This WILD HOG Came Out Of Nowhere While I Was Catching Fish In My New Boat!

- This is my first trip out on the water in my new Hobie Lynx Kayak so I decided to stay close and fish in a protected creek for speckled trout and redfish. Earlier that morning I thought I had seen a wild pig near the bank but didn't see it any more until I was heading back towards the launch and I ended up getting probably 10ft or so from it before it seen me! The MR18 Mirrodine and @southernsalt Hoodwink baits were my lures of choice for the dozens of speckled trout and white trout that I caught this morning along with a few undersize redfish.

I bought a small ranch in Central Texas a couple of years ago. One of the first things we found was a large herd of wild hogs on our property. My husband placed a shot over their heads one morning to scare the off and we haven’t seen them since. However, shortly after the herd disappeared, a couple of baby hogs, brother and sister, came and adopted my Pot Belly pig and would crawl through the bars of his paddock and sleep in the hay with him. Several months went by and then the little male disappeared. The little female stayed and became used to us and would let us walk right by her without running off. We named her Wilma. First year went by and Wilma disappeared. We were heartbroken. But then three months later, she showed back up. This time with two babies in tow. We named them Pebbles and BamBam. They are now as tame or tamer than their mom. They live at our barn, and roam all over the area. Our neighbors have been made aware of them, so hopefully no one will shoot them.
That's a heck of a experience you had there, never heard of anything like that. Actually Amazing .
I love this kind of vid! What you might think about doing is getting a lighter outfit, something like a 6-12#. You would be a little under gunned on an over slot red but it would make the speck fishing a lot more fun. The kayak vids are going to be cool to watch. Sure there are other kayak channels, but those guys are just too loud. I like your laid back approach. Those Z-Man scented paddlerz would be a killer in those creeks.
That’s awesome that southern salt came out with the white and chartreuse color. I’ve been buying them since they came out, and I’ve always dipped the tail of the white color in SpikeIt to achieve that. Definitely a deadly combo 👍🏻 The Cajun Pepper color with the tail dipped in chartreuse does awesome as well.
No doubt, they definitely catch fish and have some great colors to choose from!

Your can get a 1×4 and drill 2 1inch holes . Get 2 tether balls and tie them with a rope to each end of the 1×4. It stabilizes the kayak . Kids can dive in off the side.

I’ve got the same Lynx setup, yak crate, even have the same onyx PFD.
Some things I’ve got since buying the Lynx are collapsible net, yak attack cellblok for my Garmin striker Vivid 4cv, AR tube rod holder, anchor (Superstick), academy Magellan fish bag, torpedo bait bucket, and propel paddle gear 360 light on the yak crate.
Don’t always bring it all but can prepare you for fishing most spots.
It’s a fishing machine requires low maintenance and takes about 2-5 minutes to put it together.

I’m gonna give it a few try’s
We used to scale, gut and fry those smaller white trout the size of the first one you caught and man was they good. We used to do smaller whiting that way too and if they were any bigger we’d remove the head and fry on the bone. That’s the best tasting fish is on the bone. Reckon why the fish taste better when cooked on the bone or is it just in our head? That’s my favorite way to eat freshwater fish for sure but I’m not gonna be turning em loose if they’re a little to big for frying whole. We do save the backbones from all the fish we fillet and fry them up after all the fillets are done and the adults for take in the fish chip and scrapping meat off the bone with a fork.

I took the straps off my pedals. To adjust for your leg length you can push the grey buttons down on the top of the pedals and move them where you want them.

Ha, nice. I don’t know much about the Lynx but I’ve got an Outback. I split my time wading, a 25’ bay boat, and the kayak. The kayak’s a blast in the creeks.

I know for a fact Deer don't have a natural fear of anything on the water . It appears Hogs aren't in fear of any threats from the water. I've been Duck hunting and have had Deer come within ten feet of the boat in shallow water . But the Nine pointer didn't get a pass like the rest . Ducks , aBuck and 9 big Crappie .

Nice sled. I like the setup. Nathan Rich uses the heck out of his, but it kinda drives me crazy that he doesn't have rod holders. I keep worrying for him that he's gonna lose a rod and reel setting them down on the deck. I like the H-Rail style rod holder.
Bought a kayak few months back and learned real quick to stay simple and the second thing is if your fishing for a reason then have a net.
Yea for sure. I don’t plan on adding anything else than what I’ve got. And I e got the net to practice using using it for future tournaments

Do you ever use Paul Brown corkies for winter specks? My in-laws use them a lot in Louisiana but they ain’t popular in the Florida panhandle and have never used them.
I havnt personally thrown them a lot however my buddy has been experimenting with them lately. From what I’ve seen you won’t get near as many bites but the few that you do get are quality fish

Do you have a particular type of jigheads that you prefer or just whatever you can get your hands on?
I really like “deathgrip jigheads”. They hold on to baits very well. My second choice would be the Eyestrike trout eye jig head
