  • I recently had to do a half decent stamp job and I don't get enough practice to do it free hand so came up with this method. It worked remarkably well at keeping things straight but needs a slight addition to keep the stamps square rotationally or I need to take a little more care. The end section of the stamp was turned down from a taper to an 8mm round, which an easy task for a carbide insert tool. The stamp was held in a split ring in the 3 jaw to save 4 jaw set up time.
In the video I stamped things too quickly and it looks misaligned but that is just a slight twist in the stamps.

Nice idea. Fixing a straight edged piece of material below the holes would avoid the twisting problem for very little extra work

Hello Chris, I like this idea. I am a tool and die maker so stamping is as natural as breathing for me. I just draw a straight line with a China pencil and stamp. But after watching this you have inspired my creativity to make something...thanks for sharing!

Hi Chris, very clever and easy to use. I have got (somewhere) a tool I made as an apprentice to hold multiple stamps (up to 8 I think from memory). It gets the spacing and squareness of the stamps spot on but where it fails is you are using stamps that have all been whacked on the back end by differing amounts so balancing the depth was always difficult, having to put tiny bits of shim behind the shallow ones. This method gets you round that. Well done again, the asylum is obviously a very productive place. Jon

I like it, had that problem. Will copy that. I have square c5:s in the lathe so it should be easy.
