Just made this the other day and it was very easy to make with your step by step instructions. Anyone considering doing this they should without hesitation.
I made your marshmallow fondant for the first time 2 weeks ago. I used it on my last cake order. It is a game changer! Usually I buy fondant but I thought “let me just try it, Karolyn makes it look so easy” and IT WAS easy and I love how it holds up. It is so much easier to work with and fondant decorations came out looking so much nicer. They didn’t break or dry out and get “elephant skin” like manufactured fondant. Thank you so much for sharing! I have learned so much watching your channel over the last year. I try new techniques I would never try before thanks to you! You are helping me take my cakes to the next level. 😊
That makes me so happy to hear! I love that you're trying new things and having such great results! 😊 And I wanna screen shot this comment and share it because I'm always telling people to master the fondant recipe and it will change everything!

I finally decided to try making fondant using your recipe and WOW! I don't know why I was so afraid to try it 😆 I love the texture!! Thank you for all your amazing videos!!!!!
Hi! Love your videos 😊. Just a tip that I use when I sift flour or icing sugar to prevent the messy cloud or spills. I use a cup to push the powder through rather than shaking it. I find it less messy 😊

I’ve finally got round to trying this! It’s come out well, makes a lovely big batch of fondant! I’ve made it to cover a 6 inch and 4 inch cake, each with 3 layers, not torted. Will this be enough do you think? Thanks for sharing this recipe ❤🙏🏻
Hey girl, thought I would give you a couple of tips, since you are always giving us tips. When I sift my powdered sugar I use a tablespoon to just stir it around the strainer. It makes way less mess than if you shake it. And you can smash all those little hard clumps of sugar up with the spoon. I've actually found that I can save clean up time if I do it this way. Second tip, use a measuring cup to add it to the mixer. One like you use to measure your shortening. Much faster than a tablespoon. Maybe this will help you. Thanks for another great video. One of these days I'm gonna try your fondant recipe. The kneading intimidates me lol. By the way, I tried your method of measuring my straws with the sewing ruler. You rock I ain't ever going back, love it. It works perfectly!!!
DUH! Why didn't I think of that?! I hate the sugar cloud and that will really help. Thank you! I usually use a huge mixing spoon but it was dirty and I found a smaller one when I was doing the video LOL But yeah, I don't know why I didn't just get a measuring cup! 💜🙏

Thank you so much!!!! I’ve always hated store bought fondant but wasn’t ready to try this since I can get my buttercream so smooth I didn’t care to use fondant. But some cakes just need it 😅 i just finished a batch. It’s definitely feeling way softer than what I’ve bought in the past but… it seems like that’s to be expected??? I hope I did it all right 🤞🏼
If it's too soft, you may need to add more sugar. The sugar to liquid ratio isn't rigid, it's always changing depending on humidity. If the fondant isn't forming around the hook in the mixer, you'll need to add more sugar until it does. (Just add a little at a time!)

I just made my first marshmellow fondant. Seems good... I made daisies with plungers. Do I want them to dry or ? What should I do with them until I'm ready to put on a cake (in a few days) Thank you!!!!
Thank you for the video. Can I do this same technique with homemade marshmallows or marshmallow fluff? What adjustments would you recommend, if any? Thanks so much!
Hi Terri! I never made it with fluff, so I did a little search and they have a recipe on their website for fluff fondant, here it is! marshmallowfluff.com/fluff-fondant/ I would also add 1/4 tsp Tylose Powder to it: amzn.to/3IoqAOT
thanks as always for another great tutorial! do you have any advice on fondant quantities and how to determine how many of these batches are needed to cover different size cakes? i’m doing a 2-tier cake for this weekend and only need to make enough to wrap/cover the perimeter of the tiers which are 8” and 10” and each 4 layers, so probably 5-6” in height when filled and base iced. i’ve never been good at estimating in advance and now that i’ll be spending the time to make my own and it has to be done in advance, i want to be sure i get it right! thank you!!!
I'm the worst because I don't have a chart or anything. I just kind of know how much I will need. For an 8 / 10, I would make 2 batches! I have to figure out how to relay this information.
