.) Format USB 2.0 drive FAT32
2.) Copy latest BIOS file onto it and rename the entire thing MSI.ROM
3.) My setup had the entire system hooked up with all hardware like CPU, RAM , GPU, drives all installed.
4.) Put flash drive into FLASH USB port and press the button above it
5.) If it starts blinking more then a few times and then continues to blink you are likely good to go just simply give it time to complete
6.) If light is solid then something didn't go right.
This was on the original first version of the B450 Tomahawk. First time using flashback and so glad it worked as I was too lazy to uninstall the 5600x and pull a Zen + or Zen 2 from another system in the house. Now I have to be up for work in 4.5hrs so time to go. Figured more people that were stuck could read what worked for others might give them some confidence in a dicey task like a BIOS update using the button. Had me wondering if I would brick my board. Well it worked. Use an older smaller USB flash drive, format it, put the bios file on it and rename to MSI.ROM. Plug it in with power to the board at least and only press the rear flash button. If it's flashing then it's updating.

@@Berstiger11 yikes. Sorry to hear that. I’m no expert, all I can say is make sure it’s the proper bios file renamed to MSI.rom. Plug power in and only press the bios flash back button to power the system up with the flash drive in the proper USB port for flashback. It should blink for about 5mins and then reboot on its own. I know pc issues can be a real pita. I hope you can get it to flash and I think even bios bricked boards can still be flashed to repair it. I would try different flash drives and fresh downloads of the bios file. Make sure it’s the proper version or revision of the board. Very important!!!
Because some people use the front case USB ports when they copy bios on stick and most are 3.0
Those 2 ports where he sticks the USB are 2.0 ( the red ones are 3.0 or 3.1 ).
So when you copy the bios use the same USB port for copying/installing, never ever mix them like copy on USB 2.0 port and trying to install on USB 3.0 port, or else it will give errors!
Same thing when installing Windows from USB, always use the same USB port 2.0 or 3.0 for copying and installing never mix them.

Always use same USB ports when copy/install the windows/bios, the errors occur because there's a difference in data between ports when you do the copy.
Never had problem with the USB device using it in higher or lower port.
But if some strange error occurs than ppl should know the culprit.
