- This is simply the best Pinto beans recipe you ever make. Trust me when I say this.
You don't need to add any salt. That alone is good for high blood pressure. There wad no pork used at all. I used only smoked turkey tails with a little bite of none salt seasoning.
All ingredients are listed below
1 1 tbsp Onion powder
2 1 tbsp Garlic powder
3 1/2 tsp Ground Cummin
4 1 tsp Paprika
5 1 tsp Cayenne pepper
6 Smoked meat of your choice (I used 2 Turkey tails)
7 1 cup dried beans
8 4 cup of broth (optional) your choice or water

I made this with turkey tails and vegetable stocks, and it's fire. Thanks, Markus, for putting me on to those turkey tails because I never tried them before until using your recipe.
Mine didn't thicken but were awesome just the same. I didnt stir til the 7 hour mark. Why mine didn't thicken
@@maryfeasley7775 You can turn the crockpot on high and take the top off for the last hour or you can make a cornstarch slurry to thicken the pinto beans.
Turkey tails are the best❤️
@@maryfeasley7775 Take the top off and put the crockpot on high for the last hour. A second way to get the beans to thicken is to add a cornstarch slurry for the last 30 minutes of cook time.

OMG! I grew up in Texas but am now retired in northern Michigan. We got 2 feet of snow yesterday, with another foot of snow falling today. I didn't want to go out today, since I live in the absolute middle of nowhere, so I just checked, and I actually have pinto beans on hand, and a couple of ham hocks and 1 link of andouille sausage in the freezer! I'm making your recipe tomorrow!
I'm so glad I stumbled over your video! Thank you, Friend!! 💜
I made these on 10/5/2023 oh my gawd absolutely delicious. I don’t eat meat and left out meat turkey (?) bone. Instead of water I used mushroom broth. Loved it!
This is my go to recipe since I found this video, thanks Markus!
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I too cook for myself and am so happy for small batch cooking.
Love your voice! Thank you for this video.
You are so welcome! And thank you for watching
I used garlic, tomatoes, chili powder, onion, sage leaf, italian spices, red pepper and chopped up fried bacon. Who doesn't love bacon? It's BACON!
Bacon is good I bet it taste great 👍🏾
I made these beans today. They are absolutely fantastic. I would never have guessed that they were cooked with turkey tails instead of ham hocks. I will definitely be making this again and I hope that I can give this recipe to others. Thank you so much for posting this.
Thanks for watching and trying it out
Excellent recipe, sir! I'm definitely trying this out.
Dear Markus...I made your recipe but I didn't have paprika so instead used Chipotle powder and onion powder instead of garlic powder...there's a blizzard coming so didn't wanna venture out...point of fact I do indeed love pork but have been looking for a meat with less fat cuz I'm gaining too much weight going crazy with the crockpot but money saving hearty meals that go a long way is interest to me so I look forward to more crockpot recipes 😀 thank you

Lol I'm crazy half the time. Thanks for watching
Ohh man that’s looks so good…cooking them today!
Here in Canada, turkey tails are called the popes nose😄
Thanks so much. Bean looking for something so simple
Looks really good.
Thank you.
Fabulous recipe, thank you!
Thanks and Thank you for watching
I know how to cook but I wanted to try a new recipe this go round and I chose yours. I got mixed up and stirred at the 4 hour mark so hopefully they come out creamy like yours. I've already turned my heat to high to cook the last 4 hours because I don't think my crocpot gets as hot as yours or maybe it's the amount of beans and meat I'm cooking but yes I've turned it up and am going to take my top off at the 6 hour mark instead of 7 and hopefully I can get these results. I really hate I stirred them already but all in all that's for the recipe. The broth was an excellent idea.
Excellent Recipe" i tried it and it came out amazing. Thank you
Thanks for watching and letting me how you liked it. That means a lot.to me
It is a party in your tummy! Your personality is pure fun!
Thank you😁
Makes pooping so easy ☆☆☆
Let's go!🎉💪🏾
This looks so good! It's supposed to snow tomorrow where I'm at so this would be great for lunch and dinner. I have smoked turkey legs too. Thank you!
Lol
going to try this, looks so good!
Thanks for watching
Yes thank you 🙏
Thankyou for sharing.
Up here in northern Michigan, I'm probably going to have to make my own smoked turkey tails. I can find smoked turkey drums, but that's about it. During fall turkey hunting season, I only harvested 1 wild turkey in the backyard. It never occurred to me to take more and then smoke them. I was only thinking of Thanksgiving and I LOVE roast turkey, although I saved the tail and neck for making stock and gravy.
I'll get a spring turkey license, and smoke some.
Oh God don't tell me you kill your own Turkey?! 😝
Great video!!!!
Thank you for posting :)
And Thank you for watching
Dang that looks yummy! I was looking for a pinto bean recipe with ham bone sn stumbled on that! Looks great
This is a great one here too

