Yeah, when you first have stuff like this explained to you it feels kinda like seeing through the Matrix. My first moment like that was in old Warhammer Fantasy in the early 2000s, when I first figured out screening and charge redirecting.
I recently did some self move blocking to get an easy charge into engagement with GSC neophytes but then touch more units and stop them going into reserves again at the end of my turn or using all their shooting. What was great too was it was on the UKTC large ruin where they had models on the upper floors for plunging fire. Because of vertical engagement and how high up they were one squad was trapped forever because they did not have the movement to get down and out of engagement with me under them. Could not complete a fall back so no legal moves left.
Very cool and a strong way of getting round Fight First. Means that we need to be careful about people doing this to us to get round the FBS’ Fight First.
Great video. I would have never thought to do this. Has definitely changed how I think about charges and fights going forward. Cannot wait to employ this in a game. Please keep this stuff coming. These are the videos I love, and also use.

As someone who doesn’t get to play a lot, could you guys share any tips on how to get through game at a good pace? we often take 3-4 hours to get to turns 3 or 4. I know I need to get more reps in to help with my knowledge of rules, but can you suggest anything else help up the pace?

Im liking this new series for tricks. I play causally with friends and my local GW store but its good to know some tricks and tips to give me just alil bit more edge. Is it possible to include in the video a section/page/paragraph where the rules you are using for the tips? Im sure it be helpful for me and other to point out if we are asked by our opponent. Thanks and look forward to more videos in the series.
Well, I did actually get to use this. Opposing Nid player had some barb gaunts that he kept tucked back behind pyschophage. 5 inch charge to the phage, 7 to the barbs. Got a 6, move blocked myself and managed to get 3 PM's into the barbs, including the biology professor
Aiden for the second example can you go over how the consolidation on the point works if the rhino was to die during that combat? Can the whole unit consolidate closer to the point or only model 3" away and the others can't move if more than 3" away? (Asuming there no infantry in enemy rhino) just trying to get more OC onto point Also the guys on the point, can they consolidate closer to the center of the point ? What about past the center?
I’ll answer for you. You can only consolidate any given model if it can get within 3 inches of the objective marker circle. You have to keep coherence too. That means in a big unit like the example, each model must be within 2 inches of two other models.
I have a question…since when you charge you have to base to base if possible, how does blocking once side of the rhino stop the others from basing on the sides etc PAST the first 3 blocking Plague marines? Since they have enough movement to base at the side of the Rhino? Sorry if it’s a dumb question I’m a noooob
I blocked them being able to base as the model has to physically fit within the movement i rolled going around the sides was over the the roll amount and the space i made between the marines that did base arent large enough to fit a plague marine meaning they arent able to reach base to base. Remember the models can only move upto the charge distance and i moved the closest models to block out the furthest ones.
Great vid , does selfmove block not break the intention of base to base rule? I.e models only not able to base because of your 'bad' placement. This is legal?
The models are moved one at a time and each one is checked individually. You can 100% block your own ability to reach base to base just as much as you can also make the decision to allow as many to reach base to base as possible

Correct it's a great way to get around it and we have even more ways to deal with fight first in a later episode

The situation with the captain can get around enemy fight first.
Indeed it can, we will be looking into other ways to beat fight first in the next episode but that is definetely one of them

So long as you are in combat with a single model in your unit then yes you are not eligible to be shot at (unless your a vehicle or monster)

Yes, your unit has made a charge move therefore will have fights first this phase
