You can also use it to fast marinate meat. Put the meat and marinade into the jar and use the vacuum sealer on it. As the air is vacuumed out of the meat it's drawing in the marinade to replace it.
I have owned my Foodsaver for many years at the time I bought a unit back 16 yrs ago it came with so many extras one being a canister in 2-sizes to put jars inside that are liquid or powdery products as well as reusing store bought jars like Ragu sauce that has the pop top. It also came with the marinade container thanks for the reminder to find it and use it.
I buy big old briskets when on sale and yes they are normally pretty tough, but you can feel the meat through the plastic and get a maybe not so tough brisket. I cut it up in steak size pieces and freeze them in freezer bags.I use them for stew meat , in soups casseroles whatever and If you marinate the more tender ones you would be surprised how good they can get plus the taste on tougher meat has a better flavor then the soft tender more expensive stuff I have found. I will be using the sealer to help marinate my "steaks" or just the stew meat etc ,thanks for the tip!
speaking of reusing lids. I've Found that dropping used lids in a boiling pot, turning off the heat and just letting them sit for about 10-15 min. Then rinse them in some cold water and dry, can extend their life. Doing this allows the rubber to relax back to its original shape. Just do a visual inspection of the seal after the fact, and you'll be able to see the ones that revive. It doesn't always save a lid, but its defiantly saved me a little cash over the years. For me this Hack was born out of necessity, when I discovered that I was out of lids one day and couldn't get to the store.
I'm 75 & live alone on my homestead. I can't eat normal portions of most store-bought things fast enough before they spoil, like sausage, so I vacuum seal what I open but do not use immediately. Speaking of preserving things. One time I got some organic oranges and there was some mold in the bag. From experience I know that they go bad very quickly. So I washed them with vegetables cleaner, and dunked them in brine (salty water). Took them out but did not rinse them. Dried them and put them in the frig. They were just fine after 3 weeks, so eat two of them and left the last one for a long term experiment. Lol I still have it after 4 years. I completely dried up after a year or so, but never went bad. Something I learned by accident 👍
Your content is so helpful to my wife and I. We have gone back and watched your older videos. You have been sharing your knowledge for a long time. We are grateful.
I've noticed that "open kettle" canning with leftovers in the fridge really is amazing. I didn't know it was a thing. I just use my jars for everything because I have so many and it makes easy lunch prep with leftovers and the fit better in the fridge space. (I don't throw stuff out until it's fuzzy, then the chickens get it)
THANK YOU! silly me, I've had this thing for quite a while and loved it for my dry/shelf goods, but for some reason it never dawned on me to use it for the fridge for produce and other stuff. that's huge! we're constantly trying to not throw produce away. this will help hugely with our zero waste goals
Me too on the fresh produce goals... someone posted above that a salt bath after a veggie wash(I'll just use baking soda) preserved her oranges... I'm going to try that with strawberries. Don't rinse after the bath.
Pro tip... use alkaline batteries or lithium ion rechargeables. The lithium ion rechargeable has 1.5 volts. NiCad and other regular rechargeables are 1.25 volts. The higher voltage gives a better vacuum.
Your FoodSaver has a Mason jar connection, but I have read more reviews saying to NOT use it for jars than to use it because it will kill your machine prematurely, so I bought a brake bleeder and lid kit for our jars. It works great for us, but this looks more convenient.

It's 28 bucks (marked down from 40 on Amazon as of 10.13.24. ps: I bought a mason lid remover - I always have to use a washcloth over the lids to protect my old fingers, but sometimes they can be really tough to remove! :))

We eat a lot of veggies (we're vegan) cooked or fresh, we love hearty salads, soups, tofu, etc., but often what we get doesn't last more than a week at most. What you have shown here is a total game changer! Thank you!