Hi Karolyn BIG FAN ! This would be my second big cake thanks to you !! ❤ now I’m using fondant… If the fondant is only being use for small decorations do we have to use tylose ? Or what other substitute can I use. Also if I’m using buttercream to cover the cakes how do I make the fondant decorations to stick on the sides ?
I just love your channel. Are you gonna do a video on how much fondant you need to cover cakes? I'm new to fondant and that is something I struggle with
Thank you! Hmmm, I'm not even sure how I figure it out, I don't have specific measurements for that, I just try to guess LOL And I always have some extra!
Thank you thank you thank you for this video!!! I’m so excited to try it. If I can’t find tylose powder in time to make the fondant could I substitute more corn starch??
You're welcome love! Too much corn starch may dry it out. Just make sure you have enough powdered sugar in there so it's not too soft. I explain more in this video: ua-cam.com/video/1Ol4-c2fNBY/v-deo.html
Hey Karolyn, I bought the coffee scoop, and it's a 2 tbsp. Do I use 1 or 2 tbsp of water in the mixer? Thank you so very much! I guess what I'm asking is one whole scoop or half a scoop?
Mine is 1 Tbsp. But just remember the amount of liquid you add will always vary, depending on the humidity in the air and how much sugar you have. So just be mindful of that!
Thank you for all your tutorials. You have helped a lot in improving my cake business. I'm planning on doing your marshmallow fondant for the first time. How much cake does this recipe cover..? Thank you for your help and time!!!
Hi Karolyn. Thanks for the fondant recipe and tutorial. I am making my husband's brthday cake this week. His bday is Feb 11th. I have got my smooth buttercream down pat. This will be the first time I use fondant. I will make it on thursday. I did buy some Wilton fondant as a back up. I am making him a pineapple yellow cake decorated in LSU colors purple and gold. It will have a fault line with purple crystals, edged in 24 k gold. I also want to marble the fondant in white, purple, and gold. I am being very ambitious. Lol please wish me luck❗🤞🎂 Do you have any suggestions?
You have to control the environment you bring the cake into from the fridge in order to prevent it from sweating. Here's a video where I talk about it! ua-cam.com/video/bBPjGzEMZaw/v-deo.html
I am currently in fondant hell. I made my own, mixed in tylose. It was sooooo dry that I spent hours trying to fix it. I caves and bought the Wilton fondant (because I need red). It’s too freaking soft 😭, so I have been adding tylose and more tylose and more tylose 😑 I managed to make 6 ruffles but they’re just falling apart 😢
Oh no!! I recommending making Marshmallow Fondant because store bought fondant is wayyyy too soft and I feel like no amount of Tylose will work LOL If your Marshmallow Fondant was too dry, you probably needed to add more liquid. The amount of liquid always varies depending on the humidity in the air. You want the fondant to hold its shape around the hook when you’re making it. I’m sorry that happened!
Noticed that the coffee scoop on Amazon is 2 tablespoons rather than 1 tablespoon as you said. Is this the one you use? if so, I think 2 tablespoons need to be added to the mixing bowl to prevent the sugar from sticking. Thanks and enjoy your tutorials!
I just poured 1 tablespoon of water in my coffee scoop and it filled it to the top! Maybe yours is a little bigger? But, either way, the amount of liquid will always vary depending on the humidity and amount of sugar you use.😊
❤️Hello Karolyn! How long is the shelf life in room temp? Can i use this fondant in humid weather? I once tried others marshmallow fondant recipe but it moist and messy in humid weather, any tip in how to handle when humid? Thanks in advance.❤️
I go through so much of it, that I haven't had to store it longer than 3 weeks. I keep it wrapped in plastic wrap, place that in a ziplock bag, then put that in an airtight container. And it has been fine. I use the fondant in humid weather all the time. If you refrigerate your cakes in the warm / humid weather, you MUST control the environment where the cake will be. Meaning, I keep my house and car air conditioning ON BLAST when I'm working with cakes so they don't sweat. Here's a video where I explain that! ua-cam.com/video/vBKi-O7v98w/v-deo.html
Love your videos,i have just finished making your marshmallow fondant, lol my kitchen looks like someone came in and opened a 2lb bag of powdered surgar and spinned round tn times 😂 but i made it,so soft, but think i made a mistake iv added a tsp and a bit of cmc powder, its 2lb fondant i made, will update tommow when im rolling it out, forgot to turn page over, where it says 1/4 tsp🤔
That's why I put a towel over my mixer! The sugar will get everywhere LOL! If it doesn't form a ball around the hook, then you need to add more sugar. Watch this! ua-cam.com/video/1Ol4-c2fNBY/v-deo.html
Hi. I watched all your videos and made the cake successful. Now I am thinking about buying a kitchin aid stand mixer. But lots of variety. Can you recommend me? I got it from Costco today but bowl - lift style one. I did not open it yet. You use a tilt head style. What do you think? Thanks.
