In my recent Oda campaign Takeda Shingen died simmilar way. He just went alone with his unit and climbed the wall with over 4 archer units on it. Just as he stepped in the castle he was killed almost instantly by some ashigaru. Didn't even had a chance to draw his sword, was simply slashed in the face. I didn't even notice this untill i watched a replay

Watch Skallagrim's video where he blocks arrows with a sword. With a lot of training you can get pretty good at stopping a single arrow, but it would still be stupid to try this in battle because its much easier to just get out of the way. Also i imagine it would be very hard to see an arrow coming from the sky.

But fr tho... Imagine irl, you trained your whole life then an army came and attacked you town. You took up arms and joined in the fight for your home. Surrounded and outmanned, you hold your own against a horde of Samurai, your katana whistling thru the air as you cut into your foes 1 by 1... They retreat.. And as you clean off your sword, confident in the victory for your own life, you get showered with arrows, hundreds of them, for just you.
At the final hours of battle, a group of soldier was circled by overwhelming enemy, but they still fight with honor and loyalty. One by one, the soldiers fall, but dragging more enemy dead together. After a fiece fight, only one soldier last, he alone drive away whole enemy's army, but the fate is so cruely that make he die in rain of arrows. I don't think Leonidas can do better
"Fight in the shade" was just their way of saying "Then we get to die a different way". Sing your death song loud, with the taste of blood in your mouth, as the final blow falls. Never let the enemy see you fear death.
Sherif El Sharkawy I agree though he died with honour it would of been even a greater death if he was killed with katanas.Also it seems that his fellow samurai or lord retreated and he held them of or something.
Man, I still remember the epic defence on this map, where my units were outnumbered 5 to 1, but each of them still killed at least two and made them waste all of their arrows. None even tried to retreat, I was so proud of them.

Can you blame the guy? He was just defend his lord's castle T_T On another note, love how polite the rest of the enemy samurais were, standing there and watching as they got a turn to fight xD
+Wolfbane_41 Well, that was for 2 things. 1. The 1 on 1 code of the samurai. They never fought 2 on 1 or more because that was shameful. 2. The real reason: The games engine cant handle multiple animations at the same time, but think of it as the 1 on 1 code and you become a little bit less dissapointed. Lol.

Depends on what ere you like. Personally i like samurai, so my favourite is shogun 2, altough i am excited for TW Warhammer, as i like warhammer fantasy.

In Richer lands Samurai were able to afford Katanas and No-datchi so they were the main weapons. While in poorer areas Naginatas, bows and Yari tended to be the main weapon.
General: Daimyo, our hero is defeating enemies left and right! Daimyo: Very good. *30 seconds later* General: Daimyo, our hero has caused the enemy to retreat! Daimyo: Mhmm.. *30 seconds after that* General: Shit, daimyo, he just got arrow spammed.. wait a second, is he laughing?
There was a real life last stand quite like this. A single samurai was buying time for his friend so that he may commit sepuku, And so he begins by defending him from the enemy that were after him. It started of like this video where the enemy is unable to take him down, so the enemy general decided to fall back and summon the archers. A hail of arrows is released after this, impaling the samurai multiple times. And the best part was that the arrows pinned him to a wall, giving the illusion that he was still standing after getting struck multiple times. The enemy army were now too scared to go and finish him off because they thought he was invincible. Edit: The samurai's name was Saito Benkei. It appears I was wrong about him being pinned to a wall... He died standing.

Once I was playing Rome 2 and this one unit had 4 men left but kept fighting, and fell to a slinger (they were hoplites) and then the next turn I got a one eyed veteran added to my family, with a quote about “some bloke with a sling”. I find that too ironic. The best part is one of the men in that United’s standing in front of my general face to face when it happened, so I like to think he got hit so save the general, but then cane back
what kind of crazy accuracy boosting mod or what are you using to make the archers shoot that 3 foot spread of arrows? I have archers with over 90 in accuracy, and they still couldn't hit a tree if they shot into the forest.

Everyone talking about the guy 1v50ing all those guys, but no one talking about how an entire unit of archers shot through one small window 500 feet away
If you want an explanation for this insane act it's quite simple. Total war makes close quarters fighting so that the less people there are, the more people get killed as it tries to make up for the low numbers of the ranks. I had this is Empire Total War, one man killed 50 using his bayonet, it was insane. However he lived to tell the tale, I kept his 2 man group in London for the rest of the game.
Amazing game and this is so unique! Kudos on recording it! BTW, Shogun II probably has the best unit combat animations of any RTS, Turn based Strategy (including all Total war games) games. It's so polished and cool that the latest iterations can't catch up.

If you want an explanation for this insane act it's quite simple.
Total war makes close quarters fighting so that the less people there are, the more people get killed as it tries to make up for the low numbers of the ranks.
I had this is Empire Total War, one man killed 50 using his bayonet, it was insane. However he lived to tell the tale, I kept his 2 man group in London for the rest of the game.

BTW, Shogun II probably has the best unit combat animations of any RTS, Turn based Strategy (including all Total war games) games. It's so polished and cool that the latest iterations can't catch up.
