I test drove both back to back. The cx90 has very stiff suspension. My head was bouncing off the head rest. The tx felt bumps still, but is was smooth and my head wasn't Bumping. The Q7 eith air suspension is noticeable back to back as well.
@SamCarLegion, in the Mazda, to exit the 3rd row, you can slide the second row seat forward using the same upper lever that is used to tilt it forward.
@@Gopinathk17 I have an almost 18 yr old CX-9 with almost 300K on it. The engine still runs as smoothly as the day I bought it. So I got myself a CX-90.
The CX90 clearly has the premium look both inside and out over the TX provided that you're getting the top of the line Signature/Turbo S Premium. That being said, the TX is the well thought-out product overall even as I have a hard time justifying the 25k (CAN) or 15k (US) extra over the Mazda. And there is also a higher TX550+ (a V6) which is even more expensive. The TX still has the cheaper look but is easier to live with while the CX90 has the looks and driveability but sacrifices practicality.
The Mazda has a decent interior for sure, but it does feel more cramped abd the ride is bumper. Sitting in the TX does feel surprisingly basic but it does feel more luxurious due to the black theme, quieter and softer ride.
Mazda was about to launch their own luxury brand in 1980s but for whatever the reason they didn't. So this CX90 is technically a luxury suv with a regular brand name Mazda.
To get a more accurate legroom space, you have to move all the seats all the way back (front and middle seats). Both cars actually have the same front seat legroom at 41.7 inches each. The middle seats are practically the same, 39.4 inches for the CX-90 and 39.5 inches for the TX-500h. The rear seats is where the big difference exists at 30.4 inches for the CX-90 and 33.5 inches for the TX-500h. The TX-500h also has about 1.5 to 2.5 inches advantage in shoulder room in all three rows and it also has more generous headroom and cargo space.
The big advantage of the TX over the CX is in the third row, not just knee room, but there is significantly more room for the feet of the third row passenger to fit under the second row seat. Also cargo room with all three rows in use means way more room for the TX. I say this as a Mazda owner.

Hi, we have the new lexus. In the canadian winter it is actually way easier than everyone else, because since the door handle doesn't actually have any moving parts, it can't get jammed with ice and you can confidently pull on the handle as hard as you feel like it without fear of ripping it out like other cars since it is one solid piece. It is actually better than regular door handles for winter. thank you for this review. Also I feel like the target audience for Lexus is generally older folks wanting luxury vehicles. Interesting points about the winters and target customer. I'm a bit younger (no kids yet) and I've taken my new Mazda into the mountains of Northern California for camping/hiking trips in very remote areas of high elevation. My grandmother lived in Pennsylvania and she had the problem on her Volkswagen vehicles most of her life. Even in snow/icy conditions with sub-freezing temperatures, I haven't had any problems with doors on my Mazda. It's good to know that manufacturers are engineering them with this in mind. That said: I'm not sure that I agree with your vehicle life assessment. Mazda has reinvented itself. Most of their vehicles are built in the same factories (and with the same shared workforce) as Toyota and Lexus. Moreover, the Mazda parts that are problematic on BMWs and Mercedes are really good (the engineer in me notices these things). I also like the fact that the Mazda avoided the CVT that Toyota Corporation has embraced. Although Toyota does a better job than most, they are a bit jarring in how they work and the life-span of CVTs is quite limited.
I have an almost yr old Mazda CX-9. I live in Ontario Canada (so get winters and salty roads). My CX-9 is parked outside and has zero rust on the body. The engine runs like the day I got it and has almost 300K on in. The car simply won't die. So I don't know what having a car last longer like the Lexus will benefit when the Mazda keeps running. I decided to get a CX-90 because it's value is great.

Hi Sam. I agree with you about the back of the Mazda CX-90. It looks a bit awkward. Also, like what was mentioned in this video, not enough head room in the third row seating area and the side window in the back could've been a little bit larger. Just a little bit so that third-row seating passengers dont feel claustrophobic back there. It would be great to see these two vehicles the Lexus TX and Mazda CX-90 go head to head in a drag race as well as a roll race. Should be very interesting.

