Zach Galifianakis Bombs at Saturday Night Live
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 жов 2024
- Zach Galifianakis, like many other comics, dreamt of being a cast member on SNL, and despite some miscommunication about his placement in the crew, he got the chance to work there for a little while. Unfortunately he didn't last very long.

I don't think I have ever seen Zach talk so seriously for so long during an interview. Usually seems like he can't help but make jokes at least every 30 seconds or so. It's cool to see this side of him. Good work Sam!
Sam is great at disarming and getting intimate interviews from people. He’s one of the best to ever do it, IMO.
Robin Williams was the same way. I loved his comedy, but had to flip the channel if it was an interview.
Due date rest stop scene
"It's okay to fail. You should fail. It's just what you do with that failure." Actually very inspirational.
Tell that to the anti Trump Twerps who bring up his corporate BKs...
bellmeisterful Stop bringing politics into shit you fucking dumbass
@@bellmeisterful It's one thing to fail and own up to it. And it's another thing to fail and still think it's everybody's fault cause you're a "genius."
It takes failing to truly succeed.
@@bellmeisterful This comment aged well...
norm Mcdonald hosting : " they fired me from this show because I wasn't funny, but now I'm hosting it. So either they were wrong, or this show sucks."
or he got funnier, or he's a better host than writer
A G
No, Norm has always been funny.
The show sucks and is used as a political platform nowadays.
@@DANLAROCA-dx9gk Dan, why do I have to keep telling you... comedy has always been political.
he is sometimes funny but i read his book, it was not
Classic Norm. Love him!
1700s stand-up: “...Is this thing on? What IS this thing?” LOL
Clutch Cargo...very cool!
I’m not sure where I saw it but there is video of him dressed in a wig and fancy 1700s clothes doing that bit. Maybe on Comedians of Comedy but I can’t remember
PyrofreakStudios it’s not drunk history is it?
That’s actually a really great joke.
Here you go: ua-cam.com/video/rFxNgAPn9wY/v-deo.html
He is so awesome. His reverence for Tina Fey is not misplaced. That was a really awesome story and a cool moment to learn about. These intimate interviews are excellent. This host is great, he lets the guest speak and just puts a few loose guardrails on the conversation. Really enjoyed this one. Thank you !
Such a sweetheart of a human being. This series of interviews made me love him even more. Much love from the motherland
Motherland? Do you mean an alien ship? Are you telling me that aliens are real? I knew the government was lying. Oh, a weather balloon in Roswell, huh? And I believed them!!! Everyone run, aliens exist!!!
Even as someone not involved in entertainment at all I feel like there are a lot of great insights in a lot of these interviews that I can apply to my own life. That last part about "failing" especially.
exactly
Trying is not failing. Not trying is failing.
I agree! I love failure stories. I think stories of failure are underrated and can say a lot about how we truly overcome obstacles. Failure is a reality of life that I think a lot of People try to ignore.
I've definitely heard it before but seeing Zach say it with a smile was actually really comforting. That was the first time I've heard that, and believed it.
feel the same
I love LOVE to watch comedians talk about times when they bombed. It takes so much for you to get up there again and try once more, heal yourself and keep going. Sometimes I erase my own tweets after 20 minutes 'cause I'm afraid people mightn't have liked it. Can't imagine the shame it'd be to be in a room full of people reading something I wrote and realising it all fell flat, or worse, seeing it on the face of an audience right in front of me. Major respect.
Loved this! Hearing his perspective on how he handled such a disappointing moment is inspiring.
I really like these interviews, the actor isn't trying to be in character or a to be entertaining. It just feels really genuine.
“Know you’re going to fail and it’s good for you.”That should be on a t-shirt.
Should be printed and put on shirts for all the schools in America.
Bombing at SNL probably just means you're the funniest person in the room
You cant say the opposite about Bill Murray, Phil Hartman, Will Forte, Eddie Murphy, Gilda Radner or Bill Hader even.
Burn lol
@@fatima_hussein try to keep up guy. Let's be honest don't you think he was talking about the current Administration lol. But no you're that guy. Mister I can't read between the lines I take everything too literally.
@@trappedintime8273 I'm not a guy, lol. I get what he was trying to say. I was just trying to challenge him, jeez. Or I guess I really need you to explain this simple comment to me mr. I can read a UA-cam comment way better than you can, could you explain?
@@fatima_hussein clearly you have nothing better to do with your time 🤣 just amazing
I'd love to see the 1700s sketch.
He does a bit of it in _The Comedians of Comedy_
@@illuminati.official Right! He dresses up like a White wig from that era. Its a hilarious bit.
Zach - What's the deal with electricity? (Seinfeld voice, dressed as 1700 era gentleman)
It's in a documentary with Patton Oswald

I love zach. He seems like the most down to earth famous person there is. He’s just genuine and genuinely funny.
lmfao. Will Ferrell guarding Brittney Spears belly button would have been sooooo funny to me.
the Tina Fey story almost got me choked up because you can tell how much that moment of kindness meant to Zach even all these years later.
