    So many good analogies! I tell my clients all the time giving feedback instantly works both ways. It’s a whole lot different experience when the dog hears more ‘good dog’ than ‘ no’ and getting corrected all the time. Catch your dog doing something right even if it’s just laying quietly and patiently while you are watching the TV. ❤

    • @masada7987
      @masada7987 Рік тому

      I think a clicker is a great way to refine and mark a behavior. It gives a dog a unique sound or que to exact action they perform. Once they associate that sound with an action. That sound can then become a command. I think ultimately it's an emotionless communication device. That's why I like a dog whistle. Just my two cents

    Hey Stonnie, quick question. I want your opinion on this. I have a male black lab who is about 1.5 years of age. He is in need of a play friend and my girlfriend I live with her brother just had doberman puppies and we are considering one. Do these 2 casually get along? Do you recommend it? I want to make the right choice for my dog arlo so he can have fun with the other. I just to make the right choice before i get another furry friend to add to our household. Hoping to hear back from you thank you!

    As a relatively recent former Stone online client (for a field bred lab-class in 2020) and a longtime and current Doberman owner, I just want to say that I hope people can appreciate how effective Stonnie's methods are across breed and temperament type. Dobermans and labs are very different temperaments/personalities, generally speaking at least, and Stone's methods work across the board. We took the online class to train our field lab for duck hunting, and yet the methods were also extremely effective for the two dogs we've gotten in addition- a mastiff mutt and a doberman. I just wanted to chime in for people to see how effective the method is across the board. And also because I know that Stonnie rarely features Dobes, so I'm super glad to see another one there. :)

    • @gaillewis9586

      I agree, they couldn't be more different! Dobies are velcro dogs, she wants nothing more than to be right beside him! Over 3 generations we have had 9 Dobies, starting with one being dumped in my parents mountain community. We were immediately sold! We are looking for our second service dog, our last one died last year, she was 14.

    Stonnie how do I get my 10 month lab to stop jumping on people? He is very attentive and respectful most of the time but first contact with someone excites him so much all training goes out the window, and worst part is people *always* encourage jumping and reward jumping with petting and attention, and when I try to contain him to all four paws they say "it's ok" ... no it's not! lol

    One thing that really makes me shake my head is people seeking to own breeds of dog that just do not fit their lifestyle. This is why dogs misbehave, are undisciplined, and have behavioral issues. For example, Dobermans are a high energy breed. They are not meant to be kept indoors all the time bumming on the couch. They need exercise outside of the house. Running and being out where they can get rid of that energy. True, you can teach them how to manage that energy in the environment they live in. But, for their piece of mind, giving them the stimulation they need can work miracles.

    This begs the question, what happens when she returns to Philly? I’m in complete agreement with your philosophy and method but it’s the owners who really need training. My Kortholtz griffon is a prime example. The former owner sent it to “school “ and never changed his own behavior or the dog’s environment. I now have the pleasure of a well behaved and truly brilliant dog. Thanks for your great videos. PS , you have a very broad vocabulary!!!

A small yellow english female. and a American style black lab. I also had a Jack Russell Parson's terrier for 16 years....my favorite dog ever. He didnt really like other dogs much...he either wanted to fight them or hump them. I noticed your Jack kind of didnt know how to interact with the other bigger dogs and kept to herself.