Space in the rear cannot determine whether the price difference is justifiable. I have an lx600 f sport and a cx90 turbo s premium plus. cx90 has more room in the 2nd row, third row, and the back. Yet the lx is over 113k usd and is worth it. Fit and finish are both excellent. I’m finding myself driving the cx90 more and more than the lx. Both are great cars. Just depends on your needs. The reviewer needs to get familiar with the car he’s reviewing before making a comment. The second row seats will move forward with 1 pull of the lever to get access to the third row. 15k is not worth the difference for me between these two cars. Lastly, i believe the tx fsport is 6 cylinders and not 4.
well @naveenthemachine aka the green machine will like to have a word with you in regards to how he doesn't like the majority of lexus and toyota products
The Mazda is actually priced higher than the Lexus for American dealerships, which actually is justified.. The difference in class is obvious between these cars and unlike Lexus, Mazda has heritage and has been around for generations WITH a Motorsport pedigree. And honestly, if we look at history, Mazda has been making premium vehicles longer than Lexus has been alive. Every company has their unique drawbacks, but like Volvo, Mazda has persevered and payed their dues to be justified as a premium offering🤷♂️
Both are beautiful vehicles. Lexus tech definitely gives it the edge since they have the experience. Great attempt for Mazda entering a luxury segment, they’re making good changes.
that B roll footage is BEAUTIFUL! the TX looks so awkward with that front end design.... and the lame DRL and headlight design as well.... Love my LEXUS RX500h with triple beam but damn does the CX90 looks amazing in it's top tier form!
This guy is a Lexus/Toyota SHILL ! These two are NOT comparable for 3 really big reasons. 1. You can buy/order a Mazda CX 90, and actually recieve it in a reasonable time for oem MSRP. Lexus has premiums slapped on it from A. Their main distributor, then add insult to injury the dealer. 2. The Lexus is NOT a true AWD. The rear axle is an electric motor only. Offroad performance sucks. 3. Price, the Lexus is waaaaaay too expensive. ******Really, just on superficial observations, the interior of the Lexus is well,...CHEAP-LOOKING. Mazda is really raising the bar,.....for not alot of money, and you can get one.
Thats a dealer installed accessory, it can be installed from the lowest trim to the highest trim Your dealer installed it beforehand and thats why you have it, I believe its $1,000 dollar option which is expensive but worth the cool factor

I take the Lexus no matter what because Lexus make the most reliable vehicle also hold the most value than any other brand. I have own 3 Lexus and never had any problems
The Mazda is nicer, and I was happy to see the I6 rear-wheel drive layout (proper layout) BUT got very disapointed when I learned their engine has the timing belt by the firewall, which is a disaster design. This alone ruins the Mazda's success. The TX on the other hand I just find it ugly.
I think the Lexus is not my style, I love how the Mazda looks but it just has too many compromises for me, it’s not as family friendly, not as efficient and while the interior looks great I think I would greatly appreciate the easier to use tech in the Lexus
I have not seen any other reviewer have so much difficulty getting in and out of the CX-90s 3rd row. 🤔 UPDATE. Have watched several of Sams videos. Almost every vehicle he reviews he does not lpullift up the 2d row when sitting in the 3rd row. For some reason, when he sits in the back of the CX90 he lifts up the 2d row and then says he can’t figure out how to get out!?!?🤷
You can't go wrong with either option. Gota appreciate Mazda's offering for its quality and enjoyable driving experience at a reasonable price. On the other hand, Lexus provides luxury both inside and out, not to mention the overall quality and longevity associated with Toyota/Lexus is always a selling factor
I am Mazda user since 2017.. they make safe, reliable, luxurious and fun to drive vehicles. I would definitely go for CX90 and have Million in bank then will buy TX too ❤
well the TX will be cross shopped with all kinds of 3 row suvs, mainstream ones like the palisade, upmarket ones like the CX90, midsize luxury crossover ones that are smaller like the MDX, full size crossover ones like the x7, and full size body on frame ones like the grand wagoneer (still find it funny that there's more total cargo space in the TX compared to the non L grand wagoneer)
I'd take the Lexus all the way. The Zoomy SUV is not something that really computes for me. Spaciousness, efficiency and a usable rear seat are what 3-rows should be about. Thanks for making the comparison video though. I'd buy the plug in 550h+ version.
If they fixed the 2nd row console and added more foot room in the 3rd, it could have been the best SUV on the market. Too small on the inside. Spot on review
You would have to lose your mind to spend 90K for a vehicle with a 4-cylinder engine. Lexus should be ashamed. Mazda lowered the price on all models in March of 2024 when they introduced the CX-70 by $4,000 on this Signature model and about $1,500 on the entry level model.