I prefer the tilt head rather than the bowl lift. I personally feel like the bowl lift isn’t as sturdy and I blew the motor out a few times making big batches of icing with the bowl lift. For some reason it can’t withstand the intense mixing. So I never used one again!
@@KarolynsKakes Thanks so much! I will return the bowl lift one then get the tilt head one! I am tired of making fondant by hand. Also butter cream by hand mixer. Thanks again!
Sometimes, it depends on what I'm using it for. If I'm covering a cake with it, I may not add any more (or just a tiny amount if it's needed). If I'm making a topper that has to dry hard, I will definitely add more! Same thing if I need to make clean cuts. The fondant has to set hard to get the crisp, clean decorations!
Hello again! Let me start by saying I love love love your recipe! There's a little problem... I'm trying to use an acrylic stamp however the fondant keeps sticking to I've added cornstarch however it's still sticking Should I be using more cornstarch or more powdered sugar I heard somewhere that adding more powdered sugar expands the water in the fondant something like that Maybe you can help me thank you in advance!
If it's sticking, I would add a little Gum Tex / Tylose powder to it to help the fondant stiffen up. If you already did that, roll out the fondant and let it sit for 15-20 minutes before you use the stamp. You can also take a small paint brush and brush a very light coat of shortening on the stamp before pressing it into the fondant. (Don't use too much shortening! Just a tiny amount.)
Hi Karolyn, what inch cake does one batch of your recipe cover? This is so I know how much to make. PS, you're cakes are awesome! Much love from London xx
Thank you Bella! 💜🙏 I can cover up to a 4-5 inch high 10 inch diameter cake with 1 batch. (I'm not sure of the conversions, it's so annoying that USA is like the only country who doesn't use the metric system LOL)
Hi!! First of all thanks for sharing all of this information. And then I ha a question, do you put Tylose powder to the fondant that you are using to cover the cakes or just the one for decorations? Thanks a lot!!
I add it to all of my fondant, if I'm covering cakes with it or if I'm using it for decorations, it all gets Tylose powder. Fondant that I cover cakes with needs less tylose. I explain in this video at 9:22: ua-cam.com/video/hEGrFH3AmXw/v-deo.html
Hey dear! Thank you for the update❤️ your recipe is great! One thing that happened to me a week ago, I made fondant and stores it in a tight plastic bag, a few days later when I was going to use it, I colored it pink, it became so hard and crumbs, I took it in the microwave 3 times , but I did not got the right texture, shoyld I mention I had tylos in it as well, I had to put it in the trash😠 this was the first time I got this problem with you recipe, other times it was great, what do you think I did wrong? 💞
How much tylose did you add? And if it was crumbly, you may have needed to add more liquid when you were making it. Remember the liquid added varies depending on how dry or humid it is outside. You really have to look at it and see if it's the right consistency. Was it on the drier side when you took it out of the mixing bowl?
@@KarolynsKakes I could have used too much tylos😔 and it was quite dry when I tool it out of the bowl, I will think about it for the next time😊 thank you so much for your reply and time🤗❤️
Sounds like you added too much sugar and needed more liquid. The amount of sugar and liquid added will always vary depending on the humidity in the air!
If you aren’t going to use the fondant right away do you still add the Taylor’s powder as you’re making the fondant. If so wouldn’t it garden while it’s stored. Tx
I have seen videos on here of people making it without a mixer. You put the powdered sugar on the countertop and pour the marshmallows on top and knead it. I've never done that, so I'm not sure how it works. I recommend searching for one of those videos!
Sometimes I do, if it's really sticking to the sides. Other times, I can add a little water to the bowl as it's mixing and it helps incorporate everything together, so scraping isn't necessary. Each batch I make is a little different, so it depends on how it's coming together!
