    Its so refreshing to have someone do a realistic van life video. My wife and I live in a tinyhouse and we love it.. BUT! There were certainly times mostly at the beginning which down right sucked. We have also slept in our car while traveling and its really weird at first. So many UA-camrs just sugar coat everything when it comes to alternative living but many aspects are sour too

      It sounds like this is not so much a "van failure" as it is a major Heat Emergency for that area.
      People DIE on these heat emergencies... it is no joke. Nothing to do with van life.

    • @faithrada
      @faithrada 5 років тому +15

      @Aika Papa No doubt there is some give and take there. Some city apartments are on the first floor.... while a van could be driven away to a somewhat safer area.
      I had a small Winnebego with an air conditioner and we stayed at some very nice parks.
      Sadly the over-all issue is lack of money. With money one can buy at least some security.
      The level of homelessness in this country is ... imho .. Inexcusable. We need to do better. The gap between the Haves and the Have Nots .. is widening .. and that's bad news for everyone.
      Peace

      Yes, my husband and I have lived in a travel trailer for 9 years. It fits our lifestyle, but it has its pitfalls and irritations. I feel it's romanticized on social media. When my friends consider RV life, I don't sugar coat anything. It's simply not for everyone.

    I guess the most confusing thing for me is why people don't live in vans with better engines. You mentioned the van overheating in traffic. If you have an income source, and you're making the choice to live in a van because you want to, why not invest in a van you can trust?

    Guys! Thank you for showing us not only the good parts of your adventure, but also how hard is it to build from scratch what we give for granted when living in a house. Makes you really notice the little details that you tend to ignore, and be thankful of them.
    And although it seemed that life was hard those weeks of construction while living on the van, I'm pretty sure they will be saved fondly in your memory for ever.

    I get so emotional and sappy when I see a couple get vulnerable together. Like when you were crying and doe eyed like a sweet little girl and him comforting you was the cutest thing. I love being able to resort to our original small selves when with our s/o. Such a great feeling to be emotionally held when necessary

    This video is about the tiniest things that we take for granted in our convenient living spaces nowadays and when you are building that living space from scratch how difficult that can be. So happy for the both of you and the hard work you put into your van! :)

    Some advice to you nice folks.. The lock installed on the back of the Van, storing away your Important stuff needs to be changed. Why? because the screws on the lock are exposed and that makes it a "Useless Lock" and easy to be accessed by any one with a screw driver or even a nail clipper or knife... Yes these screws exposed can be taken off easy and the Lock removed Easy!!! and wallaa 'Stolen Stuff" !!! yes Van life is hard I did it long ago and it was challenging but possible... yet very challenging.. I wish you both the best! Love your Video :-)

    You two are the cutest couple. God bless you and your journey. Enjoy every minute. I do understand how difficult life gets. My husband and I bought 12 acres and put a cabin/shed on it. Most days we fight to get things livable and comfortable. The struggle is real. But then I look out and see this amazing ,beautiful , glorious place with huge butterflies and tons of blackberries. That’s when I fall in love with the dream all over again. I hope you fall in love everyday with your beautiful surroundings and embrace each moment of you amazing dream / live together. Peace, Leslye

    mosquitoes really dislike coffee, if you get a hand-grinder and grind coffee and brew it , dry the grounds you can burn them like incense and they will stay away, you can also but the grounds in socks and hang them from the window the smell keeps lots of bugs away, plus you have fresh ground delicious coffee as a bonus

    Heat is hard- I think that's a big thing, if it had been cold you could snuggle up and stuff but heat is just oppressive and inescapable. This is what scares me because I live in the subtropics- especially with global warming it gets worse every year. it's winter here now and about 25C which is liveable but honestly I have a mental breakdown in my aircon-less house every day in summer so I can't imagine being in such a confined and over-packed space. You both have such a great attitude and beautiful relationship

    • @1framistan
      @1framistan 5 років тому +19

      I did experiments to see how I could cool my house WITHOUT air conditioning. I figured out that the attic gets as hot as 158F during daytime. That's like living underneath an OVEN,. It caused my living space to be about 93F. Here was the solution: I bought a bag of hydrated lime from the hardware store for about 12 dollars. I mixed it with water and painted my roof with the SUPER white color. This caused my attic temperature to go down to about 100F... and my living area to go to about 82F!!! It wasn't air conditioning, but it was bearable. If you go to the website builditsolar.com you can do a search for "WHITE ROOF experiment. There is a lot more details at that site. The good thing about this system is is cools your house for less than 20 bucks. It uses NO MOVING PARTS. It just sits there and reflects all that heat and works.