Look I am not a fan of Mazda but this new look SUV CX90 AWD I like but yes I will choose the Lexus because for the room in the cargo and in the rear seats, with the tech, comfort ride, and all the gadgets it comes with and I love my vehicles to have fog lights that’s a deal breaker for me is only a few vehicles I will buy w/o fog lights Mercedes, BMW, To name a few so for me I have a big family I am definitely going to check out this Lexus TX500H3 for sure and it’s AWD as well am impressed I will test drive that in e near future when am ready to trade in my crossover SUV which is only 2 rows for this 3 row for sure. Nice design too I will get it in all black with black interior or all white with black trims all around I think that looks dope but I do love that red metallic on this Mazda too it’s not a bad vehicle I just wouldn’t mind paying a little bit more for that Lexus that’s just me.
My 08 Lexus RX 350 died at 230k miles after 7 years of dependable service but I did not like the luxury up charges on parts so I went with the Mazda 90
apples to oranges - a $30K Price difference is not the same category vehicle obv. 2 diff customers and classes. That being said, comendable for Mazda to be in this comparison, but, they still have a lot to prove in terms of their transmission on the PHEV and reliability of the V6 Engine in the CX here.
Basically a Japanese made mid size SUV Mazda CX-90 vs Lexus TX (1st lexus mid size+ suv made in USA). UM thats a pretty easy choice especially when the Japanese Mazda suv drives like a sports car, faster top speed, superior handling/braking, and over $10k cheaper with 0 markup. Thats a no brainer choice. Only advantage of the TX is being the luxury version of Toyota with 10% boost in overall interior volume. Nah CX90 takes the cake, then Acura MDX and then American made Lexus TX.
Those two place second rows are a deal breaker when you have three kids and sometimes need to haul max cargo or additional friends around. Really compromises their practicality.
I am a big Lexus fan BUT Mazda hit it out of the park with their CX-90 design. Mazda then dropped the ball by not putting in rear door unlock keyless entry for their flagship vehicle. If they want to compete in the luxury segment that was one fail.
Did you compare the stereo ? The TX has s terrible stereo for this pricey vehicle. No bass or flat bass , Lexus need to update stereo firmware to boost the bass.
The most amazing thing about this video is that you're comparing a Lexus with a....Mazda. A few years ago, that would have been unthinkable. However, Mazda has reimagined and rebranded itself as a premium value brand. It's not quite BMW, Mercedes, Audi or even Lexus. However, it is very, VERY close. In fact, I purchased a Mazda earlier this year after quite a bit of research. Some of the reasons: I wanted AWD, a non-CVT transmission, great safety ratings and a few other features that came standard on the Mazda but were only found on the higher packages of the Lexus and other brands. At this point, the new Mazda vehicles are somewhere between Toyota and Lexus in terms of quality -- but much, much closer to the Lexus than Toyota.
Lexus third row seats are a lot shorter that the Mazda. Cx90 seat bottom nearly covered you entire leg where as the lexus only cover barely a 1/3 od the leg area. That is something you have to say but never do. The seats on the lexus are much more narrow that the Cx90. Seats in the lexus just screams cheap
This Mazda still needs more time in the oven. But from a looks standpoint, especially the exterior, it’s a winner! It looks like the more sophisticated vehicle next to the Lexus. The fact that Sam can dare to compare the these two vehicles is a huge compliment to Mazda.
I’ll be honest, I already bought the TX500h and I really love it , But for the price of the Lexus I could have bought a BMW and definitely go up to a better level of technology and quality, My wife and I have talked about it and the Lexus is very overrated, it should be a $60k car and no more than that. I love the Lexus, but I regret not having bought a BMW X7, Unfortunately I can’t return the Lexus, the dealers don’t accept that.
I would prefer if the door opened up by itself by several inches without touching the door especially if you have a disability or other issues thanks hello from oakville

Sam, you like the grille of the Lexus but dislike the rear of the Mazda? It’s subjective, but surprised to hear that.
Both are beautiful vehicles. Lexus tech definitely gives it the edge since they have the experience. Great attempt for Mazda entering a luxury segment, they’re making good changes.
What tech? 😂
@@dgdave2673 If you’re going to ask you either didn’t watch any of the video or are just plain ignorant.
34:25 that is a nice classic passing by on your left
that B roll footage is BEAUTIFUL! the TX looks so awkward with that front end design.... and the lame DRL and headlight design as well....
Love my LEXUS RX500h with triple beam but damn does the CX90 looks amazing in it's top tier form!
