Ray Wylie Hubbard wrote this, he introduces this song saying "it's a folk singers job to comfort disturbed people and to disturb comfortable people." Ray Wylie Hubbard and Billy Joe Shaver are my favorite song writers. Yes it's Wylie like the coyote.
Lot's of good lines in this: Buddha was not a Christian but Jesus would have made a good Buddhist. It's now any hard to do what's right may not as much fun.
It is actually Wylie like the coyote. Lol I've met him. I told him I was a big fan and his reaction was "Oh yeah, you haven't seen me on stage yet."😂 He's really down to earth and funny!
You need to do his song Mother Blues. He introduces it by saying “This song is based on a true story. The names have been changed to protect the guilty.
The fact that the line about "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" was in this song gives it a bunch of instant cred. NOBODY thinks Johnny's solo was the better of the two. 😂
I just received his book for Christmas, and saw a show for my birthday... he did write this, as he does/did about 98% of all of his stuff... he is a brilliant man and writer. The title of the book is so cool... punctuation is crucial.... "A life.... well, lived." Lol. Love your channel and your approach. Thanks.
Ray’s a real dude! Spoke to him a few times after his shows! The Shed in Maryville Tn is a great venue to see him!!! Going to see Blackberry Smoke this year!!!
that was some song for sure- brilliant lyrics -many of which have double meanings I thought - like you - I think he wrote this too - the way he sings it seems to verify that - Ray W H seems to sing songs like this -loads of words and very well put - he must have a clever brain to do this kinda stuff dont you think - enjoyed your reaction and defo your rating was awesome - Hope you had a good Xmas Day and ate plenty turkey!! I am at my sons as I said and with my best friend Sylvia and we decided as there was only two of us we would by ribeye steak and all the trimmings so we wouldnt be eating turkey for days afterwards ha ha !! It was good though -out at the sales today and got new long black boots !!! What do you do at New Year -its all parties and whiskey over here but I dont drink now so will prob just go to bed - got gigs this weekend so lookin forward to that - sorry I am a bit behind with my replies these past few you did - we are out a lot down here - doin a lot of walking as weather phenomenal for this time of year here - anyway my friend I really enjoyed this song tonight-Happy New Year and have a dram for me Slainte bha!! Scottish Gaelic for All the best - sounds like slantchiva phonetically so you can now speak some Gaelic xxxxxx
@Paul Smith Dude, that is awesome! Glad you got to see him AND that you're already awake today---ha!! Remember back in the day going to concerts meant having brutal hangover the next day and waking up around the crack of noon?
This is such a cool song… The dozens of references throughout the songs to many other songs & culture thru the years, too many to catch. Some get spiritual because they see the light, Others because the feel the heat!
While you are at it, let that search engine send you on over to Hayes Carll, who cowrote Drunken Poets Dream. Pick any of his songs and you will find yourself dead in the middle of middle America's best modern Poet's. Ray Wylie (WHY LEE) Hubbard, Robert Earl Keen, Hayes Carll, Evan Felker (Turnpike Troubadours), Cody Canada and so on and so forth. That will get a newcomer to Red Dirt started down the right path!
@Billy McGilvray It's on the list now---thanks for the rec. Please be patient with me since the list is kinda long, but based on your description and sentiments I had no choice but to but it on the list! And welcome aboard the channel!!
RockN2Country you’re a good man. This song simply can’t wait, this is groundbreaking sh*t. Haha, keep up the nice work. James McMurtry will do funny things to you as well.
Something you said reminded me of a song you should review... "You Might Be Wrong " by Paul Thorn... who was raised by a traveling preacher in Mississippi!
He is like the "God Father" of Red Dirt. We missed a great Christmas song " Merry Christmas From the Family" by Robert Earl Keen, you ought to give it a listen and put it away for next year!
When you said "I have my theory but I might be wrong" it made me think of another song I think you would enjoy called 'You Might Be Wrong' by Paul Thorn
I have had those 1 to 1 talks ... And what is worse had em when i was straight and sober ... I agree they can mess with your head ... But i used to have a lot of questions not anymore. .... After listening to this liked it ... Ray had to write it .. But he tends to write what he knows
Wow! Great song.. My "Quantum Life" teacher Steve Mcvey will love it! His singing voice and lyric style reminded me of Charlie Daniels...who was in his song.. Thanks Don and subscriber requester..
I like the unofficial sequel to this as well, New Year's Eve at the Gates of Hell. When he concludes that the Devil is working for God and is like...wait, what am I saying? Beautiful.
Hey man I thought this song was great & I've never heard it! I loved it! This is exactly the kind that I like & relate to! I'm glad I heard it & it's going on my fb page. By the way, look me up if u want man, I go by "Jesse Duke". This makes me think of a suggestion. It's by Dry county, it's called "Waitin on Hank". Yes, it is a very much in your face song! I've given u fair warning! It is still appropriate for radio, but very much in your face!
Thanks, Doug. Here's my reaction to Whitey's song, "Waiting 'Round To Die," and I expect I'll do more of him in due course: ua-cam.com/video/Saz75bwkxgg/v-deo.html
Just found your reactions. I don't know if you still check these videos, but I must disagree with one part of your opening remarks. Folk music is all about telling stories and passing them down through generations. Not much separates the two genres. Simply said the best songs are telling stories. Like your video.
"Some get spiritual cuz they see the light, and some cuz they feel the heat"....one of the most prophetic quotes i a song...ever.
Lot's of good lines in this:
Buddha was not a Christian but Jesus would have made a good Buddhist.
It's now any hard to do what's right may not as much fun.
Ray Wylie Hubbard.... good choice.....
Consider a reaction to James McMurtry. Choctaw Bingo is a great song.
Glad you enjoyed it. Ray Wylie's "Mother Blues" is a cool (TRUE) story about a girl and a guitar.
It is actually Wylie like the coyote. Lol I've met him. I told him I was a big fan and his reaction was "Oh yeah, you haven't seen me on stage yet."😂 He's really down to earth and funny!
It is Wylie like the Coyote
The cartoon Coyote is "Wyle E. Coyote"
I'm an Okie and just live down the road from where he was born. His name is Why- lee. Love this guy.
Good stuff, Darlene!!
My favorite by him is "Screw you, We're from Texas"
With a title like that now I have to do it!
I had heard of this artist and just never heard him but wow. Great song!! This why I love this channel.
You put a huge smile on my face, yet again!!
I just received his book for Christmas, and saw a show for my birthday... he did write this, as he does/did about 98% of all of his stuff... he is a brilliant man and writer. The title of the book is so cool... punctuation is crucial.... "A life.... well, lived." Lol.