For someone with little cash and no vacuum device, this is a great entry option! After using a Foodsaver for years (~$80 when purchased), I invested in an Avid Armor USV32 chamber vacuum sealer (~$570). If you have the discretionary cash, it's performance is exponentially better than any other device I've used in the past, and one can vac bag liquids like soups, sauces, or unfrozen meats for the freezer. Plus, if you have a vacuum canister big enough, you can seal things like a large partially used jar of sauce in it's original container (within the canister) and then remove from canister and store it in the fridge. Same concept can be used to repurpose those sauce jars for pantry dry goods. I also put unused tomato paste in it's original can into a pint canning jar (which fits in the chamber, as does those little jars of bread yeast), then put the jar in the fridge. You could probably do the same with that $23 device. 🤔Sorry, I sometimes talk too much! 🤐
I need one of these. I wish you had an affiliate link. You deserve something for selling these. Plus I want the specific one you have as it's withstood the test of much use.
1:52 - A lot of what you say is true and good advice however, I preserve lots of things in many ways, and I promise you, a vacuum sealer is NOT stronger than a pressure canner. Not even close.
what a cool gadget! I've got one of those vaccum sealers (with a jar vaccum) up in the closet but I don't use it once I open something because I don't want to drag it down and get it all set up. I love this idea!
Did not know fruit would last loke that 😊 thank you for the great tips. I love my vaccum sealer, my son got me one a few years ago now using mason jars keeps the mice out
I use mine to store oxygen absorbing packets after opening the pack of 10. Saves big when you are able to buy in bulk. Also use it to store my freeze dried goods I am only using a bit of, since freeze dried food is hydrophilic and will rehydrate from the ambient air. Super recommend the product. Great video!
Wow! I love this. I have one of these but didn't think about all of these uses. My salads always go bad before I can finish them. I double recipes and can put them in the frig since we don't need to use them up 4 days in a row. Thank you!!!
A hack we've employed, water glassed avocados, unlike eggs , use only non chlorinated water , no lime. It's tough finding and keeping a good avocado. They do take on more moisture but remain in good shape for weeks.
I'm really enjoying your content. Vacuum sealing leftovers-a great idea for campers/van dwellers who have feeble freezers but adequate refrigeration-saves money big time by making large portions and easy reheating while on the road.
I have been using a make shift vacuum pump and those sealer tools that work with mason jars with the hole it the center, they work great "BUT" its a bit of a pain to get all the gear out to do it...I like this gadget...quick and easy. Real slick! Didnt even know they were available. Thanks! Will be getting one...or two.
My partner bought one of these recently. We love it! I sealed Caroway seed, Celery seed, and all kinds of dried beans. Also, I sealed leftover lettuce, grape tomatoes, and sweet peppers. Kept them fresh for a week in the fridge! No more wasting food! 🤩🤩
This gadget I had seen for a while now. Your video already "sealed the deal" with your presentation, @ 6:50 mins, the idea that you can test used lids to see if they are good for future use, that is worth double the cost of this device.
Just found your channel and loved your tips and those lovely people who added their tips. I’m thinking of starting canning, so I’ve hit the subscribed button.

Hi, I just found your channel, thanks for the informative video and demo. I have lots of these jars and lids and usually store dry foods in them but never thought to vacuum seal them. This will be my next purchase. I'm going to watch the egg powder video, next.😀
Great tutorial, many thanks. I have this gadget but didn't know all these great uses for fresh cut fruits/veggies!!! lol yes that sealed!, sorry about your fingernails. Thank you for sharing. All the best!
I've never heard of dry canning but I'm always looking for ways to save food and money. I love this idea for the fruit and salads because I can never eat them all before they go bad. This is really looks like the way to go.
I have a Food Saver, and that has been a useful tool in the kitchen. It also has a device for vacuuming a jar. My concern for using vacuum on all of my foods, is that the vacuum will pull the volatile elements out of the food item as well as the water. With coffee, teas and herbs, that would not be a good thing. For foods like nuts, I just put them in a jar in my freezer ... that keeps them from going rancid and extends their "shelf life". Thanks for a great video! I plan on buying your recommended device. A word on those mason jar lids: They seal better when they are at a higher temperature .... it softens the sealer material. Not something you have to worry about when you use traditional pot canning.

Got one yesterday as a gift! Can’t wait to unpack today and try it! Thanks for the ideas!
