I don’t know I personally thought the whole crying scene was actually pretty funny. Especially when he’s in a therapy session and stops for a moment and having the therapist be like “mhm…mhm go on” and Patrick just randomly showing up on top of a mountain with SpongeBob just so that HE could cry too.
@@neonflashsparkotron5435 For sure. In fact, Good Neighbors for me is only the 5th worst of the season. Edit: 4th worst because now I think it's worse then Wigstruck.
You forgot to point out the fact that the episode was mean-spirited. Seriously, that scene where the French spatula leaves SpongeBob is one of the cruelest scenes of the show.
phanpy ken Yeah but that episode made it blatantly obvious they weren't trying to be serious with the moral. You could hear it in SB's voice inflections
Actually the expression it self is a good moral. (That the appearance of something doesn't give an indication of it's true nature.Or just because something is glittery doesn't mean it's made of gold) It was just executed poorly here.Besides, I think,'I guess crying really does solve all your problems' is way worse.
As a kid, this episode always felt like a surreal outlier of the series. I think it's because the "all that glitters is not gold" line and shot at the end stuck with me, because like you said, it was pretty offputting.
Honestly, if if I wrote this episode, I'd probably make it very different. So, my idea is that Mr. Krabs found a worthless thing that looks very similar to a valuable thing. However, dazed by his greed, he doesn't realize it's not that valuable thing, just a look-alike, and then it's basically funny schemes to try to sell and advertise it, all of which fail. I think it'd fit the title very well! I mean, who thinks of broken spatulas with the title "All That Glitters"?
camwoodstock That sounds better idea and I think the title, ‘All That Glitters’ kind of sounds more like a title for a Mr. Krabs centric episode rather than a SpongeBob centric episode. Because most of the time, the episodes often had puns or references to the character that the episode may have been focusing on. I think a better title for this episode could’ve been something like ‘Spatastrophe’ or something
This episode just kind of bewildered me when I first watched it. It's just to stupid for me to really be mad at but not really a "stupid fun" type episode for me to enjoy either.
The only thing I remember about this episode is that part where Spongebob pops up and says "All that glitters is not gold." Then I said to myself "So that's why they call it that," just like Peter in that cutaway gag from that Family Guy episode.
"Maybe someone will have a good defense in the comments." _MY TIME HAS COME._ Not gonna lie, this was a good rant (cue the "good rant" text appearing over the video), but some odd things came out of it. One of the main complaints with this episode is that SpongeBob is naked throughout a chunk of the episode. I can see that, but what about the *Good* episode Nature Pants, where he was naked throughout the entire thing! SpongeBob also cried a lot throughout the entire episode, which could have been annoying, but to me it was a lot easier on the ears than the crying scene from Karate Choppers. Plus, while the crying jokes lasted a while, I personally don't see much wrong with something going on a bit too long, as long as it's funny, which I thought the "crying in many different places" gag to be hilarious, especially with the way it brought Patrick into the episode. I thought the moral SpongeBob said was a good form of shock value, but that's probably just me. Then, there's the ending. This was my favorite part. SpongeBob, in slow motion, grabs his spatula and resumes work, which I thought was extremely sweet _and_ extremely funny at the same time. I can see those being annoying, but by that logic, Driven To Tears, Mermaidman & Barnacle Boy IV, Bubble Buddy, and Snowball Effect would all be stupid. To me it works, but I can see it not working in anyone's eyes. Well, as you can see, I just defended this episode. I like to live dangerously too.
Very good points! To me anyway, the nudity is just a small slightly irritating thing on top of an already irritating episode. It's weird to see characters off model for too long. I guess we just get so used to the way a character usually looks that it's odd to see it so different for so long. As far as Nature Pants, the nudity is still a little strange there, but it was also used in story to symbolize SB going native, In this episode him being naked is just the result of another overly long gag with no impact on anything. I agree, the crying in Karate Choppers should have been toned back, but there were some good sight gags to go with it, it felt justified because SB had lost something of great importance to not just him but also the audience, and otherwise that episode is great, As far as the ending, it has no emotional resonance with me, because the episode didn't do enough to make me actually care about spat or even the general plot. Also comedy is of course subjective :P
***** Interesting thoughts, especially the justifying of the crying scene. I dunno, I guess looking at All That Glitters in Season 4, it'd be a lot different if it were in any other season, really. Maybe that's a good idea for a Square Theory: "How Would SpongeBob Episodes be Different If Aired in Different Seasons?"
Mr. WinnerPerson It's not really that odd, I completely understand why people dislike the episode. It has many things that anyone could see as jarring.
Wow, the new intro looks great! I'm glad you're giving this episode a good tearing into. This was one of the episodes that drove me away from Spongebob for a long time.
This episode as the topic of infidelity and that everything that looks good isnt as good as you think. You can tell when spongebob says " it was a moment of weakness" like when someone cheats on their partner or " those patties arent gonna flip themselves you know" meaning his urge to satisfy his needs when his partner is not present. Its crazy how they alluded this in a kids show which has slowly turn to utter garbage from season 5 onward
at the risk of being attacked.. this was one of my favorite episodes, when I was younger. I like the gag of him crying a lot. it's funny! he cries a lot and it's silly. I thought all the gags were fun to watch and I liked the scene with Spongebob talking to us. it was funny how he was so calm and then just went back to crying.
If the fat orange customer didn't order a Monster Krabby Patty in the first place then SpongeBob's Spatula wouldn't have broke while trying to flip the big patty so its all his fault
Spongebob had two spatulas before this i think. the other one was the "hydrodynamic spatula with port and starboard attachments and a turbo-drive." he had in "Help Wanted"
Ha ha ha! I just find it to be HILARIOUS how your voice keeps getting more and more sped-up as you point out all the failed jokes in this episode between 2:40 and 3:38!