I must be doing something wrong. I added the water to the bottom of the mixing bowl and then added the sugar, but when I mixed the sugar and marshmallow, the sugar on the bottom that went in the water was like a rock. I had to scrape the sides of the bowl while mixing too, and my fondant had hundreds of tiny lumps through it. This has happened twice. This time I used a spoon to crush each lump and it too hours. There will still be lumps I missed. I couldn't throw it out. Argh. I am using pure icing sugar (in Australia). Should I be using an icing sugar with additives? I'm going to make a small batch to experiment. My grandson's cake is due in one week. The fondant coloured up perfectly however, black and red, so there was some positives. Appreciate any help.
Hmmmm, that stinks I'm sorry to hear that! Try to do it without the water at the bottom. I've had success with it, but it sounds like it may not be good for everyone. Your icing sugar should be okay. Is it really humid down there? That could play a part in it.
@@KarolynsKakes Thanks Karolyn! Yes was 70% humidity outdoors when I made it. No heating or air-conditioning indoors, so maybe that was it, yes. I'll try without water then ans see how that goes. Thanks again.
@@KarolynsKakes same problem in France! I though adding glucose, which is sugar syrup.... do you guy think that that could work for the elasticity of the fondant? Thanks! Your videos rock! You are so generous sharing your talent and experience, thanks soooooo much! Love from France!
Hi Karolyn, I finally got round to making your marshmallow fondant that I've been excited to make. I followed the recipe but now I have a lovely tasting rubber ball. It has no stretch or movement. It appeared lovely at first but after coming back to it the next day... Awful! When made, I added just under a teaspoon of tylose and have kept it covered in cling film and in an airtight container. Can you help please? What did I do wrong? 😳😳 PS my marshmallow didn't melt as quick as yours in the microwave so I had to keep putting back in. I have super giant marshmallows. Could that have affected it?
Hmmm, that hasn't happened to me so I'm not sure what happened! I haven't ever used the super giant marshmallows, so I wonder if you heated them too long and that somehow had an affect on the outcome.

Thank you for the video. Can I do this same technique with homemade marshmallows or marshmallow fluff? What adjustments would you recommend, if any? Thanks so much!
Hi Terri! I never made it with fluff, so I did a little search and they have a recipe on their website for fluff fondant, here it is!
marshmallowfluff.com/fluff-fondant/
I would also add 1/4 tsp Tylose Powder to it: amzn.to/3IoqAOT
@@KarolynsKakes on my, thank you for your response and going the extra mile to help me out. 💚
thanks as always for another great tutorial! do you have any advice on fondant quantities and how to determine how many of these batches are needed to cover different size cakes? i’m doing a 2-tier cake for this weekend and only need to make enough to wrap/cover the perimeter of the tiers which are 8” and 10” and each 4 layers, so probably 5-6” in height when filled and base iced. i’ve never been good at estimating in advance and now that i’ll be spending the time to make my own and it has to be done in advance, i want to be sure i get it right! thank you!!!
I'm new to fondant and that is something I struggle with
Thank you! Hmmm, I'm not even sure how I figure it out, I don't have specific measurements for that, I just try to guess LOL
And I always have some extra!
Thank you for sharing 🙏 ❤
Gracias karol
De nada Rita!
Thank you for the recipe 💜
My pleasure 😊
Amazing 🤩 love this recipe
It's the best fondant!! 🙌🙌
I explain more in this video:
ua-cam.com/video/1Ol4-c2fNBY/v-deo.html
Hey Karolyn, I bought the coffee scoop, and it's a 2 tbsp. Do I use 1 or 2 tbsp of water in the mixer? Thank you so very much! I guess what I'm asking is one whole scoop or half a scoop?
Mine is 1 Tbsp. But just remember the amount of liquid you add will always vary, depending on the humidity in the air and how much sugar you have. So just be mindful of that!
How big should I make a fondant ribbon cake topper for 12 by 18 sheet cake?
It's hard for me to say, it all depends on the look you want!
Thank you for all your tutorials. You have helped a lot in improving my cake business. I'm planning on doing your marshmallow fondant for the first time. How much cake does this recipe cover..? Thank you for your help and time!!!
You're welcome Sabrina! This is big enough to cover a 5" high 10" round cake. I hope that helps!
