Elton was always 'it' for me but checkin on his words, I agree with him, Bruce is in a class by himself! I love love love Bruce's music! Oh how I love this rendition! ❤❤ ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
What a humble musician who let the other pianist take the main solo, then during his own solo( while he is tickling the keys to death) he brings in a shredding guitar all for the sake of an absolute banger of a live performance… Bravo to everyone!
Sonny Emory absolutely nailing his part on drums, for anyone unaware this is an example of some of the world’s finest musicians coming together. Absolutely incredible 👌👌👌
Sonny Emory came to mind, but I wasn't sure he was the one. The last time I saw him was on Drumeo's channel. I've always liked Sonny's neat drum notes.
I like how Bruce had a little slip at 5:07, and completely embraces it in the next bar haha, just something I noticed. He's really is such a great artist
So grateful to you for pointing that out - it gives me a smile of joy (and a gasp of admiration) now each time I re-listen! God bless you, Ethan. In the context of this (truly) blessed music, your tiny comment has transmitted love to me across thousands of miles and 5 months of time. These are the small miracles, and the signs that things matter, and nothing is random in a universe in which we are loved and treasured..
The song that started it all for BH. This version is the very definition of professional musicians seriously on their game. So damn tight. I had to listen again, especially that last few minutes. So much sound. Trying to figure out who is hitting it hardest. Bruce slaying the piano, the bass in the groove, the guitar player... holy shit and then, keeping it all together, the drummer. Damn.
I work on guitars for some world famous folks. Some of them "guitar heroes". Sometimes I work deep in the night when no-one else is around. No outside sounds. That's when I put on this band .. to get me happier and enjoy my work. ... and I do BETTER work because of the positive energy this band puts out there. SO co-supportive. SO communal and uplifting ... SO much in the realm of spirit, to me. This stuff is inspirational. ... WOW !!! .... THANK YOU Bruce and that AMAZING band.
I agree - I was floored by this version and I loved this song in the first place. They are jamming and taking their cue from his exuberant, passionate piano playing. Incredible.
I love this...I once stayed up all night watching this concert....the performance , the arrangements, and the improvisations...and the smiles on those faces of the musicians..enjoying every minute... Bruce...precious...and I had to get up to go to work early next am 😀
He's amazing. He seems to just try new things, and the band is SOOOOOO good they just pick up on it and it becomes this classic arrangement - that perhaps never existed before that moment! Every song a thing of excitement!
Indescribable joy I get watching this performance and listening to this great Singer-Songwriter. The band is off the chain! Greetings from Uganda 🇺🇬👊🏿🖤
Who are the "Noisemakers" ? What a band ! The way Bruce Hornsby de constructed the song and did it with this band deserves a standing ovation ! They are enjoying themselves and that is fantastic.
Real americana and real preaching coming outta that Steinway man they can never break us as long as we keep our arts alive it's what brings us together . One of the most culturally telling and important billboard chart toppers of all time. This song is ammunition against division ➗ ❤️ god bless Bruce and his band .
Don't know how many times a week I watch this video, it's just that good! The atmosphere, the enjoyment you see on all of the musician's faces, that syncopation at the end...just magnificent! It's just an example on how to make a great song even greater!
Yeah, I was hoping to hear mainly piano in a Live version and not a bunch of guitars to drown out the sound of a beautiful piano..but I'm not one to hate this, this is 'ok'. Either way, I've always loved the song. It just completely relaxes me and makes me happy for some reason. Yeah I'll upload a good live piano version of it I just found, I downloaded it and changed the speed of it to pretty much match the original; the live version's speed was too fast. There ya go =) ua-cam.com/video/PXLxuz4GCG8/v-deo.html
Man. This just is what music is all about. The keyboardist face of absolute tears of joy is unforgettable. I've played for over 30 years now and I Just know what he's feelin. Oh yea
At 5:07 Bruce made a mistake, then within 1 second decided he should own the mistake, then played it again a couple of times just for fun, "fixing" the mistake and making the whole thing sound right. That's a talented musician right there.
I learned to write music and decided to make the piano my instrument of choice I credit Bruce for having birthed the gift of music in me. Thank you Mr, Hornsby.Tim E wood