Honda want thier grill back.
Great job Sam for the review attention in detail, I have cross shop Rx Tx Gv80 MDX cx90 be honest cx90 catching my eyes!!
I don’t know why the highest trim of cx90 don’t have the camera rear view mirror. I have S premium and has it
Its an extra feature that can be purchased before you buy them in any trim.
How are the transmission shifts? Smooth and fast enough? I'm coming from a 2018 Mdx Hybrid
I have the cx90 turbo SPP and my car has it
Thats a dealer installed accessory, it can be installed from the lowest trim to the highest trim
Your dealer installed it beforehand and thats why you have it, I believe its $1,000 dollar option which is expensive but worth the cool factor
Have a Merry Christmas Sam!
5:22 besides large wheel size, it looks like they actually used that extra area to shove in some bigger brakes, unlike acura did for the MDX.
Greetings from oakville Ontario I'm enjoying my mitsubishi outlander phev it's so high tech still getting used to it just received it 2024 3 year lease from Erin mills mitsubishi Mississauga my model was $55000 and recommended by the ajac for 2023 thanks for the presentation
I take the Lexus no matter what because Lexus make the most reliable vehicle also hold the most value than any other brand. I have own 3 Lexus and never had any problems
This is not true. Mazdas just as r e liable if not better than lexus
Same here, 3 Lexuses in my household. 08 RX, 17 ES and 24 NX hybrid. I won’t buy anything else unless it is a 911.
Same here 2 Rx350 and a Es350
@@leivifelix6901yes Lexus and Toyota are for uncles ..so perfect choice for you
now what if the mazda adds 30 thousand more into this vehicle would you still pick the lexus?
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣that's funny! I actually bought the cx90. Mhev! Totally love it..
Mazda competes more w grand highlander hybrid max; which would you pick between the two?
Its clearly more luxurious and more powerful than the Lexus TX yet you somehow feel that its competing with the Grand Highlander
I think the Lexus is not my style, I love how the Mazda looks but it just has too many compromises for me, it’s not as family friendly, not as efficient and while the interior looks great I think I would greatly appreciate the easier to use tech in the Lexus
Family friendly, this assumes you have 4 kids or more. Otherwise the space is negligible as the extra seat can be folded down
The tech in the Mazda is far easier to use. It's not buried as deeply as it is within the Lexus' menus.
I have not seen any other reviewer have so much difficulty getting in and out of the CX-90s 3rd row. 🤔
UPDATE.
Have watched several of Sams videos. Almost every vehicle he reviews he does not lpullift up the 2d row when sitting in the 3rd row.
For some reason, when he sits in the back of the CX90 he lifts up the 2d row and then says he can’t figure out how to get out!?!?🤷
That's because all of the others realized that the seat slides forward with the same top lever that tilts it forward...
Quality and reliability are a thing of he past with Toyota and Lexus
And Lexus doesn’t offer any sort of luxury in the tx
@@naveenthemachine😂😂😂. Lexus TX IS A EXTREMELY LUXURIOUS SUV And MORE. KEEP Your DUMB OPINIONS IN Your ASS And OUTSIDE THE INTERNET .😂😂😂
I dont think the TX is anywhere as luxurious as the CX90
I am Mazda user since 2017.. they make safe, reliable, luxurious and fun to drive vehicles. I would definitely go for CX90 and have Million in bank then will buy TX too ❤
Thanks for sharing
The CX90 isnt really competing against the TX
I see more similarities with the Aviator and GV80 than I do with the TX
well the TX will be cross shopped with all kinds of 3 row suvs, mainstream ones like the palisade, upmarket ones like the CX90, midsize luxury crossover ones that are smaller like the MDX, full size crossover ones like the x7, and full size body on frame ones like the grand wagoneer (still find it funny that there's more total cargo space in the TX compared to the non L grand wagoneer)
@@huanronghu4432
People looking at an X7 arent going to be looking at a vehicle half the price
I'd take the Lexus all the way. The Zoomy SUV is not something that really computes for me. Spaciousness, efficiency and a usable rear seat are what 3-rows should be about. Thanks for making the comparison video though. I'd buy the plug in 550h+ version.
That Lexus is more toyota looking than toyota
Lexus if buy and keep. Mazda if leasing. I don’t lease automobiles therefore, I’d rather buy Lexus or Toyota vehicles.
I would rather buy a BMW than buying Lexus at this price, or take the Mazda if I have low budget. In either case the Lexus is not the ideal choice
Thanks
Nice highlander! Wich trim is it?
