this has been my favourite youtube fanvid for years. 1ofthe greatest funeral doom songs ever AND sir patrick stewart. No amount of thumbs will ever be sufficient to express how much I appreciate this.
I was commercial fisherman for over 10 years a captain for over 7 ive known the sea man&boy alike this brings a tear to my eye many memories and feelings I'd thought id never feel again rushing back
Back in 2001 the San Francisco Maritime National Park Association observed the 150th anniversary of the publication of "Moby Dick." Among the many activities were readings of various chapters which included Patrick Stewart reading several chapters with Ahab's dialogue. It was memorable, to say the least!
Gracias ☺. Saludos :)
You know how monster movies make kids scared of the dark? That is what the Moby Dick did to me with the thought of being in the ocean when I was about 5. For a time after that, I was afraid of something getting me in the pool. My older brothers had all sorts of fun with that.
Ahab are my joint favourite Funeral Doom band (alongside Shape of Despair), but The Call of the Wretched Sea is the album that sits at the top of the pile. It is a truly crushing album, the epitome of Funeral Doom for me. The Hunt is a highlight in an album full of highlights.
THE HUNT [Music by Droste, Lyrics by C. Hoffarth] Flat and silent the ocean lies Pequod's captured in a lull No gentle breeze blows in the sails Heated by a salty carpet from above The crew's emaciated, survival tough Giant billows bear a mighty whiteness Screams from the lookout: Whale ahead! I want this whale, I want it dead! Hysteria on upper deck Rabid flames in Ahab's eyes Hustle and bustle, drag and pull Panic affects the whaler's moves
Thanks for posting this man. THis is so cool! I loved this movie when it first came out back in '98. I was in third grade at the time. I was a total nature freak and loved everythng about the ocean (especially whales). So, this story/movie is right up my ally. I plan on reading the novel sometime soon when I get the chance. Again, thanks a lot BlackQF. I appreciate it.
FIRE! The harpoon slashes the water's surface Diving into darkness - the prey escapes Swallowed by the sea Starboard lies calm Portside full of wrath Possessed by unhuman anger The heart brawly pumps the blood Through the marionette of rage Ahab's visage runs red I want this whale, I want it dead
I really wanted to enjoy this movie, as I love Moby-Dick, but I think that the inconsistency of the effects -- from rubber whale to CGI -- does not work as well as the 1956 version, which is certainly more raw, but more effective.
To think this legendary beast also reached an insane size of 90 feet long is just terrifying.. you would’ve needed way more then just men in boats with harpoons and spears to kill the terror of the deep.
I have never met such a accurately conveying mood in music. you can literally feel the effort of the whalers and the pain and rage of the kitten. it's not worth talking about the feeling of the water column on yourself and the absorbing darkness of the deep sea. I support and worry about koshalot definitely. Fuck humans, nature more important
Especially with Patrick Stewart in the lead role. And how you can connect his performance here to how he performed in the Ahab scene with First Contact.
I wonder what happens if they used cannons and Guns against Moby Dick, because I just thought the crew using different kinds of Guns against Moby Dick.
The whale would most likely dive and get away if you could even hit it in the first place which is a big if. Most cannons of this age couldn't fire at an angle low enough to hit it yet alone easily hit a target moving as fast as a whale and the shots would disintegrate as soon as they hit the water so you can't hit the whale under the water with shot. Harpoons were used because you could rope them to one or several boats to keep the whale from diving. After the whale would eventually become exhausted it would be further harpooned/stabbed to death and the ship would come and rig it up to be harvested.
@pillsburydoughboy47 That's not even close. White Sperm whales are simply said to be more aggressive than normal-colored sperm whales because white sperm whales stand out and can be easily seen by predators, and therefore have to be more aggressive to survive. However, Melville was psychic. Not long after he wrote the novel, a sperm whale attacked and sunk a boat near the same area as in the book. The book is mostly about revenge and its consequences
I just finished reading the book 2 hours ago, i will read it agin, but now in english, some parts i don't remember, like fedallah's death wasn't very clear, not a very good edition the one i read, still i liked the book quite a lot.
"Talk not to me of blasphemy, man; I'd strike the sun if it insulted me."

The special effects were amazing for the time.
Yeah, all the way back in the ancient days of 1998.
Gregory Peck is the best Ahab.

Love Patrick Stewart, but I feel like this 10 minute cut of the finale is the ideal way to enjoy this Moby Dick. 3 Hours is a long time.
Me encanta el tema con el vídeo incorporado. Realmente está muy bien hecho

thalassophobia, I'm a victim of these kinds of movies too
I dont want to watch the movie but i love the music :)
Professor X, Buffalo Bill, Immortan Joe and Eliot from E.T. VS Moby Dick
@ 3:50 when he says "WHALE AHEAD" That is the most epic part in the history of music! It gives me chills man
Ahab are my joint favourite Funeral Doom band (alongside Shape of Despair), but The Call of the Wretched Sea is the album that sits at the top of the pile.