This is what a 'live' version is all about - it takes the original great song and turns it into something so much more. It builds and builds, bit by bit - never too much tension (noise), never too little (boring) - all the while taking us on a journey to heights we may not have thought possible.
I am 63 and me too. Unfortunately, travel for musicians has killed this summer for everyone. And with the way America has lost its mind-please don't visit Canada this year! Not until you decide on using some common sense-wear a mask. Cheers, from Toronto ☮
Well, let's put it this way, Stedman. If you don't see him before you die, you will probably get something a lot like this AFTER anyway. There is a little bit of heaven in the music, is there not? Thanks be to the immensely inspiring and loving Holy Spirit, whose multitude of works we can hardly even begin to understand....
Bruce and his band are of magnificent professionalism and quality - Something the average music listener of nowadays won't appreciate, but the music passionates will
BRUCE HORNSBY AND THE RANGE's "THE WAY IT IS" is all about: 1. Separation of the rich and the poor. 2. Social issues from the perspective of someone who supports racial segregation. 3. The enactment of the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 - "to give those who ain't got a little more." 4. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was regarded as a major triumph in the civil rights campaign against workplace discrimination.
Every once and a while i come back to this song was born in 1991 but i like all The classics way more then i like songs of 2000 and above. And eveytime i see this clip it just seems to amaze me how a band can play so wel together and all the while visably enjoy them selves as much as these guys, pure love for music performed excellent i will always be amazed when i play this clip. Hats off music just dont hit the way it does some old songs performed live does just an enjoyment to the ears really
Amazing!! The entire performance, the set crew, the videographers, the studio level talent is wonderful. I love the slide bass big smiles and the Mark Knofler influenced guitarist. The rhythm keyboardist looks like he is having the time of his life with that giant open smile! Such a departure from the original with the skill oozing from the piano just about 20 years later? I loved the original tune at 16 years old and this just takes it up a few notches to perfect! Nothing like a live revamp with every musican in the zone! But from 2004, this celebrates our love for the artist. ❤
I have loved this song forever, and now hearing this version just takes it to a whole new level. Sonny Emory on drums adds an unbelievable funk vibe to it never before seen, but is so magnificent.
Are you sure about that? Check out Way it is tour 86-87 album. That live cut is pretty damn close to the album and so is the other tracks. There’s scenes from the Southside tour playlist on here too that version and tracks are pretty good also along with Hornsby and the range live during the night on the town tour 1990 on here as well all three versions are better than this. He’s still good but his material and live shows have become way too jazzy for me. I prefer his more pop mainstream commercial sound that he had with his four and five piece band the range.
Bruce, and his many bands are my CHURCH and my renewal . I've worked on guitars for many world famous folks. THIS guy and this band light me up / makes me feel joy/ and any degree of hope I might have left to hang on to. Thirty-three more years later, I am a full time musician still in love with playing and performing. So I guess I owe you a high five Bruce Hornsby, a HUGE high five! Love you man, thank you for doing what you do! I hope you are great and can still feel fondly about all the amazing things you have achieved along the way. It was the greatest honour to be introduced to such a beautiful artform by such a beautiful person and performer. Thank you thank you thank you Bruce, will remember that moment forever! Amazing band too ;)
I don't play the piano, I hardly play some chords..but if I could choose one song only that I could play - like as a gift or a miracle: this would be the song!!
2024....who is listening? 🎉 According to Elton John, Mr Bruce Hornsby is the best piano player ever

Love how all the musicians are smiling at each other✨:') Gorgeous.💖 Lucky people. Xxx
We should also appreciate the sound engineers and video producers, the performance looks as if recorded yesterday. Wonderful.
Oh yes..

One of the rules of jazz improvisation: if you make a mistake, repeat it like you meant to do it!
I noticed it too! Amazing!
@@slickjames2541 My guitarist friend says "one wrong note is a mistake, two or more wrong notes is jazz!"
Repetition Legitimizes.
I don't care how Bruce delivers it he's the best they'll never be another Bruce Hornsby!

All the band members look like they love what they do. This is as close to perfection as it is. I also listen to this group on a weekly basis. ❤
I dont know what it is about this version of the song but it just speaks to the soul