The trim that look better than what you're driving.
3rd row the one lever at the top when you hold it you can slide the seat
Even if they has the same price, i pick the Mazda hands down just for the look, the qualiter in and a out and the V6 inline
If they fixed the 2nd row console and added more foot room in the 3rd, it could have been the best SUV on the market. Too small on the inside. Spot on review
I have a Mazda CX90 T PP and it does have a digital home link interior rear view mirror. It is an upgrade, not all of them come with this.
Based on the price and the worth I’ll go to mazda cx90 but surely they are both good cars and reliable cars 👌
Sam! No drag race??
My 08 Lexus RX 350 died at 230k miles after 7 years of dependable service but I did not like the luxury up charges on parts so I went with the Mazda 90
My 08 Mazda CX-9 is still running at almost 300K. It just won't due.
If you need or want more room inside and a Luxury Badge on it ? The Lexus is the way to go. Thanks Sam.
Lexus is for me!
That CX-90 is F. I.R.E.!
apples to oranges - a $30K Price difference is not the same category vehicle obv. 2 diff customers and classes. That being said, comendable for Mazda to be in this comparison, but, they still have a lot to prove in terms of their transmission on the PHEV and reliability of the V6 Engine in the CX here.
if talk about value for money,i think i prefer mazda cx90
Basically a Japanese made mid size SUV Mazda CX-90 vs Lexus TX (1st lexus mid size+ suv made in USA). UM thats a pretty easy choice especially when the Japanese Mazda suv drives like a sports car, faster top speed, superior handling/braking, and over $10k cheaper with 0 markup. Thats a no brainer choice. Only advantage of the TX is being the luxury version of Toyota with 10% boost in overall interior volume. Nah CX90 takes the cake, then Acura MDX and then American made Lexus TX.
Yes! I needed this
-Dad
Those two place second rows are a deal breaker when you have three kids and sometimes need to haul max cargo or additional friends around. Really compromises their practicality.
I am a big Lexus fan BUT Mazda hit it out of the park with their CX-90 design.
Mazda then dropped the ball by not putting in rear door unlock keyless entry for their flagship vehicle.
If they want to compete in the luxury segment that was one fail.
Hey what's a $30K difference? Pocket change 😳
Fumbling like an idiot in the Mazda, loving EVERYTHING about the Lexus...This dude is so transparent
Mazda been having a full size suv😂
Two Different Segments Lexus being luxury. A better comparison with the Mazda would be with the Grand Highlander or the Honda Pilot.
I have a cx90. You’re doing it wrong. In the cx90 you have to lift and hold the top/shoulder lever and it will tilt and slide forward.
Naveenthemachine, you in here buddy?
Mazda is the obvious choice if you are in Canada, because I don’t think Lexus would last long on your driveway. It is like a hot cake for car thieves
Absolutely Lexus!!
Mazda all the way. Lexus looks cheap as hell all over
That Mazda look way better than that minivan
I’ll take Mazda I need 30k this days
Did you compare the stereo ? The TX has s terrible stereo for this pricey vehicle. No bass or flat bass , Lexus need to update stereo firmware to boost the bass.
21 speakers? Really?
This is NOT the first time Mazda is offering a three row SUV. The CX 9 was three rows!
Yea i noticed that too lol 😂 the third row bottom cushions are practically pointless in the Lexus
Compare the Mazda to the Toyota Grand Highlander
That Lexus would look great in a Toyota showroom floor. Lexus, you should be ashamed of yourselves for such a lackluster effort.
This Mazda still needs more time in the oven. But from a looks standpoint, especially the exterior, it’s a winner! It looks like the more sophisticated vehicle next to the Lexus. The fact that Sam can dare to compare the these two vehicles is a huge compliment to Mazda.
The Mazda's LCD with a dial but no touch capability is deal breaker... Lexus all the way!!!
Interesting
Only Mazda
it is touch screen you can change that
Only on Apple car play
I would prefer if the door opened up by itself by several inches without touching the door especially if you have a disability or other issues thanks hello from oakville
Any one whos saying they pick the mazda prob didnt even buy it. Sales of the cx 90 are so abysmal they already slashed the price by 4000. So if you are a clueless fan boy and cant afford anything in this level i would suggest shutting your mouth.
Yeah the Mazdacx90 looks like a luxury car but doesn't drive like one. The Lexus looks and drives like one.