Probably one of the best interviews Ive seen in a long time. Zach is great, love his show alot. Cant wait to see the film!
This is so real, raw and human. Thanks for sharing!
The 17th century standup😂😂 god I love Zach!!
This interview is one of the best I’ve ever seen. Thanks Sam and Zach for being able to put your feelings out there about the industry like this.
It's so fucking refreshing to see comedians being normal when they probably feel the need to constantly be "on". That's what I love about this channel.
"Experience is just another name for mistakes" - O. Wilde. I still consider the Hangover one of the funniest movies ever, and his character of Alan is legendary.
For a second I was like "Olivia Wilde is beautiful, but I'm pretty sure she didn't say that" until I realized what the O. stood for.
Thanks, Zach. I really appreciate you taking the pressure off of all us other comedic failures. Fail at carpentry, lose a finger; fail at SNL, eviscerate your soul and be reborn as one of the most ubiquitous comedic actors of the last decade.
God, this guy is like the best interviewer. So honest and almost every single person he has on the show opens up to him. Props to the whole production.
Didn't he host? Sindenote: SNL sounds like a nightmare to work at
Ian McPherson years later after he became famous. When I saw the caption to this video I thought it was referring to a time when he hosted lol
His opening monologue was hilarious
It's like baptism thru comedy fire
Yes, Zack hosted. BTW, there are a number of SNL hosts who failed their auditions for the cast but became famous and came back to host - Steve Carell, Kevin Hart, Donald Glover, etc.
I don't know if it's a nightmare, but it's obviously a very competitive atmosphere.
You aren't going to get any help from anyone because you are potentially going to push them out of a job. There is no incentive to do anything that doesn't put a spotlight on yourself.
This kind of felt like a therapy session. I love it.
Man, I’m the entertainment world, I always feel that stand up comedy would be THE most terrifying medium to tackle.
Just someone handing you a microphone and saying “okay, be funny”.
Super admirable to go through with it.
That performance, that whistle, that song, that lyrics, the guitar playing... the interviewer at 3.45 everything is amazing at that video. Andrew is talented and this is beyond beautiful. Andrew come to spain ❤
This show is such a gem.
You can tell hes being real when you hear the Carolina in his voice
"in show business… just know that you're going to fail and that it's really good for you". GENIUS advice. Fact. But man does it hurt when you do. You've got to go through there to get to here.
Bodyguard to Brit’s belly button sounds like a funny sketch actually.
No, it really doesn't, it sounds terrible.
I'm thinking he was just thinking about britneys bellybutton a lot
I think it could have been funny.
Especially if Will Ferrell was being over the top overly protective of her bellybutton, but rather dismissive of the rest of her. You know, focus on the principal and don't get distracted.
If Will Ferrell wore his American flag speedo? WF as a bodyguard in a AF speedo? NOW do you see it? What is wrong with those people?
Will Ferrell would have made it funny, but probably not he best idea.
Michael Che didn’t know he was hired as a writer till Seth Meyers told him months later
Clearly "white privilege" at work.
That stand up from the 1700's actually sounds pretty funny. Love to see the whole bit
Most times I see him he's in a character or doing some bazaar comedy shtick. It was great to see him in this light. Great interview.
Zach on the Game of Game of Thrones, dressed as that dragon, is my favorite SNL skit ever! He and Bill were so amazing in that! "What is the capitol of Wisconsin?" "Alaska!"
I really like Zach as an actor but it is really cool to see him talk so genuinely. He's so interesting. Funny guy.
"Lasted 2 weeks at SNL, is that even possible?"
I dunno, ask Shane Gillis.
He seems so genuinely down to earth for such a successful actor. Comedians are generally more normal because they always go through Hell before they get anywhere. He’s honest with himself, I think. His stand up is so bizarre and yet genius.
This reminds me of the interview Sam did with Jenny Slate about her being fired from SNL. Everyone should check that one out.
Zach _really_ found the sweet-spot for his skill-set with "Between Two Ferns". The movie stuff for a lot of comic creators is pretty disposable, but when they can get in their wheel-house like that with the loosely scripted improv, it's timeless and can live for decades on UA-cam. I'd liken it to David's Spade best was "Hollywood Minute" where he roasted celebs with his smarmy, dry delivery.
This is the first interview where I see him being himself
I feel like he's on mushrooms 🍄
Loved the honesty of this chat. Nice.
Just know that you're gonna (might) fail and it's gonna be great for you. What a message.
This interview was so good I wish that Zach was serious more often. His comedy is my favorite. But I think we could all use his authentic wisdom as well.
He bombed because he is hilarious
I enjoy watching Zach being just "normal".
The most serious I've ever seen Zach.
The thinner he gets, the more serious he gets.
The sketch premise dosen't sound that bad. And SNL has so many off beat sketches but maybe it was a different time.
I think his humor would be perfect for snl these days.
@canthemum You righties are obsessed with the left lol
canthemum nothing they said mentioned right or left at all. Also nothing they said even points to them being left, maybe they’re in the middle?
@canthemum You too huh
"Just know that you're going to fail and it's really good for you."
never can tell when this zach is being serious.
