The phone calls and texts, and how relatively methodical Chris acted, i don't see how this was ever deemed a 'sudden act of rage.' I completely agree he was not "himself" and after the fact we learned he had severe CTE but its just crazy to me how he did all that, but was coherent enough to leave calm/casual messages for Chavo. He even had, and i hate to use this word, he had the conscience enough to sedate Daniel before he killed him. Wild, man. Just wild.

It's highly likely the death of Chris Benoit's best friend Eddie Guerrero was the catalyst to what happened. Then there was all the damage to his brain likely from all the diving headbutts and the concussions. Benoit's autopsy showed that he had the brain of an 80 year old man with Alzheimer's and severe CTE. The whole thing was tragic.

It's easy to look at this 15 years on and say they botched their reaction. If they had said nothing that first night they would have been completely vilified by the fans for not giving him a tribute or ringing the bell for him. Everyone already knew about the deaths before Vince was on TV that night. It was a damned if you do damned if you don't moment. They could have just cancelled the show and said "we're all in shock", and then did the tribute show if it was a home invasion. It was extremely naive at best- I'm pretty sure that, when a family are all found dead, it's far more often a murder suicide than a home invasion. At the very least, it's unlikely home invaders would kill a little boy.

I remember when this first happened, I told my mom that this kind of reminded me of the Donnie Moore story. Donnie Moore was a baseball pitcher for the California (now Los Angeles) Angels from 1985-88. He infamously gave up a home run to Dave Henderson in Game 5 of the 1986 American League Championship Series against the Boston Red Sox after only needing one more strike to send the Angels to the World Series for the first time.
Just three years later that summer, Donnie Moore (who was no out of baseball) shot his wife during a domestic dispute before turning the gun on himself. He's wife Tonya, miraculously survived but it has been said that Donnie killed himself in the presence of at least one of his young son's.

It wasn't as bad. Sure, WWE gets mocked now for rushing this show but it gave the wrestlers and the audience a chance to say goodbye to the wrestler Benoit and to grief before the real person made this impossible.
I don't believe in a conspiracy. I believe, Benoit killed his wife because of a mental illness as a result of his brain damage. Then he had to kill his son and himself because he couldn't see his son grew up in a world where Benoit killed his mother. Poor souls, all of them.
What I can't understand, that Chavo didn't do anything after receiving the text. I mean, I don't think, he could have saved anyone but those texts, the ones with the dogs and the adress, were clear red flags.

Oh man... I remember EXACTLY where I was when I found out the news. And I mean EXACTLY. Where I was standing, what I was wearing, the conversation, and the time on the clock.
Long story short, an indie wrestler I worked with called the store I was at (he was manager at a different store) and requested me directly to my manager to tell me the news.
I was floored, didn't quite believe it, and went on about my day, waiting for the PPV that night where my best friend was taking me to his friend's place for the first time.
While I gave the worst first impression ever, these two guys I met that night eventually have become my absolute best friends, and the big brothers I never had. I WORSHIP them.
In fact to this day, we always "joke", and talk about how the night we met was the night Benoit killed himself (Sunday, June 24, 2007).
Despite what happened, Benoit will always and forever be in my Top 10.

There was this kid I grew up with; he was younger than me. Sorta looked up to me, you know. We did our first work together, worked our way out of the street. During Prohibition, we ran molasses into Canada…made a fortune. Later on he had an idea to build a city out of a desert stop-over for GI’s on the way to the West Coast. That kid’s name was Moe Greene, and the city he invented was Las Vegas. This was a great man, a man of vision and guts. And there isn’t even a plaque, or a signpost or a statue of him in that town! Someone put a bullet through his eye. No one knows who gave the order. When I heard it, I wasn’t angry; I knew Moe, I knew he was head-strong, talking loud, saying stupid things. So when he turned up dead, I let it go. And I said to myself, this is the business we’ve chosen; I didn’t ask who gave the order, because it had nothing to do with business!

People still say it to this day, "I can't believe he could do this" ... or words to that effect, it would not have even been a consideration in their mind that Chris had anything to do with it ... and if they hadn't done a tribute show and he did have nothing to do with it you'd be making a video now moaning about them NOT doing a tribute show. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

  • @Moose6340
    @Moose6340 2 роки тому +5

I can understand why WWE did the tribute show even if they rushed it way too fast...Benoit was one of their biggest and most popular stars, and at the time the fact that he'd murdered the two of them and then killed himself was not YET in wide circulation. It was still being reported as a triple murder/home invasion. So it's only logical in WWE-land, if hair-trigger, that they'd throw together a tribute for him. But...when they did that tribute show and then the word came out about what really happened, WWE overreacted the other way and completely erased him from history to try and cover for the fact that they'd just done an emotional tribute to a murderer. If they'd waited, perhaps they would not have felt compelled to un-person Benoit from his history with WCW/WWE.

Fair enough. But they would only show during her time with Kevin and that would look wrong paying tribute to Chris and his carrer and then tribute to his wife Nancy when she was with some other guy and that would be dissrespect to dead body & person imo. Imagine if your dad divorced your mom and then he passes and your step mom would only like to keep the memories and make some kinda of tribute with living with him but you'd like to remember also memories with him and your mom so. Imo atleast I think that would be dissrespect to your dad's dead body. Plus they would maybe show her private life which I dont think either Chris or her would like to be put out to public because we all know Chris didnt like to talk about his personal life to anyone apart from couple of ppl mainlly great late Eddie

The Chris Benoit tribute show on RAW made sense. The company and its performers were unaware of the facts and could not conceive of the idea that Benoit committed a murder suicide. By going ahead with it early in the investigation, it gave them the opportunity to pay final tribute to Chris who was well respected and so important to the success of the WWE.
Also, the WWE responses to alleged steroid rage or CTE as the explanation behind the tragedy are reasonable to me. It does seem all very speculative, especially the roid rage sensationalization. Did CTE have a role - maybe? It's likely a complex combination of factors we will never understand, and as you say, Chris is solely to blame at the end of the day. I think if Chris was here today, he would agree that he is solely to blame. If someone tried to provide explanations to him, he would probably argue that every drug and head shot he took was a result of his own free will.
The CTE lawsuit against the WWE from former talent is pathetic in my eyes. They decided to do it did for a living. Are former NHL or NFL players going to launch a lawsuit against those organizations as well? Bullshit litigation from sue happy lawyers.
