Lived in delco for 55 years now. So many memories of this mall and granite run. They were so much fun going to around the holidays. Now everything we get is from Amazon. Kinda took the spirit out of Christmas. Springfield will be closed soon. No one goes. Its a shame. Life moves on. Thanks for the video. Great job.
Yeah, but no, Springfield Mall is nowhere near closing. In fact, it's one of the last malls still thriving, relatively speaking. Few closed stores, crowds are there every holiday season (not just at Xmas). Plenty of people still go there all the time, mainly because Target is such a magnet store.
This is so nostalgic. I remember going here every weekend as a little kid, and always going to check out the Disney store, see games at Gamestop, and get lunch at friendlys, and just screw off while my mom shopped at Macy's. During Christmas, our whole family would go see santa, get photos at the old timey photographer, and then get dinner at carrabba's. Now, the all experiences I just mentioned (except gamestop, Macy's and Santa) have been closed for awhile. Though it may be "back," it's not the same. It's really not. The only reason they are still in business is because of all the Chester folk who take the 109 up for day trips. Good that your highlighting Springfield. If I'm ever in town again, you can hit me up and I'd love to give you a tour.
Dude! I’m glad I found ya channel. Your energy that comes out from the sound of your voice. A perfect motivator for the start of the day. Like a nice cup of hot coffee. Hope you’re having a great day!
You are my favorite UA-camr because you are honest, causal and somewhat unfiltered. The fact your video's are taking place in places I used to hang out gives me fond memories.
@jaypaster8244 I worked with a guy named Fred Boothe that claimed he took her to his senior prom. We used to bust his balls and say that her date with him is what caused her to go over the edge.
Thank you for this video! Lifelong Delco resident ❤️ My favorite job was in the Christmas department at Strawbridges in 2001. I still do 80% of my holiday shopping at the mall 🥰 My friend cut Sylvia's hair 💇♀️ at Muncy 😮
We were there Friday in the morning. We live in Springfield, but hadn't been there in many years. Was disappointed so many stores and kiosks weren't even open by 11 a.m. in the Christmas season. Target had more Christmas merchandise shelves empty than full. It didn't feel festive at all, it had that sad feel that you get after Christmas when things are all picked over. There is another Target a couple blocks away and they also have the same kind of escalator. I haven't been in there this season yet to see if it's more festive than the mall one. Nice that you visited our township. Hoping to run into you one day! I love your Phila. videos, since I no longer get there.
Here WE GOoooo!!!! Mom got me a badass red with white stripes Addidas running suit at John Wanamakers when they were there back in ‘79 …. I thought I was the 6 million dollar man ;-) 🤙🏼
#mrsgarretrocks, I liked Natalie. I love you've stopped cussing. Enjoy your videos, you always make me laugh. I'm old enough to be your mom, but I love you Cap't. God bless
Cool Philly Captain can remember as a kid when that mall opened in September 1974 like you said. Used to take the trolley there and jump out the window to not pay. LOL I also worked for SpinMaster in 2015 and 2016 all over Philadelphia . 🎄👍🎁🤩
My son wanted to go to the mall and I said will go tomorrow but he said Please so I took him. The next day Sylvia Segrist shot up the mall. We would have been there but thanks to my son saying please Mom we were there the day before. Will never forget that.
It used to be a Wanamaker’s when the mall opened. It stayed till they closed the chain. Target was a better fit since there are many middle class residents in this area. What is surprising is that before this Target opened near by on the other side of Baltimore Pike they had one in the old Strawbridge and Clothier store. Both Targets seem to do well in Springfield. This mall does seem to be doing ok but was busier in the past. The stands in the hallways were always open this time of year. One reason this mall does good it also has good SEPTA transit to it. The Media trolley runs behind the mall as well as several bus lines serving the front of the mall. I am surprised that the captain wacomplaining about the colder weather. Here in the Philadelphia area we get it all from hot humid weather in summer to cold windy winter and sometimes big snow storms. I was told by someone that if you grew up in Philadelphia you could live almost anywhere in the world since we experience such varied weather. Thanks for the various tours of the area malls. Like the captain my first job was working for a major manufacturer of small appliances so I got to see many of the malls when I was assigned some of the major department store accounts over the years. Great memories.
@@johnchambers8528 Thanks so much for the very detailed response. I appreciate it, especially since you get so many comments. It would be hard to read all of them, much less respond.
I lived in Media at the time of the shooting and rarely went there even after moving to Springfield shortly after. My former pediatrician, Dr. Trout, was killed. After moving away in the late 2000s I'm once again living within a few miles of Springfield Mall and hate going there, it gives me the creeps.
The mall closed that parking deck in the back maybe a year ago. It dates from the 70s and it’s too deteriorated to support cars anymore. Even though the mall is busy they can get by without it.
I usually drive past that target and go to the one a half mile farther down the road because it's easier to get in and out of the parking lot. That one is older and the first one I remember having the cart escalator. I was in the mall a day or 2 after the shooting when the bullet holes in the glass and walls had not been fixed yet. That closed off parking area is not safe, the supports were found to be failing, there's a steep hill there and that section of the parking lot is pretty high off the ground.
Blair (Lisa Welchel) hosts a show on the MeTV network, showcasing collectors an their collections (toys, film memorabilia, etc). She still has that very nice hair ... LOL
100% with you on winter and light exposure, I’m up at 3 am for work and in bed at 7, this time of year is absolutely brutal on me, I think it’s why I prefer day baseball, I just need the exposure to sunlight
I just wanna say I went to the Exton Mall Arcade, Round One. Lemme tellya, that place is a ripoff. It cost me $8 to play maybe five minutes of pinball.
Tony Luke's father and brother got popped for tax invasion. They broke up the company and the father and brother changed their name. Oregon Ave is their only location. The rest are all called Tony Luke's now.(Malls, stadiums and casinos)

Facts of Life…wanted to have Blair’s looks but Jo’s attitude😂
Anybody remember Sylvia Segrist?
Yes. 😮

I live in Delaware County and was just at the mall last Friday, it was so many cars that I left. It still does well.
I used to walk the trolley tracks with my brother and friends to get to this mall. I loved to shop there as a kid.

The Target that's at 420 and Baltimore Pike also has an escalator, assuming it is still there.
I believe you were parked near lot X.
Yes it is still there and does good business.

@@Elizabeth-foolishmortal I think my comment got deleted, but a former boss of mine took Sylvia to his prom.
I think that is the first two level Target I have seen. I am guessing that space was a former two story department store.

The low prices @ Walmart was an expensive price to pay for malls and mom and pops throughout this nation.

I moved 10 years ago from the area to the Westcoast. Wow. It looks like a ghost time.
It’s good to see the Springfield Mall is hanging in there, Captain. I haven’t been there in a couple of years.
I used to be one the mall salesmen for Bath Fitter before they stopped due to Covid and worked exclusively in the Springfield Mall.
Hey Philly Captain, great video at the Springfield Mall-Delco, Pa..Glad the mall is doing good..Enjoy your Friday and the weekend..
