I am the founder of 2 startups. Employed almost 37 people in both of my companies. Bootstrapped. I use a Poco phone worth 7K purchased in BBD 2020. Half of my employees have iPhones purchased on EMI on the basis of salary that I pay them. It's such a prestige for these guys about iPhone. I've never used one.

I am 26 , living on rent away from home each month I send my parents 20k, have a phone worth 13k which I bought 2 years back, I don't have any emi or loan in my name. Manage my expenses on my own . I take public transportation to commute, have 4 meals a day healthy one goes to gym 5 times a week to gym. Own a lenovo laptop worth 80k which I bought in 2017. Its still works seamless, have been planning to buy a scooty to ease my commute for last 3 month but dropping the idea as it will eat a chunk of my savings. Currently I have around 4lac of saving. And portfolio of 80k. I am happy with my lifestyle. My manor expenses are rent & food.
One of the primary reasons for the TATA Nano's failure in India was that consumers often prioritized status over practicality. I recall a specific individual in my area who purchased a Nano; unfortunately, he faced ridicule from others simply because he chose a "cheap car." This reflects how societal perceptions can heavily influence consumer behavior and preferences.
In class 11 economics, we have a concept known as goods of ostentation basically meaning status symbol goods that doesn't follow law of demand. I think the exclusivity of Iphone is also getting affected due to this phenomenal because the brand won't be a "brand" Symbol anymore
@@You_make_me_stay143 enough people buy iphone and when people see their street sweeper or vegetable seller with iphone , apple status symbol will automatically start reducing and people will find a new item to connect to their social status , overcharging companies like apple seems strong from outside but these companies start their decline the moment they start relying on their brand name rather than the innovation and product overall value and quality , history is witness to many such luxury companies they have always been replaced after a while.
Thank you so much brother for raising this madness . India is highest consumer of iphone wasting $10 billion USD per year and it is moving towards highly capitalist society and making gap even more wide inequality by these type of mentalities...
Last year... When I had a salary of just 43k/month.... I also made a expensive purchase.... 1L+ gaming laptop with 9 months emi. I have 25% of my salary every month for this....but till date it is the best purchase I have made.... The reason being is I didn't play a single game on that laptop, but did some advanced coding in niche skills like compilers for high performance computing.... The effect was my current per month salary is equivalent to what I bought my laptop for... Most importantly I bought S23 ultra recently paying fully in cash... I am proud of what I did.

I'm a 31 years old married guy with a kid. I've been working part time since the age of 16 and I've trained myself to rely on me and myself only. Mobile phones craze had just started at that time but I never requested my mom for it as she was a widower even though our financial status wasn't bad at all. I worked on summer vacations and bought phones as I was crazy about phones in my teenage. I have never bought a phone, car or any important accessories from anyone else's money unless someone gifts it to me which has happened only once as I save money, spend it on things that aren't pocket heavy but still work fine, I don't go for brands, instead I go for value and rarely get disappointed. I sleep peacefully as I know whatever happens, I have backup and Allah has blessed me with everything I need.

I bought a Samsung S22 Ultra phone when it was released. Everyone at my work asked me why I didn't get an iPhone. I told them it is much better than the iPhone. iPhones are only for status, while Android is for flexibility and customization. I absolutely love this phone. Nowadays, many people have complimented my phone, saying, "Your phone is really cool." I am so happy with it.
The people he's talking about in video are mainly from tier 2 and 3 cities. For them it's a big deal to have an iphone. I got S23 last year and my colleagues were actually liking it's appearance.
Exactly 😂 That's the exact thing I wrote in my notes while I was browsing for iPads and then it brought me back to reality. Currently there is an ipad for 19k, 30k, 50k and so on. I'm damn sure I cannot even make full use of the 19k one (which there is already one at home), so what's the point? I already have all I need. Only if the current one was insufficient for me in some way for my work then spending extra is justified. Getting more expensive, flagship gadgets, just to get better specs is stupid af 😂
Exactly never buy something that you don’t NEED, especially electronic equipments. That’s why i still use a 12 year old laptop. It works fine and does everything i need it to do.

Gotta thank my Family to give me this kind of Lifestyle where our thinking starts from the point where the Thinking and ambition of over 95% of Indian Population Ends....
Never asked anything from my parents expensive, bought my dreams stuff and invested after I started earning and also gave the money to my parents. Using 10k worth of phone. And im proud of it.
One of my close friends recently bought an iPhone 16 Plus on EMI-not because he needed it or had the money, but to fit in with his group of 'friends' who all have iPhones and teased him for not having one. Now, he regrets the purchase because many of the features he used on Android aren’t available on the iPhone. To make things worse, he's now financially struggling, almost bankrupt, and searching for a room that's around three times cheaper than where he used to live. It's a harsh reminder of how show-off culture and peer pressure can lead to poor decisions that hurt us in the long run.

iPhones have been portrayed as a method to get social approval, and it has been so deeply rooted as a symbol of social status, and this is only increasing.