Holy crap Immortan Joe's in this
UNO DEI FILM PIÙ BELLI CHE HO VISTO ❤
THE HUNT
[Music by Droste, Lyrics by C. Hoffarth]

Heated by a salty carpet from above

Giant billows bear a mighty whiteness

FIRE!
The harpoon slashes the water's surface
Diving into darkness - the prey escapes
Swallowed by the sea
Starboard lies calm
Portside full of wrath
Possessed by unhuman anger
The heart brawly pumps the blood
Through the marionette of rage
Ahab's visage runs red
I want this whale, I want it dead
great song, great video and can't wait to see Ahab play live on Nov. the 28th!!!!!!!!!
it is funeral doom, one of the best in funeral doom to be infact
Wait! Is that Picard!? Did he get his rank downgraded or why is he whalehunting instead of fighting Klingons now!?
It's actually a cut scene from the holodeck.
This isn't how Ahab ends. The Parsee is who appears entangled in the lines on the whale!
Would be amazing if Ahab made a PV for this song, like a miniature movie...
This is epic by the way.
Amazing song!!!! Great Band!!! Great Movie!!!
Great Video! Cheers!
Damned great video!
Buen video
When the harpooned whale drags the boats along at high speed it's called a "Nantucket Sleighride".
good job!!! fits perfect!
Ace, epic.... a real mastodont of a track....
what Kraken would make if they would learn to play guitar... big kudos ao AHB!
\m/

Epic movie, epic song. This is fantastic!
I should say, beautifully done video, though! Really nice.
FANTASTIC song
holy shit, those last five minutes were really intense
sane in every way, except for ONE, all consuming singular obsession, that now defines me. is this how things will end for me?
Tis video is so fucking cool its unbelievable.
Yep, he was Ahab in the 3 ep TV series of Moby Dick
Ohh this is SO GOOD!!
To think this legendary beast also reached an insane size of 90 feet long is just terrifying.. you would’ve needed way more then just men in boats with harpoons and spears to kill the terror of the deep.
Great Ahab nautik funeral doom metal !
best track of the album imo
love the "whale ahead!!" yell
I'd always thought it was “Whaler!” Thanks!
geniale kombination aus film und lied!
5/5
Split your lungs with blood and thunder! When you see the white whale!
-_-
Raise your backs and crack your oars men if you wish to prevail.
"...if his chest had been a cannon, he'd have fired his heart upon it."
okay, this is creepy, so there's only one thing to do....ADD IT TO MY HALLOWEEN PLAYLIST!!! THIS IS PERFECT!!!!!
Awesome!
I'm reading the book. Seems the movies always attract with special effects, but crop the story too much.
A fin erupts from the abyss
Proudly undulates the flesh
Reaches bright horizons Inviolable, manorial
An arrow loosens
... and spirit's away.
Hot damn, this musikk is so good it gave me a shivering spine
Grande canção!
boom boom boom, let me hear you say " whale"....
Really, REALLY pisses me off that they don't have the scene with Tashtego and the Seahawk in the movie.
EXCELLENT
i really liked this movie
Why cut it out at the end bruh
Blast beats are overrated
Don't need 'em- im good with these punishingly slow and groovy rhythms
WHALE AHEAD!
is that Patrick Stewart with hair as Ahab??
I just talked to the whale in this clip, he gives a thumbs up!
Excellent
Damn, not available anymore
Incredible!!

Read the description silly, it's "The Hunt" by Ahab.
I wished every hunted creature would teach the hunters this way .... tumbs up! *****
Thumb up, If hate that TIWC comment.
evil, doomy, hell yeah!!!
y el capitán se hunde con el barco
metáfora de esta película: la venganza es inútil ante un animal
Captain Ahab must be Picard's distant ancestor and Ishamel is Elliot's Ancestor who survived against Moby Dick.
1:02 fucking epic
Thats Dickey Moe 😁😁
Why is this movie so unknown?
Especially with Patrick Stewart in the lead role. And how you can connect his performance here to how he performed in the Ahab scene with First Contact.
... to the last I grapple with thee; from hell's heart I stab at thee; for hate's sake I spit my last breath at thee.
WHALE AHEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Senorize Yes, wrong band, still amazing, but this is AHAB.

I'm frothing at the mouth imagining it
Sorry :P I was quicker off the draw I guess...
If you can find another great quote from teh novel, post it
use the OLD movie
"Harpoons set to kill! ENGAGE!!"
I wonder what happens if they used cannons and Guns against Moby Dick, because I just thought the crew using different kinds of Guns against Moby Dick.

Creepy when that thing first comes out of the water
...WHAAAAALE!

does anyone knows as evil Funeral Doom bands as Ahab?
(sry for my english -.-)
@StinkiwinkiPoo The other guy is wrong. This is NAUTICAL DOOM!!! Promise.
in the old movie Moby used to kill with his jaw, and in this one he dones with the tail... Less scarying
The tail is closer to the book
161 years Moby Dick!
So, I know it shouldn't matter, but I cant understand them >_> I really want to, but...
Do not fuck with the sea captain Ahab!
2 people are bitter they have been made to swap the deck and eat barnacles for breakfast for their mutiny!
Video is hilarious.
I just finished reading the book 2 hours ago, i will read it agin, but now in english, some parts i don't remember, like fedallah's death wasn't very clear, not a very good edition the one i read, still i liked the book quite a lot.
captain Picard (the early generation) ! ENGAGE x)
The horror of open sea
whalecore
I am aware of that.
