I just did a similar repair on my 62 C10, used Fitzee's Cut and Butt on one side and flanged the other bed panel, just to try the two techniques. Both went well. As did this repair you show here, nice work.
Before I put 1st coat of body filler on a repair like that I like to use fiberglass filler. Its waterproof and just makes me feel more confident about avoiding stress cracks in the repair afterwards. Especially on a pickup bed that have tendencies to shake and move around alot more than a car quarter panel would.
Cool vid and nice n tight repair 😏 What 70s era Ford are you savin btw? My personal faves are the 76-77 Ford longbeds, and I am GM guy too Lol. But yeah I love those 70s early 80s Ford trucks. Miss seeing em like the ol daze. DON'T miss the rust 😬 that LOTTA em HAD on the rear 1/4s. Too bad we didn't have the necessary tools/replacement parts back when as we have today. Happy RESTORING 😎🤘🔥
Good Video, Im gonna try a similar technique but Im gonna try to somehow flange both vertical and horizontal but do the corners in a rounded shape to turn the corner with the flange tool, Im gonna try 3m body panel glue and button weld my fastener holes. I use to butt weld but am trying to turn the corner and update my method
you can also round the corner of the patch panel and keep the flange corner square. This lets the patch panel sit flush in the corners. I've had good success with this.
i butt weld everything tack it over the outside well for structure with a 1/4" lip behind and cut both panels one is really being ground on the edge as i cut trace around cutting at a 45 deg angle so the 2 panels lay together no gap cutting at a 45 allows this then i run my 180 lincoln wide open on heat with a were speed of 6 and i quick snap the trigger for a micro deep penetrating tack that is flat i use barely any mud and barely need metal finishing try it clean clean metal is the key
I'm thinking about getting that same patch panel to use. Was it really flimsy and too thin though? On AMDs website it shows it being 21 gauge thickness.

Fitzee is a sheet metal genius!
@@saltysteelgarage5585 if my crap looks half as good as his I’ll be stoked.

Awesome, thanks for your input, we’ve had nothing but success without using a fiberglass body filler but its definitely something to think about!
I have that same tool. It works pretty good. I like it too. ✌️
Whats the name of it, can't find it on HF

this one's a '78. Thanks
There are lotts of ways to repair a wheelwell. This is one of them.
I agree. The best way is when the rust hole gets filled with newspaper and bondo.😉😂😂

Thanks. I will try that. What wire do you use in your Lincoln? I certainly would love the welds to lay more flat for less grinding.
Nice work

If you plan on doing more of this work, you should invest in some Cleco fasteners and tool.
We had the Same idea. Stay tuned for the next video

try that on a newer chevy ford or dodge lol it will look like a roller coaster at 6 flags
I completely agree. I'll leave the newer car repair to the professional body shops. Just a hobby for me. Thanks for watching!
