Thanks for explaining how the power current works in this video, it helped me resolve an issue I was having with my tilt pump. Happy boating! 👍

Thanks for this video. I'm working on my 1977 SR 187 & Mercruiser 165 with T & T issues. (Trim only goes partially down) Still haven't figured it out but this definitely helps with troubleshooting. Cheers from Upstate NY.

How important are the trim sensors? Just wondering if I should fix them as the previous owner cut the wires at the stern drives and possibly I need to run a new wire which is a difficult task?

Depends on your opinion , I have ran sweveral boats for years without and i'm running a boat now without them. You just need to be carfull not to over extend the motor

Hi I have a 78 sr190 with 160hp merc. I was curious if my solenoid is the same and if so did you have a part# I was told by a boat repair shop that I need a new trim solenoid but they weren’t sure which one I needed? Just thought I’d ask since yours is the same year.

Hi Jason sorry I missed this post. The part number on the one I replaced was 89-853654 0803W 12Volt. I always get a clymer manual or search the web for the electrical schematics. They are basic solenoids so you can tray a variety that is close and usually succeed.

My solenoid makes noise when I hit the switch up or down. It only moves the drive down though, and when I press the up switch it makes a grinding type sound. Bad solenoid??

Hi Chad with out being on-site sounds like a bad solenoid. To be sure I would try that first and change it out. They are typically $ 20 -$30 bucks. I would also check the internet for similar sounds some of the threads can contain what is going on. Third pick the guys brain at the parts counter and get the solenoid from a marina or boat counter. Hope this helps keep me posted
