About the laughing smiley on the photo.. maybe I would retire it. Ok, the cars look funny (and spectacular), but we do deserve the same respect as every other quick driver 😌.
The 205 was my first car. It was a simple 205 GL 1.1, but by far among the funniest and most reliable car I ever drove. When I see one, it always give me a big smile remembering myself the good old times.
I think it would be fun to hit the Ring in a shit box worth only a couple hundred quid. I mean, yeah sure it would be nice to go round in a car with a million horsepower, top speed of Mach 3 and suspension so firm it would hurt running over worm, but I reckon it is more fun with a slow old banger with suspension so soft you go round each corner on the wing mirrors and brakes that fade anytime you go near the pedal. Plus if you do break it, no worries, socket set and duct tape, jobs done.

My merc is my first car and it's not the sweetest car by any strech of the imagination but I sure make it up with having learned and still learning to drive a slow car fast. I live in Finland so I can flirt with gravel road madness and also winters are a great equaliser between cars so speed is all in the driver and I live by a saying which roughly translated means boot is love and mercy is sickness. It's a fantastic feeling balancing on the slippery edge between control and the snow banks/ditches and enjoyment is inevitable even on a mundaine drive to school. The feeling of a succesful corner with a nice scandinavian flick is amazing compared to just hitting the throttle on the apex and sliding for sliding's sake. When I bought the car I decided I'll drive it to the scrapyard and see what I manage to fit into that trip, so far 1.5 years and going strong!
Until you crash... The toll is affordable, but crashing can be pretty expensive. Especially when you damage the barrier. That can be more expensive than buying a new car!
Few weeks ago my friend and I took a 70hp golf to the ring, and it was SO much fun!! It was crucial to get up mutkurve, and the steeper parts of the track, but man we had a blast

(5eme 2000rpm, 50kmh, 4000rpm 120km) she didn't good in the forest road. Je la refais en francais. Ma twingo 1 tenait très bien la route dans les virages, je pense que le poid du moteur et le fait qu'elle soit basse sur roue y était pour beaucoup. En plus de ne pas être un superveau je m'amusais bien avec. J'ai une 205gt, un peu bricolée, elle abattait le 100kmh en 9s contre une conso d'environ 10l/100km (1,4l double corp) une vraie balle pour une berlinette de son âge. Par contre il ne fallait pas essayer de rouler fort dans les virages le train avant continuant tout droit malgré une suspension en parfaite état et de très bon pneus. Et je suis d'accord on peut très bien s'amuser avec une "pocket car".
@@statesidesupercars I had a red 16v wagon until the oil pump bolt sheared off. The timing belt drives the oil pump so when the pulley came there wasn’t much timing happening. This left the valves hanging and they got a walloping! All at 700rpm in reverse out of a mate’s drives way. Didn’t have the $$$ for an engine rebuild at the time so sold it as a roller. 😢 It was heaps of fun, handling is surprisingly good when you get used to the body roll and that motor was a great thing when working. I’d get another at the drop of a hat.

And the soft suspension means so much of the weight shifts onto one tyre you have to wonder how it even holds onto the rim!
They also have better cornering do to their height just it’s scary😂

@@statesidesupercars I had a red 16v wagon until the oil pump bolt sheared off. The timing belt drives the oil pump so when the pulley came there wasn’t much timing happening. This left the valves hanging and they got a walloping! All at 700rpm in reverse out of a mate’s drives way. Didn’t have the $$$ for an engine rebuild at the time so sold it as a roller. 😢
It was heaps of fun, handling is surprisingly good when you get used to the body roll and that motor was a great thing when working. I’d get another at the drop of a hat.