I am using iphones since 10 years currently iphone 15. I buy iphone because of its ease, fast response and touch screen. I use iphone like any other phone and i am surprised iphone creates this much social impact on people’s life as shown in this video. P.S. I can afford any iphone without emi. I do not switch iphone every year. After iphone 6, i bought iphone 11 and After iphone 11, i bought iphone 15.
I don't know why but listening to their reasons for buying an iPhone makes me feel so weirdly disconnected from the current generation. It's even sadder to look at the underprivileged people spending their hard-earned money to buy something which becomes irrelevant every other year...
Sir, I don't know about your age or generation, but as a 19 y/o raised up in a tier 3 Indian city, I also feel the same. I have heard parents sell their lands to buy their son an iphone.

Few years ago when i was a student of intermediate, i literally blamed my parents for not giving me those expensive stuffs which i used to see in my surroundings for example a iphone, or apple watch, jordan snekers etc. But as time goes forward and facing a lot of things, now in 2024 when my college is over and i currently pursuing higher studies and give support to family business, i don't have any of those fancy expensive items, and i don't want as well. And i thanking to GOD to give me such parents who gave me that reality check at very early age so i can be a good person in future. I'm proud to my mom and dad 🙏❣

I do agree exactly And today's Genz are more attracted to the secondary and materialistic things. Mimic behaviour/ desire. Models. - it's like a gravity. EMI - Discount - loan. Instant gratification - EMI 70% phones - emi.

Thanks mohak for bringing up this topic. being a genz I can confirm to you that there is lot of social pressure, to have good or so called "aesthetic" photos, stories, posts on SM. I really appreciate you touching on this topic mohak, but actually what we need is solution, please do make videos about how to tackle it, because tbh it's unhealthy and very tiring. wanting to spend on yourself is ok but being that self aware that you can distinguish between your actual desires and desires that the society has conditioned you with. We need a detailed video on this mohak, I want to help myself but idk where to get that help.
I am first generation Gen-Z, the only social media apps I use are WhatsApp and UA-cam. I personally don't like any other social media apps as they are full of crap. Even if someone suggests and installs any other social media app in my phone, I find it to be unnecessarily occupying my phone's storage, so I immediately delete it. I don't even bother taking selfies although I occasionally take photos through rare cameras if I find that something looks beautiful for example a beautiful place / scenery. And I am not interested in apple products as it's being run by a graduate from business school who has little to no knowledge about technology due to which apple has almost stopped innovating (as it's evident with each iphone launch every year) although I respect Steve Jobs as he was a visionary.
That line 💯- "iPhone se Photo lene kee baad ya to TUM ache lagoage yaa toh MEMORIES achi lagegi " To Create beautiful Memories, zarurate hai toh Feelings ki, camera toh cameraman ke paas bhi hota hai ❤ :)
I did 2 things - 1. Compare the city travel apps like rapido, Ola, etc 2. Compare the prices of food delivery apps With an Android phone The results were astonishing 😮😮 Ios apps consume more memory than Android apps of the same name Food delivery items were costlier on ios than on Android Cab rates were about ₹50-₹70 more on ios than on an Android In a long term, cost of ownership of an iPhone is more than that of an Android

Most of Iphone users don't even use most of its utility or its features. Iphone have depth sensing in cam, which can used to create 3D models , can also used for VR applications with most accuracte facial tracking. but people use it as some status... I use pixel but want iphone for my work...

Really liked this video. I have had people around me with iphones and while i understand some can really like it ,i understood that its also a status symbol. For me, i refused to bow down to this narrative and only buy an iphone if i truly desired it. After year's now when i wanted to invest in a premium phone i actually went for s24. I do not mind people spending for their desires, but i feel that they should spend only if they themselves have that money. Most of us millenials got lucky in that dept as our parents ensured we understood this concept.
This video makes me feel so good about myself compared to the rest of the country's youth. I bought an iphone 2 years ago for 90k because of 3 main reasons: the ecosystem integration with my existing apple devices, the ease of use for someone not into customising their OS and using a lot of apps, and the decent 3-camera setup for its price. But the most important condition was that I COULD AFFORD IT as it was less than my 1 month salary (not bragging), hence I did not give a second thought when I finally decided to buy one after research. I don't understand this craze with showing off in my generation of Indians, this is pulling us back big time as a society too
There nothing to brag my friend. Still iphones cannot be justified for average Indians even earning 2 lakhs per month. In US average salary is 5000 USD and iphones cost around 1/5th of the income. In India guys earning 2 lakhs per month considered to be upper middle class have to pay half their salary
@@justacalmandreasonablepers6085 it depends though, US cost of living is high on everything vs India. India petrol and gadgets are more expensive but 1 lack salary is much better then $5k a month in US. $5K in a month is lower middle class in US.
@@WaveRider1989 That's true, but then you see the absurdity of spending so much on a gadget compared to your needs (which are so much cheaper in comparison). My logic about expensive purchases is this: If the purchase helps me increase my productivity and earn more money proportionally, then it's worth it. No matter the actual cost. Basically a lesson on opportunity costs. If a 2 lac purchase will help me earn 4 lacs, then it's worth it. Otherwise not. Expensive purchases that put only strain on your wallet, with no return, are not worth it. Hence it is highly subjective to what you can do with it.