@@KarolynsKakes WOW... That's really good! Thank you so much for all your help and support! ☺
Thank you so much for your videos! I learn so much! One question does it matter what brand of marshmallow I use? Does the taste change? Thank you! 🫶
Hi Migna! I've used many different brands of marshmallows and haven't noticed a difference between any of them. 😊
Awwww you got this Kendy! I'm sure he will love it because it came from you!💜💜
can you add almond flavouring to make it like an almond paste?
Sure! You can add whatever flavoring you prefer!
Hi Karolyn I am from Ireland & watch all your videos I see you put your fondant covered cake in the fridge does that not make it sweat ?
You have to control the environment you bring the cake into from the fridge in order to prevent it from sweating. Here's a video where I talk about it! ua-cam.com/video/bBPjGzEMZaw/v-deo.html
I am currently in fondant hell. I made my own, mixed in tylose. It was sooooo dry that I spent hours trying to fix it. I caves and bought the Wilton fondant (because I need red). It’s too freaking soft 😭, so I have been adding tylose and more tylose and more tylose 😑
I managed to make 6 ruffles but they’re just falling apart 😢
Oh no!! I recommending making Marshmallow Fondant because store bought fondant is wayyyy too soft and I feel like no amount of Tylose will work LOL
If your Marshmallow Fondant was too dry, you probably needed to add more liquid. The amount of liquid always varies depending on the humidity in the air. You want the fondant to hold its shape around the hook when you’re making it.
I’m sorry that happened!
Can you put too much tylose? My fondant was drying out and cracking when I tried to use it. Yours seems so much better.
You definitely can! If it's hard as a rock when it's cool, then there's definitely too much in there.
@KarolynsKakes can you color the fondant after you make it? Or does it have to be done before with the marshmallows?
I usually do it after I make it because I rarely need an entire batch of one color.
@@KarolynsKakes Thanks for clarifying - the one shown in the link on Amazon is 2 tablespoons.
How I h black would you make for a 10,8,6. 3 layers each. Thanks!!!!
I'd probably make 3 to make sure I had enough leftover.
I like your tips and tricks.. The last one has helped me with my toothpaste 😂😂😂
Yes!! Don't waste any of it!😂
❤️Hello Karolyn!
@@KarolynsKakes
Thanks so much!
I will return the bowl lift one then get the tilt head one! I am tired of making fondant by hand. Also butter cream by hand mixer. Thanks again!
Once you start rolling this out do you add more tylos
Sometimes, it depends on what I'm using it for. If I'm covering a cake with it, I may not add any more (or just a tiny amount if it's needed). If I'm making a topper that has to dry hard, I will definitely add more! Same thing if I need to make clean cuts. The fondant has to set hard to get the crisp, clean decorations!
Hello again! Let me start by saying I love love love your recipe! There's a little problem... I'm trying to use an acrylic stamp however the fondant keeps sticking to I've added cornstarch however it's still sticking
Should I be using more cornstarch or more powdered sugar I heard somewhere that adding more powdered sugar expands the water in the fondant something like that
Maybe you can help me thank you in advance!
@@KarolynsKakes thank you so much!!! ❤️❤️❤️
@@KarolynsKakes it's an acrylic embosser stamp with small details, fondant gets stuck 😡 I'll try you suggestions... Thanks again ❤️
Hi Karolyn, what inch cake does one batch of your recipe cover? This is so I know how much to make.
PS, you're cakes are awesome! Much love from London xx
Thank you Bella! 💜🙏
I can cover up to a 4-5 inch high 10 inch diameter cake with 1 batch.
(I'm not sure of the conversions, it's so annoying that USA is like the only country who doesn't use the metric system LOL)
Ohh that's brilliant. Thank you so much for this, you are a star 🌟
How long will it last on a cake? Thank you x
I've had fondant on a cake for 6-7 days without any issues!
Hi Karolyn, Iḿ making a big cake for my grand-daughterś Christening in Philadelphia. What size cake would that cover? I really enjoy your videos.
Thank you Melinda! I can cover a 10” cake with 1 batch ☺️
I explain in this video at 9:22:
ua-cam.com/video/hEGrFH3AmXw/v-deo.html
What can I use as an alternative for tylose powder? Ty!