These interviews are so damn good. Especially Zach's, I'm honestly thinking about signing up to the website ($5/month) just to see all of Zach's interview. Such a naturally funny, kind and insightful guy.
"Failing is good for you . You need to fail"- wisdom drop
Is that anything like a turd drop? Whoopsie! Did I get all over your deep-meaningfulness? Hope I didn't rob any of the serious intent out of there. I'll put my game-face back on and nod thoughtfully. HEY! I just got an idea! I'm gonna add in a chin stroke for good measure.
I personally consider Between two ferns to be genius on so many levels... I mean Hangover and the rest was so so but he really did well with his latest idea!
New to your channel. Ur awesome with ur guests...you allow them to speak and you actually listen. Got me as a subscriber
[4:25] "..you have to know that...in show business...especially something like...as vulnerable as stand-up [comedy] ... just know that...you're gonna fail and it's really good for you." --- Zach Galifianakis, theoffcamerashow, 09/2019, talking about how SNL didn't work out for him. (Thank you, Zach. And, thank you too, Sam Jones.)
I'm laughing hysterically at his description of these sketches, let alone the actual sketch. There is obviously a market for his type of humor, whether or not it's SNL. The lesson is you just have to find the right outlet for it.
Galifianakis has to be one of the most likable people in the entertainment industry. Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly too. Whether you like their humor or not - and I definitely do - they seem like legitimately down-to-earth guys in "real life."
Funny how the best interviewers are the ones that let the star speak and not try to be the star.
Great comedian and actor = Zach Galifianakis. Big fan!
"Howa yee, howa yee"- that is pretty funny to me.
One of the funniest things I heard Zach say, on SNL during his opening monologue - actually sitting at a piano and throwing off quick quips about his life. He said something about being kept back in school for three years because he couldn't spell his own name. That's funny!
"It's okay to fail." I love that.
Zach has a radiant intellect which he cannot hide very well. It's intimidating to even watch him sometimes as he can kill your ego with just a flashing glance. A talent that has not yet been properly place but still thrives (His great voice work). This channel seems to have the best toolkit in interview style to bring out some of the best human sides of our enjoyed performers.
I'm confused regarding this series of camera recorded videos titled "Off Camera"
THANK YOU 🤣
my first question was, "is this a podcast"
thought i was the only pedant in here
What a sweetheart.
It is hard to believe someone so sincere and intelligent tried to drive a giraffe under an overpass. ( sorry, spoiler alert)
Wow this was inspirational!
This boys got some sick vans. Love the color!
Serious Zach is really wonderful to listen to.
Zach's 3 second excerpt from his 1700's stand up routine was funnier than anything I've seen from SNL in a long time.
haha maybe give snl a second chance then, there’s something for everyone if you look for it
Zack channeling Don Rickles at the beginning! 😁🤣
My favorite talk show ever
That 18th century stand up bit sounds hilarious.
Jim Carrey didn't even make it. He has done some of the funniest stuff on there as a host. He even improved the Night at the Roxberry skit.
John Goodman was also turned down, and I think he's like second or third on the all time hosting list.
He's such a down to earth guy on top of being very intelligent, insightful and charming.
Not to mention, handsome (yes, also when he was chubbier - he just has a very plesant face to look at)
"chubby chaser" is a real deal, then? 😁
Developing resistance and character!
but Zack was once the host of the SNL , aired back in 2010! It's just interesting to see some talented actors who didn't last long in SNL got to host the show later.
These two have a great rapport
Will Ferrell guarding Britney Spears belly button sounds funnier than a lot of snl sketches I’ve seen lately, just sayin
I'm a failed carpenter. I might go and fail again today
He meant that everyone makes mistakes. Every carpenter has had a fuck-up.
I love Zach, but whenever I hear a celebrity talk about learning from failure I always have that voice in my head that says, "But 99% of actors/musicians/etc. fail and keep failing, and their career goes nowhere. What would you say to them?"
That was fantastic.
Zach is a really Dope and genuine person 🙏🏾👑
his father would be proud
Between 2 Ferns is fucking comedy gold. There is no debate. It is the best comedy I have seen in years. C’mon if you can get Obama go appear on your show, you know you have nailed it.
Man, what a great interview
Love him so
Cant imagine Zach NOT being funny. Id be the only one in that room laughing.
Zach is a good soul
"How are ye, how are ye? Is this thing on? What is this thing?"
Gotta love that golden age of stand-up from the 1700s.
I see you have no likes ...would you like me to drop you a like?
I think a big part of life is staying true to who you think you are, and not giving a fuck about what other people think about you, hard as that may be
What an awesome humble guy. So unpretentious.
Will Ferrell as the bodyguard to Britney Spears’ bellybutton is hilarious. Zach is really goofy and sophisticated. Rare combo. Eddie Izzard comes to mind too.
I just had a job interview and needed this.
That was a great interview.
All the times he hosted were great shows.
I remember first seeing him on "True Calling"
Amazing interview Ive bever seen him do an interview this real
Fuck you. Fuck is wrong with you!?
"You are going to fail and it is really good for you."