I’m gonna try vegetable broth. Thanks
Hi! I tried this recipe last week and my family loved it! I presoaked my beans and had a whole lot of extra liquid at the end, which I thickened with a cornstarch slurry but it was still more like soup. Today I'm making it again and had presoaked the beans so I'm going to half the liquid and see how we go. Thank you for the recipe!
Thanks for watching
Did it come out thicker with less water?
@@mtstlouis80 yes! I put far less water because the beans were already soaked, less than half of the liquid called for. It was thicker that time. I barely covered the beans with liquid this time
That veggie broth looks legit! Gotta check out that recipe.
Thank you and thanks for watching
Looks good, but make 2 other bean recipes with cumin, so looking for another recipe. Liked your presentation, thank you! I'll check out your other recipes!
I like your cooking!
Thank you and thanks for watching
Made this tonight, WOW! Best beans I've ever made in the slow cooker !
Thanks for watching
First time I've ever seen someone take off the crockpot lid to reduce the liquid. Might have to try that idea next time I cook some beans. Thanks for sharing, looks mighty tasty.
Thanks for watching
I lpinto. Liquid specially if I'm making some cornbread to go with them pintos.
Using broth instead of water is a game changer
I will try to find some turkey tails in the future! Thanks again, Friend! ❄️🦃❄️
Thank you for watching
I just cooked the beans any ideal to get them to thicken like yours
Just watched a handful of I guess southwest style pinto beans and none of them used any spices or pepper or smoked meat and I just knew they would be bland as all get out. This looks promising.
Thanks for watching
Looks great
Thanks for watching
@@MarkusWITH_a_k I'm going to use instant pot hope it looks like yours.
Yes sir!!!
What were the measurements for the spices?
Thank you. My pinto beans came out great. No meat.
Like a Boss.
I know its sad an old guy like me never cooked dry pintos before but I can let you know in 8 hours or so if they came out good. thanks for a simple recipe that even I could follow
You got this friend 🙌
@@MarkusWITH_a_k thanks so much they came out great!
@@MarkusWITH_a_kI liked the comment, how encouraging
This looks great! I am hoping you can clear something up...at one point you say to take the lid off and cook the last hours without the lid. You then cut to you taking the lid off to see how they came out. Can you clarify what length of time is with lid off? Thanks!
Yes just remove the lid at the last hour. Let cook the last hour without the lid same heat. Don't not adjust the heat.
Gread video thanks, our family usually cooks bacon with it and we eat it with corn bread!
Yes corn bread compliments it well thanks for watching
No need to soak the beans overnight?
I was wondering if anyone else used broth. Looks delicious!!
Humm I dont too much sodium in store bought broth. It is great too. Thanks for watching
Using broth instead of water is a game changer
Finally a recipe for a small amount of beans, is that a 2qt crockpot?
Thank you. Yes, it is a 2qt, and thanks for watching
Mines was still very soupy but I also did a quick soak on my beans. Next time I’m gonna use just dry beans. It was good though.
I just did a pot of red beans and I soaked them overnight. Totally messed up the usual outcome. I suspect that the beans soaked up so much water that I should have reduced the recipe to 4 cups of water instead of 5 good luck I’m gonna throw my beans out for the crows 😂😂😂🤬
I hate soupy beans. I love them creamy !!!
Hey buddy, thanks for the video! Did you do any soak or just a rinse & cook?
Thanks
No soak but I did rinse them first
Appreciate it. Mane I got impatient & went on with a quick soak. So they might finish sooner now possibly. Wife sleep, bet them nostrils gone be opening shortly!
Oh that's funny Paparika. Well you certainly sound like an educated man. 🇨🇱
This looks really good! I didn’t know you could make thick/creamy pinto beans in a crockpot. Did you leave it to cook without the lid for the last hour to make sure the juice thickens up?
Yes I sure did. Also leave the heat on high. Thank you for watching and thanks for subscribing if you subscribed.
Great question and I love that there is already a response! Woohoo 🙌🏻
I'm glad you guys like it. Just so happens I made i spicy pit today with ghost pepper added
@@MarkusWITH_a_k did u add corn starch
@@Liveme6 nope not at all
Yummy!! I'm making beans roast and hot water corn bread and maybe mixed veggies or sweet peas..Do you not eat pork? Let me tell you I had the corona a few months ago and my taste buds changes..I don't like a lot of port and now I like onions🤣😎
Nope no pork at all. Its good you beat corona God is good.
@@MarkusWITH_a_k thank you 💜
I always use broth, water just dilutes the flavor however I was wondering I never saw you put beans in the cooker?
Lol trust me no jokes here it was the one cup of dry the beans you saw. Give it a try I guarantee it will work. The water works just as good also but, with less sodium if your using store bought broth.
This looks so good! I have to watch the sodium intake, so even though you didn't use ant salt, but doesn't the smoke turkey tails have a good amount of sodium in them? Also, what are your ingredients for making your own vegetable broth? The last question is when do you turn the crock pot to high?
I like your style and simple way of cooking. Thank you so much for your help.😊
At what point were the beans added?
Beans was the first thing in pot. Before any thing. Just a cup of dry beans if you're following the recipe i did.
Did you soak your pinto beans overnight? Also, did you cook the beans on low the entire 8hrs or just high the last hour with the lid off?
No I didn't soak them at all. I cooked on low for 7 hours and the last hour turn to high with lid off
@@MarkusWITH_a_k thank you!! If I did soak them how long does it take to cook in crockpot? Does it take less time to cook?
@@melbaknowlton yes it would take less time but I never soaked
@@melbaknowlton Thank you for watching
"Good soup"
I have no idea what turkey tails are? And the other video I watched said something about ham or hog hocks and I don't know what they are either 🤔
Just ask for them by name they are well known in stores
Ok thanks
But I live in Rhode Island are they well known here?🤔
I'm not sure, but anywhere they sell turkey or ham it should be
I’m confused about the timing you said the meat for 8 hours on low, add brand an bay leaf, if wanted for 4 hours. I’m confused when you Sa it’s now been 7 hours? Please help I smell it and mouth watered already.
Thanks for sharing
8 hour.cook time, lid off the last hour use a bay leaf if you choose
If you leave the lid off for the last hour, why is it you showed taking the lid off to show how thick the beans are?
I covered them up after they were finished and forgot I needed to show you guys the finished product
Pap ri- ka.
What made it creamy?
The juices taking the lid off letting it evaporate some
Did you soak your beans?
not at all
Thought you were leaving the top off the last hour so why you took the top off at the end 🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️
no condensation build up
Did you soak your beans before cooking?
Nope
But I will soak only if beans are old
@@MarkusWITH_a_k Oh wooow!
@Heather Smith that's only because older beans take longer to cook. There still good to eat though
Been on low for 8 hours now still crunchy
How.long you had your crockpot
@@MarkusWITH_a_k few months now I've had the same problem with other ones 15 hours and cooked on high but crockpot was over 10 years old
@@susanlatter7388 wow 15 hours
@@susanlatter7388 next time try 8 hours on high just be sure to be at home cooking that long on high
@@MarkusWITH_a_k last time I did it on high