Wilton Gum Tex powder or CMC powder
Can I use non salted butter instead of shortening?
I've never used butter, so I'm not sure how that would work out.
@@KarolynsKakes I could have used too much tylos😔 and it was quite dry when I tool it out of the bowl, I will think about it for the next time😊 thank you so much for your reply and time🤗❤️
Hi Karolyn. Would this amount of fondant cover a 3 layer 8"cake?
Yes it will!
@@KarolynsKakes Thank you, can't wait to try it.
I like video. I try this homemade fondant and it just not coming together. Not sure what I did wrong. It break when I try to pull any trick can help
Sounds like you added too much sugar and needed more liquid. The amount of sugar and liquid added will always vary depending on the humidity in the air!
Does your recipe make nearly 3 pounds of fondant?
Thank you for great instructions ❤
It's approx. 2 pounds!
@@KarolynsKakes Thank you so much for your reply. Am an avid fan. Great inspiration. Love from NewZealand ❤️
My 2nd batch turned out perfect. Thank you . I signed up for your birthday cake design have not received it. Deb K.
Yay!!
Do you have a gmail email address? If so, check junk / spam folder and the social and promotions tabs!
If you aren’t going to use the fondant right away do you still add the Taylor’s powder as you’re making the fondant. If so wouldn’t it garden while it’s stored. Tx
If you won't use it within a week or two, then you can omit the Tylose and just add it as needed.
If you’re coloring multiple colors I’m assuming that you get separate bowls and color them and mix them one by one?
Are you asking I'm making full batches of multiple colors? Like a full red batch then a full black batch of fondant?
@@KarolynsKakes yes and no like if you need half of each colors
Can i color the white fondant after it has already been made, like if i made it in advance but didn't know i would need a certain color?
Yes you can, here's an old video I made about that: ua-cam.com/video/KBQHdFflG9c/v-deo.html
I do the same thing with the bit of bag you cut off to tie the bag shut. I thought I was the only one lol :)
My mom told me that. It’s genius!!
Can you add the tylose powder to the fondant while it is still in the mixer?
You sure can! I have done that before, but I also will knead the fondant once I remove it from the bowl to make sure it's all distributed throughout.
Hi- can this be made without a stand mixer?
I have seen videos on here of people making it without a mixer. You put the powdered sugar on the countertop and pour the marshmallows on top and knead it. I've never done that, so I'm not sure how it works. I recommend searching for one of those videos!
Hi Karolyn! Can you use vegan marshmallows? Thanks for the video😊
I've never made it myself, but I've seen videos showing you how. So you definitely can!
is Wilton Gum-Tex powder the same as Tylose Powder?
Yeah it does the same thing, just different names.
Can you add flavoring to your fondant? I think a hint of lemon would be nice...
You absolutely can!
Could I add the tylose powder later on or is it best to add it to the batch when you make it?
You can add it later on! I just use so much of it that I like to add it in the beginning now.
Can you advise me what the equivalent of light corn syrup is in the UK please ?
I've heard people say they use Golden Syrup instead. We don't have that here, so I've never used it. However, I believe it is a good substitute.
@@KarolynsKakes thank you for the prompt reply . I watch your videos all the time and find you soo engaging and helpful , keep posting 🙏
Is there a reason you don’t scrape the sides of the bowl?
Do you think you can substitute corn syrup for glycerin for stretch and shine? It’s not easy to buy corn syrup in the UK?
I never have, but I’ve heard that glycerine works very well in fondant! I’d start by adding a Tablespoon to the batch.
@@KarolynsKakes same problem in France! I though adding glucose, which is sugar syrup.... do you guy think that that could work for the elasticity of the fondant? Thanks! Your videos rock! You are so generous sharing your talent and experience, thanks soooooo much! Love from France!
Can I use any other syrup apart from corn syrup?
I've heard people use glycerin with success.
PS my marshmallow didn't melt as quick as yours in the microwave so I had to keep putting back in. I have super giant marshmallows. Could that have affected it?
Hmmm, that hasn't happened to me so I'm not sure what happened! I haven't ever used the super giant marshmallows, so I wonder if you heated them too long and that somehow had an affect on the outcome.
@@KarolynsKakes the more I think about it the more I think maybe so lol. Going to try again with the mini ones! 😁