      In South Florida there only two months that are tough and I found it's cooler near the beach and seems to be okay after midnight. For those months i just drove 500 miles north and it was noticeably cooler. 75F and lower at night seems to be fine with good fan/ventilation. The trick of the van is to not be inside during the middle of day 11am-4pm. Also, having a mirror vinyl roof film, a big solar panel or deck to block the sun helps too.

    Thank you for being so honest and REAL!!! I do not want to see those sugar coated videos from other youtubers...I want to see what it REALLY FEELS like living on the road, because it is much more inspiring than watching something fake/unrealistic. This gives me the right perspective and confidence of considering if I could live in a van too, because this is REAL information. It matters much more how do you really feel about your life than what it seems like. Lots of vanlife-videos don't touch the emotional impact of living in so limited space etc...And how a little trouble turns to be a big one when you depend of everything working. Thank you so so much for making this video! Thank you and good luck with your adventure!!!

    Another thing I love about your videos are that they seem more natural, both with the timing of the movement and the content. You shoot scenes without all the movement of the camera. You just focus on one thing for an extended period of time and talk about that. it's nice. I don't like camera techniques that are too fast-paced. It can even sometimes make me feel a little motion-sick. And y'all are good about keeping the camera still which also prevents issues with viewers getting motion sick. Thank you.

    I like your video style. i would say perfection is the enemy of progress. I wouldn't trade my months on the road in version 1 or 2 of my van build. And I'm really enjoying the reinvention on my van camper into v3. I think's vanlife is an evolution and beautiful inner journey as well as you keep taking inventory of what you need to be happy in life. Best of luck to you guys!

    Thanks for showing us the good, the bad and the ugly parts of van live. I don't think I'll ever experience van life so it's nice to vicariously live through your adventures. I'm from California and it's currently on fire in a lot of counties, so I'm very interested in the next video! It's scary how fast fires spread. Hope you guys are alright. Ps. Wow, that'd be really cool to see your transition from van life to boat life, I know that's a plan for the future, and I hope you'll take this channel along for the ride when the time comes,

    I'm surprised you didn't get a temporary storage unit for the stuff and materials. But good job working out the kinks on the way

    I appreciate so much how honest you two are. It could have been easy to leave all of this out but you didn't and I think that's extremely valuable ❤️

    I am so happy things finally are working out for you two. I hope your experiences in vaning are nothing but exciting, adventurous and life fulfilling for you both. Life has ups and downs, but it is how you handle it is what counts. Love all the vaning videos. I cannot wait until my time comes. My goals is to travel, have a back up home incase I want to leave my apartment and visit friends and have my own place to sleep in.

    I like that you guys have a really interesting story to your van life. You didn't get to build it in the comfort of a garage. You got a really cool backstory with it and you know what it is like to appreciate the little things of van life. Good for you. Also van life construction I feel like is never officially over ;)

    I feel this. Social media has definitely sold people on a lot of false realities.

    Wow again nice video? food for thought? you can shower inside your van very simple? all you need is a plastic builders rubble bucket they are about 500mm across the top one shower curtain and hook and hoop for the top of the curtain? one very small water pump and six feet of hose with shower head? 1... put the hook in the ceiling put centre area of kitchen put the shower curtain on the hoop then place on the hook let it hand down inside the bucket fill the bucket with two gallons or there about with warm water place the pump in the water hang the shower head over the top then step in the bucket pull the curtain around your self and into the bucket? then boyfriend plugs the the end of the the electric lead 12 volt into the cigarette light or similar this will start the shower you can stand there for as long as you like to shower as the water pumps from the bucket up over you and falls back into the bucket via the shower curtain hence non stop shower ? best wishes Ken and Christine xxx

    My husband and I love your videos. I shared the RA ones and the water fast and recovery refeeding with a friend that has RA and I hope she does it. I hate to hear of her in so much inflammation and pain everyday. Thank you for sharing all- I love the views and the beach in portugal. It was a great spot.