🙂 Thank you for watching
You forgot to tell when you put your beans in
Lol
I have a 2 quart crockpot, which is perfect for this recipe because I’m the only one that eats pinto beans. Can you tell me how much spices you put in the beans? And do you have a recipe for the vegetable broth? Thank you
The measurements for the spices are in the description.
Did I understand you to say that you cooked your beans for 6 hours with the lid on and the last hour take the lid off?
7 hours
@The_HeadSavage_Show Okay so 7 hours with the lid on and then the last hour off? I did do that but mine didn't boil the last hour 😭 I ended up making a slur to thicken the juice. Thank you 🫶🏾
Not sure what went wrong but you do want the juice to be thick not runny
Lawd child as the old folk say??"You put your foot into them beans"
Thank you and Thanks for watching
Did you say papa Rica!
Lol yeah something like that its the humor in me
PINO Beans? Nice title
pino beans?
🤣🤣😂😂😂😇may peace be with you.
Thanks
creamy pino beans lmao
Umm hmm….
Oh come on man, you could have poured the rest of that vegetable broth in.
🙄🙄🙄
Maybe next time if there more left but I wanted to use just the 4 so people can get it right
I've must of watched over 50 videos where a crock pot was used for the recipe. There's always ONE thing every single video fails to mention... "the size of the crock pot".
Size shouldn't matter
That’s what I said but she thought different 🤦🏾♂️
Much respect for refraining from that swine my brotha! Kick those crabs, lobster, alligator, and any other animal forbidden by the 1 & only "True GOD" to the curb as well!!!

Love ya already bro I got the same crockpot lol
