oooh you guys, this is so exciting, can't wait to hear how it all worked out for you! i hope you're happy with the choice you made and that you'll be able to hit the road soon! it's sooo much fun living the van life... have an amazing week!!! xx
What I wouldn't give to have a woman look at me the same way Dana looks at Lou. You are both inspiring and an excellent example of what a thrill for adventure and genuine love/ respect between two people can accomplish.
Yay! So excited about your van journey and I hope you find the one that feels like home! Can't wait for part 2 after this beautiful intro to the story!!
Just remember like the grit stone that you are choosing something that is hard but so worth it! I have faith in you guys to accomplish the task! & slow and steady wins the race!
As we talked about when you first told me about this project, I would LOVE to traval and live for a while in a van but ... after seeing this it looks like SO much work and knowing absolutely nothing about cars it seems even impossible ... can't wait to see the rest of your adventure! :)x
something you can do that I recommend to anyone who doest know a lot about cars is you can pay a mechanic to go out and look at a vehicle before you buy it. This may be different in other parts of the world but here in the US you can generally find someone to ride out with you and take a look at something you're interested in if you call around local mechanics and maybe throw some cash their way. Other than that learning isn't that difficult, theres plenty of information online on what to look for when buying older cars, most of it very simple and self explanatory like "as little rust as possible". If you really want to dont deny yourself because it seems difficult :).
Pixel Spy We have much the same in the UK, both RAC and AA (Automobile Association, not the other one) will go with you. As they are big organisations they are very objective in their opinions.
Thanks so much for watching Emy! We miss you! Yeah it's been a lot of work but I really think you would easily be able to do it yourself if you decide you really want to put in the time and do the research. As some other people have recommended, we had a professional mechanic inspect the cars we were interested in to make sure that everything was okay and then from there it's just about building out the interior yourself, but there are also plenty of vans that you can buy with that already all set, they are just quite a bit more expensive usually depending on what you want, sometimes theres also some really cheap options available if you don't want a bathroom/shower set up. Can't wait to see you sometime soon! ---Lou PS, your video from your recent trip to Kazakhstan was really really beautiful!
I'm really pleased you got your channel back up and running in time for this. We'll all be living your adventures with you, by proxy of course, the van won't be big enough to fit us all in. You are both great planners, and Lou in particular seems meticulous in what he does, both of these are characteristics I envy you for. As someone else says if you can get a mechanic, or motoring organisation, to give your chosen van a once over it could pay dividends. I truly hope this journey in your life gives you everything you want from it.
Thanks Mark! Yeah, we had a special mechanic service check out the car and do a full 250 point check where they went through every little detail to make sure its all good, which was a relief to make sure someone qualified was taking a look! ---Lou
As I watched the video, I was torn between excitement and anxiety. Having bought old cars, the anxiety around shopping for them is huge. Since I always wanted a Mini, was interested to see how small the rental car was. Can't wait to see how the rehab goes, always loved working on John's old cars and working on construction projects -- creative in their own way. Counting the days to next week!!!
Omg, you guys, Squarespace sponsorship? Awesome! 😄 We just watched part 1 here eating dinner while surrounded by our partly packed up house. Can't wait to see what you pick. On to part 2!
Thanks Greg, we could not be more excited about working with Squarespace, they are our dream sponsor, and it looks like we're going to be working with them for a while, can't believe they even found our little channel! ---Lou
great job guys! I love the check list idea. i recently bought a 85 buick regal lol a lot different from your guys potential van but I still ensured I knew what problems to look for with each vehicle year I looked at. loved this one! being a gearhead
Thanks Avery! The checklist was super helpful, just for mental prep, and to keep track of things, but I forgot to fill out most of the stuff during the visit and had to do it all afterwards, but even just knowing what to look at helped a lot ; ) ---Lou
Thanks Peppi! Always cool to hear where people are watching from, we seem to have a lot of people watching in the Philippines, it's so so cool!! ---Lou
Ahh I'm going back and watching all your videos I missed (thanks college) ! I love this, it's so exciting and I think I'm the end all this hard work will pay off :D
Thanks Dani! We've loved our website building experience so far, Dana has been able to create some really amazing posts, I'm so proud of her : ) ---Lou
I really like your videos guys! I hope you could find your perfect van, without any rust and mechanicals engine problems, and convert it into your home. Answering your question, I think that the perfect van is the second one, so I think that you have chosen it. Even so, any of the other two van are a good choice too. I hope you the best and I can´t wait until the second part of the video. Best wishes from Spain. PS: I really like you blog, it´s amazing!
Thanks so much Carlos! And for checking out the website, we've had so much fun building out our new blog, it really feels like the perfect home for Wild We Roam and all our crazy ideas ; ) ---Lou
Thanks so much! Glad you so many people liked it, I was a little nervous uploading such a long video cause normally we go for around 10 minutes or less but seems like people really liked it! ---Lou
