  • In this video, I will show you how to inspect and test your Trim/Starter Solenoids for your Mercruiser (and maybe OMC, Volvo). I will also give a basic rundown of how they work.
At the end, I attempt to disassemble and fix the solenoids to keep as backups!
    Stay Tuned!

Excellent informative video. Now I have the rest of the story and confidence to troubleshoot & repair my issue of outboard not trimming back down. Thanks!

This is a really helpful explanation about the solenoid, thank you for sharing! I am going to add the remote trim switch to mine too, I'll be giving you a shout-out! :)

Thank you. This was really helpful. And really easy to listen to and learn from. My trim pump isn’t working. So need to investigate the solenoids. And wanted to know what they do. You have enlightened me. Thank you.

Super informative video! Helpful with my trim pump clicking diagnosis, and actually a better understanding of testing resistance of relays/solenoids. 👍

Thanks for excellent video - had a few problems with tilt solonoids on my boat which are awkward to get to - and even to jump if necessary. Tried to re-furbish myself and concluded same as you - had to replace.

Thanks for watching! I'm actually getting ready to release a new video on installing a remote trim switch which bypasses the solenoids... Can save your butt if you're pulling your boat out of the water and can't get your drive to go up...

Hi, thanks for the informational and thorough videos, I really learned something! You said the coil wires where "resistance soldered", I tried to solder mine off but ended up just prying them off the studs. But then I had a really hard time soldering them back on with the little black things on them. Do you have any tips on how to do the soldering part (releasing and resoldering)? Are they actually resistors or can I just cut those off and solder the wire directly on the nut?

Could you show the wiring of the tilt down circuit instead of the up???

thanks for the info, question, why do you think a my trim going down works but the trim going up keeps blowing fuses?

    • @ashipshow

Sounds like you might have a clogged hydraulic line or maybe messed up trim rams... It seems that its taking an additional amount of force to push the drive up, but gravity is helping on the way down so its not blowing the fuse.

Too much extraneous information. This could have been a five minute video. Not three days.
