I don’t think Herbs book being bad was a comment on his failing health or mental abilities… I think it was more a comment about how creating a broad, middle of the road, family based sit-com doesn’t require much writing skills. Herb was never a talented writer
Agreed. They seem to have overlooked the scene where Herb is pasting a magazine clip into his scrapbook. The clip says " Horsin' Around: Bad show now even worse" 😂
I didn't interpret it as Herb losing his writing ability after getting fired from Horsin' Around. I interpreted it as, he never had much writing ability to begin with. He was good enough to write for a family sitcom - a sitcom which is consistently shown to be inane and not very good in its own right - but he was never good enough to write a novel. I'm not a writer, but I imagine that writing sitcom screenplays and writing novels require different skill levels. It's an interesting character revelation. Because Bojack betrayed Herb, we're inclined to see Herb as a victim and sympathize with him, and because Herb originally made Bojack's career, we're also biased to see Herb as a talented guy. But he was always a bit of a hack. Even his standup comedy, which was maybe marginally better than Bojack's, was never that great.
I love that although Herb died in a rather ridiculous way, the writers didn't make his death a one-time gag and instead kept their joke till Season 6 where (Spoilers) they included Herb having peanuts in the dinner scene from The view from halfway down.
As an author, I'm very against what they did. I think they should have still published it. That was his self-expression, his art. Good or bad, he was in that book, and it was the last piece of him left in the world.
So, what if you knew your friends "last piece of self-expression" would be unanimously interpreted as bad? And if they had a reputation that would be stained by its released, would you still release it? What good would it serve, other than fueling your ego of "having served their last wish".
if you look at their face when she says shes been homeschooled they make a face of disgust so they figured it out but maybe just forgot to talk about it.
Yeah, I kind of pigeonhole this episode as the "funeral episode" and always forget about that little slap in the face at the very end. Microcosm of the hope and endless possibilities of youth contrasted with the sad realities of middle age.
Ikr, maybe they were too uncomfortable they even edited that part out for whatever reason I’m like this show goes dark places no sense in editing it out
@@galaxyamber8001 i have noticed a lot of the times when reactors dont notice something and is told info later they edit out the parts they missed and either admit they missed it or pretend they got it and just happend to edit that part out.
Well I didn't watch the uncut , but they didn't mention it in the discussion after. But I think most of us didn't pick up those clues on first watch, we realised it much later on
@joeyralston3773 All the best jokes, most of the important parts of the story. A bunch of setups with payoffs cut out makes leaving the setup in pointless. Like I said, a thousand facepalm moments.

Yep, that was what I saw it as too.

I like how, in an episode with Henry Winkler in it, Todd goes through a transformation machine and basically becomes the Fonz 😂😂😂
The future is bright.. it was a fake sky T-T
"It's bear furr"
Yeah, that line gets sadder over time.
As an author, I'm very against what they did. I think they should have still published it. That was his self-expression, his art. Good or bad, he was in that book, and it was the last piece of him left in the world.
It was also somewhat of a last request to Sara Lynn - pretty F'd, I agree
Well the actions of the characters in the show are flawed, I don't think anyone is supposed to interpret this as a perfect ending.
So, what if you knew your friends "last piece of self-expression" would be unanimously interpreted as bad? And if they had a reputation that would be stained by its released, would you still release it? What good would it serve, other than fueling your ego of "having served their last wish".
Some very troubling Sarah Lynn stuff in this episode that they didn't really pick up on, though I didn't either until much later...
Bear fur... 🙁
Jacob made a pretty disgusted face at that info in the full-length, so I think he clued in. But yeah, I wish they mentioned it in the discussion...
@@miyamotomusashi805 Oo good, I was worried it went over their heads. I imagine they'll probably discuss it in a later episode then...
@@miyamotomusashi805 Yeah he definitely got that.

@@xavmanisdabestestIt wasn't just homeschooled. Homeschooled by mom's boyfriend...
Herb was around the same age as Bojack. So 40s-50s. With him being cancer free, he probably would have lived way longer than another 5-10 years
Hey I just want to say that herb isn't actually conspiratorial or antisemetic, it was just a lame pun. Honestly I would assume he's jewish
that ending is so fucking sad :( always gets me

Surpriced you guys dident talk about Sarah Lynn’s… problematic… relationship with her dad…

Did they get that Sarah Lynn’s father figure was sexually abusive to her? Interested to know if they did from someone who watched the uncuts.
Well I didn't watch the uncut , but they didn't mention it in the discussion after.

they didnt outright mention it but Jacob did make like a shocked/disgusted face at the "my stepdad is a bear" line
Great reaction!
amazing
The editing choices in this one made me facepalm a thousand times. Thanks for the headache.
@joeyralston3773 There's no shame in dying for nothing. That's how most people die.

And the part with Sarah Lynn and her dad it’s like they censored half the episode
why was this so late i was waiting for hours