I’m so happy you came across my feed. Thank you so much for sharing!!
I need one of these. I wish you had an affiliate link. You deserve something for selling these. Plus I want the specific one you have as it's withstood the test of much use.
I use my jar vacuum sealer all the time and I love it! 🥰
Thanks for sharing such a great solution. My wife and I stopped buying bags of apples or more than four or five bananas because they go bad.
Ibought one a while ago but forgot it ! I just dug it out and WOW IT WORKS
I have one of these, & it's fantastic! So great for dry canning. I really like your meal prep ideas, too. Thanks!❤
These are great. I’ve given them to a lot of my homesteaders. Thank you for your videos. You rock God bless you.
Wow. I've never seen anything so great!!
I love mine I got mine from Temu got it on sale for $12.00 game with jar covers and the cord. I seal nuts, raisins and so much more.
I have the VP05 and love it! I nevvvver thought about daily stuff like guacamole! Great video!
Did not know fruit would last loke that 😊 thank you for the great tips. I love my vaccum sealer, my son got me one a few years ago now using mason jars keeps the mice out
Daaaaanngg! I feel like I just got a raise. This is SUCH a great tip. My problem is fresh veg going bad before I use it.
Oh wow, sounds great, please explain more????
I'm really enjoying your content. Vacuum sealing leftovers-a great idea for campers/van dwellers who have feeble freezers but adequate refrigeration-saves money big time by making large portions and easy reheating while on the road.
Easy to reheat the mason jar in a pot of boiling water!
@@bridgetgidget72 Another great idea! Saves washing another dish and pot. Van dwellers, take note!
Me too! I need this😊
New Subscriber ! This Channel stays true to prepping & doesnt veer off into politic constantly like other channels . Love it !
I use a brake bleeder tool all the time to accomplish the SAME thing. It’s super easy and it works even when the power grid doesn’t 👍
My partner bought one of these recently. We love it! I sealed Caroway seed, Celery seed, and all kinds of dried beans. Also, I sealed leftover lettuce, grape tomatoes, and sweet peppers. Kept them fresh for a week in the fridge! No more wasting food! 🤩🤩
Thank you I live in a very humid climate and everything goes either clumpy or gets bugs long before I can finish the mixes
This gadget I had seen for a while now. Your video already "sealed the deal" with your presentation, @ 6:50 mins, the idea that you can test used lids to see if they are good for future use, that is worth double the cost of this device.
There's a VP06 & a lot of people had problems with that one. Now there's a VP06 Plus. THIS one apparently is the better one with more success rate ~
I live on my own and I'm always throwing out salad veggies because I don't eat them fast enough... So yes I'm going to buy one. 😁❤from 🇬🇧
Love my mini vacuum sealer! Saves money on using mylar and oxen absorbers for short term storage too!
Just found your channel and loved your tips and those lovely people who added their tips. I’m thinking of starting canning, so I’ve hit the subscribed button.
I have one but never thought to use it that way! Thank you!
Thank you! I just ordered one from ebay for $14.99/and free shipping!
I bought one of those last year and liked it so much I bought a backup one, (on sale).
I did the same
What a great video. Never thought of this. I am always throwing out cucumbers and little tomatoes.
Along with this I bought a canning lid opener. Use the same lid over and over, a great help and saver in the kitchen.
Inspiring! I have a wide mouth mason jar vacuum sealing attachment for my countertop food saver vacuum sealer. I use it a good bit, but you are inspiring me to use it even more!
Thank you kindly mate, glad i've found this now and not 10yrs into the future..👍
These are available on Temu for half the price, and less, than the $26 price on Amazon. Thanks for sharing this product!
I never thought of sealing leftovers. Great tip. Thanks. I have done the other things.
I love mine! I would like to get a second one!!! Works very well
Hi, I just found your channel, thanks for the informative video and demo.
Thank you - definitely save your finger nails by using a can opener to break seals!
I’m new to your channel and I have one of those canners but have not used it yet. I’m now excited to try it! Thanks for sharing all the uses it has!😊❤