Hahaha, I've been getting this a lot lately : ) Theres definitely some resemblance, and we both have very similar hats that we always wear. Maybe one day I can meet him in person! ---Lou
Thanks Irene! We haven't really looked into tiny houses much because we want to hit the road, and having lived in a tiny nyc apartment for two years I don't think we will ever live in a truly tiny house, but we are looking into shipping container homes when we do settle down, so that might be something to consider if you haven't already! Seems like tiny houses are primarily a way to avoid regulations and keep energy costs low, but they aren't necessarily the cheapest way to build a house ---Lou
Shame that #4 and #2 can't match together! I don't know if you already purchased it but deff a running one is the best option, I will say go for #2 if you can as it might be the best one. #3 sounds bad and it's rusty, and #1 if it's been not running for a long period is never a good option. Hope you get the one you like and the best of them, Best wishes!
Thanks Dani! Yeah, we really wanted to find one that actually is in use and running, not sitting on some lot for years at a time without being driven, seems risky to me ; ) ---Lou
Wild We Roam Your welcome Lou, yes sounds risky also to me too Hopefully you will or you already have found a good one, but cars that old usually are risky and hard to find in proper condition
I'm so excited for you guys and wish you the best of luck to find a great van! Currently, I'm getting my driver's license and I've been looking for a nice vehicle as well so I know that it can be tough and nerve-wracking... But I'm convinced that you too will manage everything somehow... :) Also, (if you haven't already) check out Dylan Magaster. He makes the most beautiful mini-documentaries about people on the road. Truly inspiring!
Thanks so much for watching and for the nice comment : ) Good luck with the drivers license, that's the first big step, after that it all gets easier! ---Lou
Thanks Dennis! Originally we dreamed of getting picked up by something like that but now we really like our little community on youtube and just want to keep doing this ; ) although I wouldn't mind working on a planet earth one day but that's a long shot! ---Lou
My sister loves your channel so much she talks about you guys all the time! And I can see why. Keep doing a great job!!! Btw my sister also wants to move to Germany any advice for her like looking for a job, etc. Hope you reply thanks
Thanks so much Calise! I would say its much easier to move to germany as a student than trying to find a job, but if you want to work and not study then some sort of art/freelance job is definitely a good option, its also worth learning a lot of german before hand because there will be a mountain of paperwork and visa meetings, but its all worth it in the end! ---Lou
Love your videos! Where do you find your background music? I'm starting to produce some different stuff and im having trouble finding stuff thats not copyrighted. Thanks in advance!
Thanks! We ask musicians on soundcloud individually one at a time if we can use their music, it's a long process but a ton of talented people have helped us out with free music : ) ---Lou
Thanks! I've been dreaming of buying an old pentax or hassi for a while now, but haven't had the money/time to make the leap, but its high on my wishlist : ) ---Lou
Thanks man : ) Hope you're doing well! I'm starting to look for some new music for our videos, any recommendations for smaller accounts on soundcloud who might help us out? --Lou
It probably doesn't have anything to do with your video and your trip (which, btw, looks awesome and i wish you the best) but i really think, for some weird reason, that you should meet with Cam and Nina (another vegan super cool couple on UA-cam, in case you haven't heard about them), i think you would connect so well... idk, it's just a thought. xx
Thanks so much Larissa! We've actually been internet friends with them for years, and I think this coming year they may come to Europe and hang with us in the van ; ) ---Lou
If you are still looking for a van. I could recommend you this dealer. He has a lot of old firefighters and police vehicles. which shouldn't be a problem since you want to built the inside on your own? This cars shouldn't have rust issues since they were always parked in garages and they are all well maintained to. The car dealer should also be able to prepare you the paperwork for a "Oldtimer" registration. home.mobile.de/AUTOMARKT-STUTTGART#ses_235501392
Hi Tim, thanks for sending this over! We looked at this dealer a lot but most of the cars are out of our price range, and on top of that they don't have hardly any kilometers on them which makes me nervous because as they're all 30 years old it means they've been sitting inside for decades without being driven which isn't so good for a car, I'd rather take a little rust then the uncertainty of an old car that's never been driven, I've heard from a lot of mechanics and car people that its really risky to get cars that aren't driven since that can create a whole world of problems inside the car you wouldn't be able to see from the outside, especially without any real car knowledge! ---Lou
So much love the way you look at each other.
It's true : ) Soo nice to just be on the road and on our own, I think that's why we were so happy on this little road trip! ---Lou
It‘s so nice to see my home country through your eyes. It‘s beautiful and so are your videos 😊
You guys are the cutest! I love how supportive Dana always is.
She really is the BEST! ---Lou
I loved the scrolling with your hand trick!!!
I need to watch you in order! It’s weird to go back two years, I like to watch you or listen on my morning walk. Very inspiring
oooh you guys, this is so exciting, can't wait to hear how it all worked out for you! i hope you're happy with the choice you made and that you'll be able to hit the road soon! it's sooo much fun living the van life... have an amazing week!!! xx
Thanks so much Lina! We are so so looking forward to it : ) ---Lou