Well, if Spongebob's spatula is sentient, I guess that explains the scene from The Curse of Bikini Bottom, where Spongebob breaks his spatula in half, and it turns into a ghost spatula.
This episode would have worked so much better if Spongebob bought Le Spatula out of his own volition, therefore making it less of a “terrible things constantly happen to Spongebob” episode. Maybe he sees an ad for Le Spatula and buys it to replace his old spatula, only to find out that the hundreds of fancy functions actively make it harder to do his job. Then maybe he could go on some quest to retrieve his old spatula after throwing it out or have some kind of silly escapades along the way.
So, this is the episode that made you notice SpongeBob was decaying in quality? Me too! I agree with what your review video's description says. In fact, this episode just upset me when I was 2 or 3! Now I am 14 years old, and I still find it too absurd! It's even worse than My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic's "Ponyville Confidential" and The Amazing World of Gumball's "The Hero"!
The only thing that made me want to watch this episode was the fact that "Wishing you Well"' is its sister episode. But, even then, I have a hard time sitting through the episode.
Another problem with the episode: when Spongebob is talking to a spatula that he thinks is Spat but isn't...at the hospital... Well, first off, SB mistook another spatula for Spat... Second, when it is lafer revealed that "this isn't your spatula" (wait, someone else also put their spatula in tgr hospital?), it's played like a twist. But we can clearly see it earlier that the spatula isn't Spat

I REALLY hate this episode a long side with little yellow book!!!! This is my worst Spongebob episode ever, the biggest problem is Spongebob's meltdown over Spat and him saying "all that glitters is not gold." For this, it is an ULTIMATE SCUMBOB EPISODE at 1:25 played in 0.25x speed
Cheeyev DITTO! Looks like both movies are turning points in the show. First movie lead to a BAD turning point, and now this 2nd (great) movie hopefully leads to a good one.
actually no the movie was after season 3 spongebob definitely CHANGED in season 4 and the show never got bad until season 6 so your statement is a little invalid
Maybe if the episode had spongebob hate the new spatula but he begins to love it and finds out that it's better then his old and have spongebob regret leaving the old one and they could have don't something wacky like have the new one become chaotic and the old one saves him and it'll teach the kids that sometimes new isn't always better. Idk if that would have work but I think it would make a better episode. Good Job PieGuy XD
With SpongeBob being naked for the rest of the episode, it’s surprising he didn’t get arrested or fined for public nudity. Do you think he did after the episode?
PieGuy, there are a few things I gotta say: 1. Impressive opening to Spongey Bits 2. You hate All That Glitters? ME TOO!!!! I hate that episode, too. It's not funny, its taken way too literal, and there's so much drama to the point where it becomes too pretentious, forced, not entertaining, not pleasent to watch and not funny. It's so full of too much drama.
The crying was annoying, the part where SpongeBob pops up and delivers the moral was weird, and the jokes weren't funny. I definitely see why this is Scumbob and it's also one of my least favorites of the season.
"Just because Le Spatula was shiny doesn't mean he's of quality." That's actually a pretty good moral. If only it was done correctly.
TheRich4270 Looked pretty straightforward to me.
That's a good point
I don’t know I personally thought the whole crying scene was actually pretty funny. Especially when he’s in a therapy session and stops for a moment and having the therapist be like “mhm…mhm go on” and Patrick just randomly showing up on top of a mountain with SpongeBob just so that HE could cry too.
List of over long jokes
1. Monster krabby patty
2. Wahhh ha!
3. Montage of spat
4. Now no
5. Spongebob crying all the way to the krusty krabs
My favorite part is the title card
Evil Spatula is a great episode
This one well SCUMBOB
My favorite part is where sponegbob breaks his arms in the end.
There's only 1 Krusty Krab boi.

actually no the movie was after season 3 spongebob definitely CHANGED in season 4 and the show never got bad until season 6 so your statement is a little invalid
wow alvin, simon, theodore, chip and dale all come in, nice!
My video quality got so F'ed up by the intro oh my god
I wasn't paying attention at around 3:19 and suddenly i was having flashbacks to Gaijin Goombah
Kinda like how Moody’s point on the Amanda show was like a soap opera
With SpongeBob being naked for the rest of the episode, it’s surprising he didn’t get arrested or fined for public nudity. Do you think he did after the episode?
"MONSTER KRABBY PATTY?!?!?!?!"
I love it when you make your voice sound like Fred
The doctor being fake only lasted 10 seconds, so it's overly long?
Hey PieGuyRulz! I uploaded my rant on All That Glitters
PieGuy, there are a few things I gotta say:
1. Impressive opening to Spongey Bits
3:37 you got your real voice again
3:07-3:36 PieGuy went from Fred to a chipmunk XD
Is a perfect example on when SpongeBob episodes become less and less funny compared to the first three seasons and seasons 9B-12
Heh. That was pretty good. I've been waiting for this! Was randomly refreshing and found it. XD
I honestly thought this was some sort of bootleg episode the first time i saw it
Pieguyrulz says "Maybe someone'll have some good defense in the comments". Well, I do think that the music is nice & touching.
The first really bad episode I think I saw and hated is "Whale of a Birthday" and "Stuck in the Wingler".
karatekidaustin The first bad episode I saw was The Splinter, though I didn't watch TV much at the time.
Joshua Kelly the first bad episode i saw was The Googly Artiste and i really hated it
Sean Sampson I hated that episode too, but I saw The Splinter before that.
karatekidaustin I like the Whale one, but "Stuck in the Ringer" is another story...
Whale of a Birthday isn't THAT bad...
Good video!! I also find your chipmunk voice in this funny! :)
Do a Pest of The West Rant
Watch "Evil Spatula" a LOT better version of this bad episode.