I started working on digital art and design on my old android phone worth 6K INR. Then i saved money to get a new mobile phone worth 10K that was also an android. After working and learning a lot of skills for digital marketing, design and illustrations for 4 years i finally bought my IPhone 13 and started doing shoots with it as well. So my cost of iPhone also got easily recovered within few months just by doing iphone shoot for brands (apart from my other projects). And it’s an asset to my professional life. As a freelancer it has proved to be the best investment. But then i see students around demanding iPhone from their parents just for the sake of being cool. I couldn’t even imagine that when i was a kid. Although I’m 2001 born.
Great video. I myself have been using Apple products for quite some years, because of 2 reasons - I can afford it and second is that I find it better to use for longer years from both functionality and quality vise. But the points raised in this video are absolutely true. People, and especially Gen Z, are obsessed with show offs and social status. It is becoming increasingly difficult to make them understand this. Even if as a parent you can do it, others wont be able to and hence there will always be larger group with 'social status' as the most important thing in life. Consequently, even your child will fall to this fearing being outcast. Not sure how this will shape up in future. This is nothing but a slow bomb towards mental illness and depression.
Finally, somebody spoke. Thank you Mohak for bringing the light. Some social media platforms are worse than drugs. Day by day they are becoming more and more manipulative and influencing the behaviour and thoughts of the people. And the worst part about this is, that "People even don't know they are in Rattrap."

Lovely topic n well covered! Something I realized how big a statement it is to just hold an iPhone during my last visit to India, and it’s not just iPhones. Middle class kids in USA work in McDonalds and also eat in McDonalds but in India kids want to eat in McDonalds but not work there - they feel that’s a low level job. Gen-Z needs to learn a lot, they want to live like American kids but they don’t realize most American kids start working early n spend from their earnings but most Indian kids (there may be exceptions) want to have the same luxury (eat in McDonalds, have expensive phone n bikes) but at parent’s cost… I just pity the parents who struggle to fulfill these expensive wishes and for the kids lack of awareness n sense of responsibilities!

Freedom and Responsibility: By stating that everything is permitted, it implies that individuals have the freedom to act as they choose. However, this freedom comes with the responsibility to consider the consequences of one's actions. It emphasizes the importance of personal ethics and the impact of choices on the world. 3. Challenging Authority and Dogma: The phrase encourages questioning established norms, beliefs, and authority. It urges individuals to think critically and not blindly follow rules or doctrines imposed by others. In summary, "nothing is true, everything is permitted" encourages skepticism, personal freedom, and ethical responsibility, urging individuals to seek their own truth and act according to their moral compass.

There chances of validation from others will reduce
Because they are getting happiness from these things instead from others point of view
Here we can see our Education System fault

So many Students didn't find or have fun with there hobbies
In dire need of happiness they are choosing this way of happiness
But issue is it is Costly, Not Sustainable, Depend on others Validation, etc

I did 2 things -
1. Compare the city travel apps like rapido, Ola, etc
2. Compare the prices of food delivery apps
With an Android phone
The results were astonishing 😮😮
Ios apps consume more memory than Android apps of the same name
Food delivery items were costlier on ios than on Android
Cab rates were about ₹50-₹70 more on ios than on an Android
In a long term, cost of ownership of an iPhone is more than that of an Android

Really liked this video. I have had people around me with iphones and while i understand some can really like it ,i understood that its also a status symbol. For me, i refused to bow down to this narrative and only buy an iphone if i truly desired it. After year's now when i wanted to invest in a premium phone i actually went for s24.
I do not mind people spending for their desires, but i feel that they should spend only if they themselves have that money.

Bakwas, iss logic se toh zindagi kaise jeeyoge? Everything in balance
Galat, jo chiz tum aaram se afford kar sakte aka agar budget mein hain toh lo, iphone hamari budget ke andar than toh le liya
I don't understand this craze with showing off in my generation of Indians, this is pulling us back big time as a society too
Bas kar bhai. Lene ke baad validation le raha hai😂
My logic about expensive purchases is this:
If the purchase helps me increase my productivity and earn more money proportionally, then it's worth it.
@@justacalmandreasonablepers6085 Bhai ek monnth ki aadhi salary for 3-4 year use of a good phone like iPhone dikkat nhi hain

I will try other androids over time as I am earning to fulfil my hobbies I like collecting phones. I phones aren't bad but there are lots of people who can't afford yet buy them.

1. Reality and Perception: The phrase suggests that reality is subjective and that what people perceive as true is often influenced by their beliefs and perspectives. Therefore, nothing can be universally accepted as an absolute truth.