Just saw him live last night. It was my second time. He does an amazing show live.
@Paul Smith Dude, that is awesome! Glad you got to see him AND that you're already awake today---ha!! Remember back in the day going to concerts meant having brutal hangover the next day and waking up around the crack of noon?

Others because the feel the heat!
Thank you for introducing me to Ray Wylie Hubbard
@Fun Videos You're welcome. I just recorded another reaction to him today, which will be up in a couple of weeks.
Another cool Ray Wylie Hubbard song is Drunken Poets Dream
While you are at it, let that search engine send you on over to Hayes Carll, who cowrote Drunken Poets Dream. Listen to Mother Blues, and I love a woman who loves mother Hubbard. She’s today’s hero.
@Billy McGilvray It's on the list now---thanks for the rec. Please be patient with me since the list is kinda long, but based on your description and sentiments I had no choice but to but it on the list! And welcome aboard the channel!!

James McMurtry will do funny things to you as well.
Great live performer he is funny, says hope God grades on a curve.
Excellent
Something you said reminded me of a song you should review... "You Might Be Wrong " by Paul Thorn... who was raised by a traveling preacher in Mississippi!
Ray Wylie (Wilee) Hubbard did write all the words to this song.. that’s what we love about him here in Texas he’s the best songwriter we got!
You should listen to Ray Wylie's song "Cooler-n-Hell"
@donald stone I've got a reaction to a different song of Ray's coming up in two days, so the timing of your request is almost spot on.
He is like the "God Father" of Red Dirt. We missed a great Christmas song " Merry Christmas From the Family" by Robert Earl Keen, you ought to give it a listen and put it away for next year!
Merry Christmas from the family is a Robert Earl Keen
@@kodybaker1228 , Thanks for the correction! I got them mixed up. Both are Red Dirt heroes!!
Love This Song!!! Great Recommendation!

When you said "I have my theory but I might be wrong" it made me think of another song I think you would enjoy called 'You Might Be Wrong' by Paul Thorn
Someone has probably already commented, I didn't see it... His name is Ray Wylie (why-lee) Hubbard.
I have had those 1 to 1 talks ... And what is worse had em when i was straight and sober ... I agree they can mess with your head ... But i used to have a lot of questions not anymore. .... After listening to this liked it ... Ray had to write it .. But he tends to write what he knows

Thanks for dropping it on your FB page, Jesse---maybe we underground folks can get more hardcore country into the mainstream. One can hope, right?

Folk music is all about telling stories and passing them down through generations. Not much separates the two genres. Simply said the best songs are telling stories. Like your video.
it is wylie like the coyote
Thanks, Keith!
It's pronounced Why-Lee. You say "Whoever wrote this song..." Ray writes his own songs.
If you liked that, check this out Lucifer And the Fallen Angels ua-cam.com/video/fFiXYiUs2pw/v-deo.html
Lucifer was designed to be the devil, Angels are different from Man in one major way, they were not given free will.
Why-lee
Thanks, KC!