Yay! So excited about your van journey and I hope you find the one that feels like home! Can't wait for part 2 after this beautiful intro to the story!!
Thanks so much catherine! We couldn't be more exciting! If only it wasn't taking soooo long! There's just so much paperwork its crazy ; ) ---Lou
Just remember like the grit stone that you are choosing something that is hard but so worth it! I have faith in you guys to accomplish the task! & slow and steady wins the race!
Nice addition to the journey, can't wait to learn how the purchase worked out, and if seller agreed to sell closer to your schedule. Good luck!
Thanks so much Joe : ) Already started editing part 2! --Lou

That's so exciting, I am already imagining all the adventures! I think you guys conviced the owner to change her plans and got the second van :D
Thanks so much Cintia : ) I don't want to give anything away, but I'm already working on the second part of this video : ) ---Lou

watching your videos makes me so very happy and always makes me look forward to Tuesdays :)
Thanks so much Evelyn! Personally, my favorite day is wednesday when the video is up and I get to read all these awesome comments ; ) ---Lou

The 2nd van was definitely awesome and retro looking, hope you guys can get it
Thanks so much Alejandro! That's our favorite as well ; ) ---Lou

If you want to se some REALLY single track roads... you should definitely come to the Islands of Scotland.
Hahaha, single track makes me nervousss as a driver but super excited as a filmmaker ; ) ---Lou
It's so crazy looking back at these videos now that they've sold Odie
So happy for you guys! Just curious, what are your option on a tiny house versus a van home?
Thanks Irene! We haven't really looked into tiny houses much because we want to hit the road, and having lived in a tiny nyc apartment for two years I don't think we will ever live in a truly tiny house, but we are looking into shipping container homes when we do settle down, so that might be something to consider if you haven't already! Hahaha, thanks so much Cecille, it's always funny when people comment before watching ; ) ---Lou
Excited for episode 2 guys. Well done! Will you be travelling just around Germany in your van or can we expect to see more of Europe :)
Thanks George! We're going all over Europe, probably not much time in Germany since theres so much other stuff we haven't seen at all! ---Lou
Love your stuff
I love watching your video's it's a pity someone like Discovery channel dont take you on.
Thanks Dennis! Originally we dreamed of getting picked up by something like that but now we really like our little community on youtube and just want to keep doing this ; ) although I wouldn't mind working on a planet earth one day but that's a long shot! ---Lou

Glad you liked this one Theo ; ) Looking forward to seeing you around the comments section in the future! ---Lou

Do you guys work all the time on your videos/creative, or do you have a specific work schedule that you follow?
Hmm wonder if they'll go with number 2? lol
What is your typical budget for a van and how many miles do you look for on it?
you guys should shoot more film in the vlogs and perhaps consider diving into medium format :)
Thanks! I've been dreaming of buying an old pentax or hassi for a while now, but haven't had the money/time to make the leap, but its high on my wishlist : ) ---Lou
Van 2 is your best bet. Take it from a 25 year mechanic.
That's great to hear : ) : ) ---Lou
love you both very much
Thanks man : ) Hope you're doing well! I'm starting to look for some new music for our videos, any recommendations for smaller accounts on soundcloud who might help us out? --Lou
Wild We Roam yes, definitely! lemme shoot you an email tonight after work!
Thank YOU : )

Hey, sorry for not answering. Just saw you latest video. Definitely not a bad desertion. I wish both of you a ton of fun in your new home.
The green van was pretty :(
Yeah we really liked that one except for all the rust and lack of papers, but it was pretty at least ; ) ---Lou
Thanks Jamie!! ---Lou
Thanks so much : ) ---Lou
